on my dell laptop, i get an ioata.kext kernel panic, which iive bypassed by removing appleintelpiixata.kext..

but this results in having no dvd drive.

+1...same problem, and I haven't solved it till now :'(

@elfdood
I've changed from "ahci" to "compatible, but in -64x mode I've a KP "still waiting for root device".
Please, much needed for my laptop optical drive in 64-bit mode
on an ICH8.

I'm not using any ata device on my computer. Instead, I use Jmicron, but only to boot Windows 7 hard drives. I don't need to access to them from osx. Do I need to use Jmicron.kext or appleintelpiixata.kext on my snow -maybe for more stability?

Cheers!

I'm also getting a kernel panic because of AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext.

I put netkas's modified one into /Extra/Extensions but the same thing happens at the same spot. How do I know if any of my kext files in /E/E are even working?

In -64x mode we've the same problem, but in -x32 mode works fine.

I out your kext into /E/E and I get the same old kernel panic when booting with -32x. If that even a kernel flag? I still see "64 bit mode enabled" in verbose mode...

@BeSweeet... Put ioata.kext in S/L/E, then repair permission.

Oops, I should have updated this.

I got rid of IOATAFamily.kext in /S/L/E and put your in /E/E, rebooted, and it worked. That was from my external USB HDD.

I'm currently installing it on my internal laptop's HDD.

Hi guys!
Now ATA drives (cd/dvd roms etc.) working! but only in 32b mode :)

For INTEL ICH (10)/9/8/7

1. Download the kext
2. Install with KEXT HELPER

What about the people who still can't boot? And how do I boot in 32bit mode?

Your system is almost exactly like mine. Does your X3100 work OOTB?

Actually, we do have the same exact stuff, but I have 4GB RAM. Are you on a Gateway laptop?

yes, my X3100 work with vanilla drivers (yet supports only 32bit). Need use the custom-patched dsdt.aml. Best way to get patched dsdt is DSDT Patcher GUI by PCWiz.
