Point is, if they really wanted to, they could make things really hard for us in future versions. It would be hacked eventually, but that's not the issue.

Here's an interview with the guy from PearC. Sorry, it's only Google translated. Here's the original German version.

c't 6/2009 has an article about PearC Starter and states all technical details about the system.

They say that boot123 is being used and an unaltered Retail Leopard DVD is put in the box with the PC. And guess what: iLife is missing.

So this is bad value for money, but as in a thread here in the forum, PearC makers seam to be using the EFI-partition to store some needed kexts...

I am just curious how they make it possible to boot from HDD - with my system this does not work.

"I am just curious how they make it possible to boot from HDD - with my system this does not work."

Well, that`s one advantage of those computers - you dont have to worry about those things anymore - it have to work since the company takes responsibility for it. Still i wonder how it works, especially about the updates if they can guarantee that it`ll work. Another thing that i`m curious of - will Apple introduce some changes in Leopard`s new version to block those computers - along with osx86 machines ? I think they could do that...we can "break" it and get it working again ( i mean the community ), but what about ppl who will have those computers ?

Well I have got the hang of osx86 - kind of, booting from hdd now works for me.

Back on topic:
At PearC they don't guarantee you that all coming updates from Apple (including coming version of OS X) will work on their systems. They just say, that until now no update has made a problem for their users.

I guess we just need to wait some more to see if Apple will really break OSX86 installations - they cannot change existing hardware but might include something, that stops us from using it on standard PCs...

Let's wait for Snow Leopard and then we'll know for sure. I can't see, why it should not boot via boot123 like with Leopard.
