Just another one: You might like to update your bootloader and to add an EFI String for you graphiccard, what should gonna work as it's just a different brand for the 9800GTX+ as far as I know. :) This should give you fully working graphic acceleration (QE, etc) what's definetly better than just having a higher resolution.

Do you mind giving me instructions on how to do that?

Sure I can. :)
I don't know which bootloader you're running but even if you've selected PC_Efi v8 on Setup, I would recommend to update it to at least v9 before you continue - if you're running the Darwin Bootloader this would be essential.
Then create a back-up of your /Library/Prefernces/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.boot.plist
Get the latest OSx86 Tools, open them and choose "Add EFI String / Boot Flag" Option, click "GFX Strings" - if you have 512MB you can try if the predifined 9800GTX one will work for you, otherwise select "Custom GeForce", first field is freeform, second your VRAM, the last your output configuration. Next select "Import String to Boot Editor" and "Apply changes to com.apple.boot.plist"
(If it doesn't take effect immediataley you might have to copy your boot.plist to /Extra folder first.)

Thanks. I am running Darwin.

Also, can you give me instructions on how to update my version to 10.5.8? I have iDeneb combo update and I am not sure if it will work properly as I've heard it is not ideal to update from .4 to .8 directly. Your thoughts on this?

- forget about the part of my text I removed from here, I missed something out, so it didn't match onto your configuration -

Get the latest AMD Patcher by Zephyroth, download every Update separatly and patch it with that tool. The more Back-up your complete Extensions before you continue. Out of my own experience I can tell you, that updating a fully patched system is very painfull procedure, it's a big profit if you have some Unix skills.

For the Graphiccard you can try this: http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=370 instead of using EFI Strinsg. :)

Thank you very much. I won't be able to try these as I am working for the next few days. I will let you know the result.

Updated to 10.5.5 using Zephyroth's AMD patcher and it is running good. I have options now for video resolution. Thank you very much for the tip.

Glad everything is fine for you so far.
Remind to do some back-ups from time to time to prevent you from the vexation of loosing your current status. ;)

Just the resolutions? Or is Quartz Extreme enabled also? You can check this by opening Systemprofiler and go to "Graphics/Displays" section. If QE is not listed as supported, I can give you futher instructions onto this:

You still need to put your device ID in NVDAResman.kext and NVDANVX0hal.kext (depending on the GPU generation).
Reboot.
What will enable it. :)

punk_zappa 09-15-2009 07:11 PM

It says QE is supported.
