updated with ASU
installed new modbin kernel + system.kext Yes - success! Thanks again to Zephyroth's great ASU |
Does Zeph's planning to release a dvd with 10.5.4 and asu ?
|
Great job for Zeph's ASU 0.5 app...
Upgraded without any kind of problem to 10.5.4 and then upgraded kernel to 9.4.0 modbin's one. Thanks Zephyrot. |

@iero - i`m not Zephyroth but i don`t think so. almost everyone can update 10.5.2 with ASU and there`s nothing much to add to the installer at the moment so it seems pointless. of course i can be wrong, and would gladly see new relase.
|
I don't see a point of a new dvd release
everyone can one way or another update to the new system the only time i think we will see a new dvd is 10.6(aka SNOW LEOPARD) but than again maybe is ASU will work with that |
That's not the main point of making a new release, zephyroth aims to make a perfect AMD Install DVD and i quote him

download and install ok here. But, my QE CI was gone. After doing some research, it did work with NVInstaller...
6600gt here.... |
Hi all,
I've got one HDD and two partitions, OSX86_1 and OSX86_2. OSX86_1 is the main system and OSX86_2 is the test system. I upgraded OSX86_2 from 10.5.3 to 10.5.4 with Zeph's A.S.U. and it worked well, I've made a try for modbin kernel 9.4.0 and got kernel panic on OSX86_2. I did boot on OSX86_1 and erased OSX86_2 partition. I started up again but it didn't boot, I've used Kaliway DVD to check OSX86_1 partition and everything is ok, I've tried to select the Partition for booting but it shows me only Network... so my question is: How, with terminal included in Kaliway DVD, can I fix the startup disk information ? Thanks a lot, Peloche, |
Upgrade to 10.5.4 and 9.4.0 kernel went smoothly here. :)
(AMD 4200+ X2 using Leo4allv3) |
I made also the update to my system (amd 6000) but i can see kernel version 9.2.0,how can i get 9.4.0?
|
I updated the modbin kernel to 9.4.0 and the system kext....
I just came across the extracted AMD 10.5.4 package.... If I Install this with the new kernel already in place will this cause an issue.....???? |
@Peloche,
maybe you shouldn't erase your partition. You can always make backup of actual kernel and system.kext so if kernel panic occurs when you install new kernel you can always restore it. With erasing it you probably erased boot as well so follow this link, boot from dvd, fire up terminal and rewrite mbr and make your OSX86_1 partition active again. <a href="http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=22844">http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=22844</a> cheers! @br492 There is a topic on the main "discussions" page called new modbin kernel for 10.5.4. Thats kernel 9.4.0. <a href="http://leo4all.uni.cc/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=269">Kernel 9.4.0</a> @infinitek No, your kernel will remain intact, thanks to zephyrot's ASU.. I personally used ASU first to update to 10.5.4 and then manually installed new 9.4.0 kernel from modbin. |
Hi milanca,
Thanks a lot for your knowledge, a bit too late but better late than never... What I did during this passed time, I've tried to boot again and I could boot onto OSX86_1 again. Then I cloned OSX86_1 onto OSX86_2 with ccc and tried again to select the starting partition with OSX86_1 running, no partition is shown... and the system boot up onto OSX86_1 there is no way now to select the partition at boot... I'll make some more tries, Peloche |
@MILANCA thank you
|
I installed the 10.5.4 update through ASU and my keyboard and mouse stopped working.
I blew away the install and reinstalled 10.5.2 and I'm going to try it again. Any idea on the Keyboard and Mouse problem? They are PS2. |
You must make a backup of all related kexts BEFORE to apply the update. (ACPIPS2Nub.kext, ApplePS2Keyboard ...)
This will be fixed in the next version. |
Hi,
Dock Problem: I have 2 Versions runnig: zephs -> update via ASU, work perfekt! leo4all -> update via ASU, no dock anymore. Replacement of Dock.app failed, so i just copied the whole bunch of /system/libary from a to b and it worked again. It sits somehwere there. Tried the framework folder only first, as there are some modifications in the package, but still no dock. Didn't want to do it folder by folder then to find out, so I just took it all. Maybe that will help those who have backups or 2 partitions as well, probably someone finds out exactly what the issue is. P |
I eventually managed to update to 10.5.4 after a couple of failed attempts which botched my system twice. Both times I had to restore from my time machine backup because my hack was left unbootable.
The problem turned out to be was that I had the Kalyway 9.3.0 kernel installer in my downloads folder which it tried to install at the same time. It seems that it somehow interfered with the update - when watching the feedback when installing it didn't even run a cpuid check. |
I had Nvinstaller in my download folder and another app and it tried to install those too when i did the update
rule of thumb don't have any dmg or pkg in your download folder |
I already added the in the ASU news thread. This error is a nice function to patch packages. Best use always 'Modify Only'.
|
heh.. yeah I read that afterwards :)

any new Releases?
hi to all, I just want to know if there is any new releases from Z. or Mac4all with all the new updates 1.5.4? I did not see any release of new DVDs in the net with this update yet. When? |
The need for new releases just isn't there. Using ASU has allowed everyone to update to 10.5.4 without needing a new release. PPFd versions are available to get up to 10.5.3, but so far I haven't heard of anything to 10.5.4 yet. Don't worry, someone will eventually.
|
@nfoav8or
thanks for the information. I will wait untill I will see the new PPfd version. |
Everything went fine, but iWork doesn't work any more! I can't open documents or create a new one. I tired to reinstall iWork but the problem is still existing.
|
Have you downloaded all updates for iWork?
|
Yea all updates for iWork are installed.
|
Try ditching the iWork preferences if you haven't already, something may of corrupted during the install.
|
I deleted the preferences plist from the library folder and from the user folder but the problem is still existing. I also tried it with an different user but without success. It always looks like this when I create or open a document:
http://www.imgimg.de/uploads/iwork41e83449jpg.jpg Edit: I also found out that my screensaver lags and iTunes doesn't show my cd covers. But my graphic card (7900GT) is correctly recognized. |
hi all...
updating 10.5.4 using ASU is bad. i've updated it, and my hack crashed! so wait from our guys to confirm it. my daily hack, ohh... |
@ kroviken
What version did you update from? I know when you start mixing up the combo updates using ASU, it doesn't always work out to well. what kind of crash are we talking about? kernel panics? system freeze? |
10.5.2 leo4all v2...system freezing...ohhh...
|
well in my case, to be sure it would work, first I would upgrade the kernel and system kext while in 10.5.2...
After I was sure the system was stable and running smoothly, I upgraded to "AMD 10.5.3" which, yes, is 10.5.3 but it is also what you want to look for when searching the bay. After that's installed and the system runs smoothly, I would use ASU to upgrade to 10.5.4... This method has worked for me a bunch of times (as I frequently test out new ways of installing to test partitions). Now I simply save the Mod-updates as they come out so I will not have to make a huge combo-update-jump in the future. Hope this helps. |

I finally just repackaged the update myself and installed it. Worked fine then. |

After you unpack the package and patches it, how do you repack it? |
A newbie here..am on Zephroth 10.5.2. Can I update to 10.5.4 using ASU? Or do I need to do something else. Thanks
|
@colo; yes, you can update using Zeph's AMD Software Updater but not with Apple's built in Software Updater. If you want the latest kernel and system kext you will need to find and place those manually. Good luck.
|
Thanks..and how does one manually place the system and kernel kexts?
|
@ colo; check your pm

@ rogue
I've tried to use ASU to patch my MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.4.pkg file but it ALWAYS says that NO CPUID files have been found. It patches Front Row Update with success, however... Am I doing anything wrong? |
@ david; By default ASU downloads to /users/yourname/downloads/ which consequently confuses the app when multiple pkg files are downloaded. What you need to do is move everything from downloads into another folder, fire up ASU, select only the 10.5.4 package and try again - hopefully you won't get any further errors.
|
I've done that, but ASU still can't patch the 10.5.4 package... It says NO CPUID files found.
|
If you're on 10.5.3 you can use this pre-patched update.
|
I'm on 10.5.2.
Do you know where I can download 10.5.3 pre-patched update? The torrent I've found has only 2 seeds and is downloading sooooooooo slow. |

Hi there
I was browsing the forums for about 2 hrs now but... maybe i'm dumb but where do i find a download link for the 10.5.4? I have an AMD cpu and i wanna get the mac on it, however i don't know exactly what to do. Sry if i posted in the wrong place, i'm kinda newbie here :D So, can anyone guide me into installing mac on my pc? Ty in advance, Adrian |
Hi adrianp,
FYI this thread is actually about updating to 10.5.4 from a previously installed version. What you should be searching for is a premade distribution for AMD machines, such as LawlessPPC, Leo4All v4.1. You can find them in the usual places easy enough ;) The best advice I can give you is to know your machine. I'm talking about learning the actual chipset names that exist on your motherboard along with all of your attached hardware. This knowledge is invaluable when selecting the correct drivers on installation. Just remember that perseverance and research is the key to a fully functioning system, good luck! :) |
