If your getting that error from the DVD then you may need to try burning another copy.

mmmm are you sure that you set the partition where do you wanna install leopard as active?
in vista menu start->cmd enter->diskpart->select disk X(x is the number of your disk)-> list partiton->select partition Y(Y is the number of the partition where do you wanna install leopard)->active->exit
then put the leopard dvd inside the pc and tell if works :)
thats how i can help you men

ive tried that...
but i think it might be my disk / disks thats the problem...
tried with a 10.5.1 dvd, and got an HFS error then the same message came up and it got stuck...

my system:
HP PavillionDV9000ea
AMD Turion 64 x2
Nvidia Nforce Chipset with Serial ATA Controllers
2 x 80gb ST98823A S SCSI Disc device on Unknown SCSI/RAID HOST CONTROLLER

this is getting soooo frustrating...
downloading the tubgrl 10.4.9 to try that one out too, even though i dont think it will work :(
so...
what can i do...??

An option you could try, instead of burning the ISO to another DVD, partition your disk into 2 with one of the partitions being about 8gigs. Burn the ISO to the partition instead of a disk. Try booting from the partition. You will need something to use such as ubuntu to format the HFS+ partitions. But they are easy to obtain and use, and it may be worth a shot.
