Thanks Puttabong
I will try now :) |
Hey guy, check out the print screen @ Seawane
how come it only show : Total Number of cores: 1 ?? it should say 4 rite? I got same prolem. Also it show the L2 @ 512KB how about L3??? @ 2MB??? any Idea? |
Install went great, all working except audio (ALC882). 7300GT, AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+, DFI Infinity Mobo, nForce 570.
Only problem.. random hangs, including mouse. competely frozen. Happened once running xbench, and again just now logging into a website in firefox. How do I troubleshoot that? |
Puttabong
where should I paste the printed screen? thanks |
LawlessPPC I´m portuguese the language support works fine, no need to install anything else
|
@lungkao
cpu cores will only show 1. System monitor should show all cores active and what percentage |
@synmoo
do you have 4GB of memory if so thats the problem its well documented. It only affects nforce chipset I believe you need to run the argument for only 3.5GB. <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>maxmem=3456</string> you need to add that to com.apple.boot.plist in root:library/preferences/systemconfiguration hope this helps LawlessPPC |
@LawlessPPC
I only have 2GB. No panic log and system log offered no help. I am also experiencing profiler saying 1 core, but everything else says 2. About this mac has wrong ram speed also. Shows 400 when I have 800. Edit: Update... I've gotten xbench to crash, not a kernel panic though. top details: Process: Xbench [282] Path: /Applications/Xbench.app/Contents/MacOS/Xbench Identifier: com.spiny.xbench Version: 1.3 (1.3) Code Type: X86 (Native) Parent Process: launchd [145] Date/Time: 2008-07-24 16:02:10.411 -0400 OS Version: Mac OS X 10.5.4 (9E17) Report Version: 6 Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000004 |
everybodies profiler will say 1 core thats the nature of the beast untill someone comes up with a patch or you physically edit applesmbios if i remember rightly same with mem speeds see here -------> http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=112134&hl=smbios . But if you check activity monitor you will see they are there and working
The majority of exc_bad_access errors ive had have been before the program was patched with marvin. I will see if I experience the same probs. Thanx LawlessPPC |
@Lungkao
PS2 mouse problem seems to be an issue with 10.5.4 itself heres a fix. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=117359 l8rs LawlessPPC |
Thanks LawlessPPC
for some reason, both PS2 and USB mouse is working fine right now thanks for your help |
Seems to work here

Works Perfect!!! Only thing is can't get mac msn to work, it keeps telling me wrong password
|
Alot of people over at leo4all forum are having great success with your release
the only thing they said still doesn't work is msn messenger just like zeph's releases |
hmmm I will need to look into the MSN problem as its something thats always bugged me do these people have sucess on other distro's.
@ syh921223 Try to disable as much of the hardware as you can in bios eg firewire, usb, network adapter, graphics card. Then just install your chipset drivers if you get that far. Tell me how you go on you go on. Thanx Everyone for your feedback Keep them coming LawlessPPC |
please share as a certain system gets a rest 2nite
|
Thanks for the release. I haven't had a chance to install it yet, but I did start up the install disk and it notices my whole HDD, which was the main problem as far as any problems for me go. Thanks!
|
@LawlessPPC: let your system rest for a while... I've got a couple sources seeding and will continue to do so for at least a week to ensure people get it and let the seeding grow. I've also directed support questions to this forum so you may see a few new members peeking in to ask some NOOB questions. I'm sure we'll all try to help out with that (as that is the way we do it at this forum). Cheers.
Stix |
I'm seeding too, and I have a pretty good up speed imo for an "american" broadband connection. 60 kb/s is what I limit it to though, since I need to be able to still use my internet shared amongst 5 people.
|
Im currently seeding it on a few russian trackers :)On my system it runs great

hi all
i tried leopard 10.5.1 and 10.5.2 from zeph in 5.1 the installer throws an error when installing files into the disk in 5.2 it just keeps rebooting so my last hope is this release... (that only have 1 seed right now u.u) my proc is amd phenom 9750 (x4),chipset AMD 770, 2 gb ram, gpu geforce 8800gt and sata hdd... can you say me if will this version work??? and thanks for your very good work! |
I`m trying it on my BenQ P52 lappy cause it seems to be only way to get 10.5.4 update ( tried many ways to update - always crashed my os ). Will post results.
|
@waiflih: Your system specs all fit in the range of what LawlessPPC designed this for. Just make sure you Customize to select all the specially needed kexts for it. I hope you find it to be one of the best releases yet.
As with everyone else, this "distro" works great on my system and so far the only tiny hiccup in it is one that everyone else has pointed out... MSN messenger (which I don't use anyways). I did have to open the Terminal and ensure the permissions were reset to the proper ones as well as fix the audio (alc888 didn't install correctly from the DVD). |
LOL, well, I thought that this distro would work, and it installed without a hitch, but now, when I go to boot the machine, I get the "Still waiting for root device" message. Seemingly out of nowhere considering when I installed it from the DVD it found my PATA drive without a hitch. I'm going to try re-installing within the next couple hours here to see if I can get it to work. I'll post my results then.
|
which third party kexts did you Customize your install with?
|
Well, that's why I'm re-trying.... I started the install somewhere around 2 AM and I was quite tired, so I didn't notice the customize button, which I'm now doing. Pretty much the only thing I chose was the SB600 kext because I forgot to last time. I'm hoping that that should clear up all my problems. It's currently installing. I didn't choose any others because I figured I could install them afterwards once I know what my hardware is. (Didn't pay much attention during Windows install because it found everything automatically.)
|
Nope, doesn't look that worked either... I'm still getting the grey screen with a slashed circle. Booting with "-v" tells me that it is the same problem I was having before the reinstall "Still waiting for root device." I'm gonna find the root of this problem somehow. There's got to be something on the DVD that is making it boot but then isn't installed when I install OSx86. Any suggestions?
|
rather than listing everybody individually (this doesnt mean I'm any less gratefull)
Thankyou for your input. Now to the bugs LOL Ok the Nforce7 support is totally unknown to me (i didnt know it was supported) I will have to check. Same goes for SB700 I have no knowledge of a working kext for this. But I will look into it. @Ikari7789 I know what your issue is no chipset driver installed or maybe the way you have your bios setup. Please keep posting as all the bugs are to be tackled on a total rebuild. I need ppls repsonses becuase the only hardware I can test on is Nforce4, SB600, Alc888, VIA, SSE3, SSE2, Phenom, ADI1988 (i think), CMedia 8738, Athlon X2 5000, Geforce8400 GS, ATI HD3650. So as you see its quite limited. If you find kexts (drivers to things that dont work please supply links or give as much info as possible as this will be in the next build but dont expect it too soon. As this release was essentially just a play to see what I could achieve in little over a week (I think). For those who have issues please make sure you understand how to install OSX first. The only non user input fully automated parts of this install are the booting of the DVD, The kernel installation and the bootloader and partition activation (these seemed to cause the most headaches). Everything else is down to user intervention. So please help me and if I dont know whats broke I cant fix it. @ Nfoav8or which alc888 was it 3 port, 6 port or digital Thanx LawlessPPC P.s. please be kind and dont forget its a BETA |
@Lawless
6 Port... but I've tried each of the included ones. I've just gone back to my AppleHDAPatcher with the text file fix. Its no big deal. easily fixed but not ideal. To everyone else asking questions about the installs... another good place to look if you want to hep yourself learn regarding installs is the OSx86 <a href="http://osx86.wikidot.com/">wiki page</a>. A lot of old but useful fixes, installers, etc. can be found at this site. |
@nfoav8or
did it complain about badly installed kext when you booted for alciject.kext etc or not Thanx LawlessPPC |
Let's see, if it's a BIOS related thing, I have nothing but the base settings enabled. I tried all three of the RAID modes (IDE, RAID, AHCI) and none of them allowed OSx86 to boot. I've now re-installed it on a freshly formatted partition 3 times using custom settings and choosing the SB600 kext each time, the latest time installing all the kexts for my system because I looked them up. I still get the "Still waiting for root device" and I cannot figure out why.
|
ikari7789 can you tell me your motherboard model. Also if you look up the spider platform thread and install the sb600 kext by hand then boot with -v -f then install it again with kext helper.
Tell me how you go on Thanx LawlessPPC |
I have the MSI K9A2 Platinum Rev 1.0
So... the SB600 kext isn't installed with your build of 10.5.4? I can grab the kext for the SB600 from the other thread, I know where it's at. Where do I install it at though once I get it? I can use transmac with Vista correct? I don't really feel like using USB to do it because it's my primary hdd. |
well if you can still boot up with the DVD you can place the kext on a flash drive and install it to your drive in the
<b>/System/Library/Extensions/</b> folder. The permissions can then be set manually using the Terminal (for this I will use "Leopard" as the name of the volume you installed to): <b>chmod -R 755 /Volumes/Leopard/System/Library/Extensions/</b> <b>chown -R root:wheel /Volumes/Leopard/System/Library/Extensions/</b> Since you can't boot from your OS X drive, you'll be unable to use kext helper right away... but that is a lot easier to just drag-n-drop-n-forget. transmac is good, but it defeats the ability to get to know your Mac System. using the DVD and a flash drive will allow yo to get into the weeds a little more... I think everyone should be able to use the Terminal. remember... to copy a file in Terminal: <b>cp -R /path/to/original/file /path/to/new/location/</b> hope that helps. @LawlessPPC It stated a few errors at startup dealing with permissions... yeah, the alcinject but also the broadcom wireless kext. fixed permissions through the Terminal and by installing my audio through AppleHDAPatcher... Its working fine now on my Test drive. I'm thinking of installing it to my main drive (I like the fact that I can use Time Machine again...). I want to install fully from DVD to see if I can correct any noob mistakes I might have done through the Customize option. Except for those few hiccups, I think its a sound installer! Good work mate. Cheers, Stix |
Thanks for the info nfoav8or. I'll try it later when I feel like losing my Windows boot again... LOL
|
@ikari7789
no worries mate. You'll get through this eventually. I was in your shoes about a year ago. I owned a PC but also went and bought a Macbook. After using my Macbook, I found myself going to my Windows PC less and less until I finally just needed it for work. Now I solely use OS X... with VMWare Fusion of course for the work requirement. It may sound sucky but to really make your system work well, you may want to backup your Windows files externally and then reinstall completely over your main HD. If you have an extra HD lying around, it may be better to just install OS X to that one only for the time being until you find out exactly how to make your system work. The BIOS should still give you the option to boot to a specific HD (which you can select between reboots). What kind of other Hardware do you have in your computer (besides motherboard, you stated that already)? hint: go to "About This Mac" and "More Info" to get to System Profiler while in the install DVD to make a list of what OS X sees. Good luck and happy hacking. |
Yeah, I do have a spare HD, but I just popped it into my server unfortunately :(
It wouldn't really work anyways seeing as all of the ports on my PC are already taken up. I don't really care as much about losing my main drive partition because I've got everything backed-up on my RAID and is where I keep all my media. I just need to reinstall programs which takes about an hour for all my big programs besides CS3 and Office. I've used mac before (10.4.9) on my old server machine, but I just got my new computer for graduation and figured that I'd give it a shot. Thanks for the tip about using a USB drive. Didn't even think about it even though you could do the exact same thing with windows... LOL. I use Windows extensively and use Mac for fun. I'm a gamer so Windows is where I'm needed + I just find it a lot more compatible and less nerve wracking to use. But I'm also a computer enthusiast, so I prefer to have a wide understanding of hardware and software. I've sorta lost hope with Linux, I just don't see the mass appeal when you need to sudo everything, but on Mac I've noticed that it just isn't as irritating. The Linux people always seem to be raving about how nice it is and how nice it looks, but as far as I've seen, the only way to really do anything on it is all through a terminal which annoys the hell out of me because I copy lots of files and such. And I prefer organization so it usually ends up being depths of folders and copying my terminal just gets too annoying that just drag and drop. (I don't keep everything on my desktop like most people) My specs: psu: 650w Antec EarthWatts mobo: MSI K9A2 Platinum 790FX cpu: AMD Phenom 9850 BE gfx: 2x ATi Radeon HD 4850 512mb ram: 2x 2GB Corsair Dominator PC2-8500 hdd: 1x Seagate 250GB (PATA) 3x Seagate 250GB (SATA-I) / 1x Western Digital 250GB (SATA-II) (RAID 0) optical: Sony DRU-530A (really old, but it works well xD) EDIT: Oh yeah, I'm also just experimenting with Mac right now because there isn't support for my gfx card yet and probably won't be for a while, so I'm just basically at the mindset now that it SHOULD be possible so I'm GOING to make it to happen. |
@ikari7789
Sounds like a sweet setup to me. Rock on. I agree with the games, but I'm sold on my PS3 and X-Box so I use my PC for other things. I may be 25 but I still feel the need to play. haha. Where all have you searched for your graphics card? I was just looking for an EFI solution but am unsure how Chameleon reacts to native EFI input strings as of right now. Booting to a PATA drive is usually better in OS X because of the hiccups the support for SATA gives. L8ers |
I have a PS3 and a Wii that I use for gaming, but there aren't always enough things to keep me entertained on them so I need the PC for miscellaneous things such as word processing and gfx and video editing since I'll never achieve the capabilities on a hackintosh that I have on the native PC or Mac. And since I'm a poor college student, don't really have enough money for a macbook either. The graphics card just came out on the 25th of June and is different enough from the HD 38xx series that it needs a new driver written for it. I've looked and it seems like there might be support for them in the 10.6 beta, but they haven't gotten a confirmation from their beta source yet.
|
@ikari7789
yes it does install drivers for sb600 straight from the dvd. This is the chipset I have and it works fine. There is more than one driver floating around for this chipset and that why I'm saying try the other. Without being in front of your system I would not be able to tell you why it isnt working on your system. Is there any possibility you can save an install log for me. Not just the errors it may throw up but all logs. Thanx LawlessPPC |
Ok, I just got new motherboard today, I try to test on Dual Quad core opteron.
The model for motherboard is: MSI Speedter when system boot from DVD, it just hang @ System Model Name: MCP55 I already try -v -f -x but still same anyone have idea? thanks |
Which variant of the "MSI Speedter" do you have?
Also, did you mean "MSI Speedster"? |
sorry for my english,
I mean MSI Speedster :) |
there are different variants of the MSI Speedster...
for example: 945GT - INTEL chipset (won't work with this) 915GM - INTEL chipset (again) K9ND K9NU Please be more specific. Thanks. |
Thanks nfoav8or
Thanks for your help, I have K9ND, and DVD load now to install window, :) Now I installing, :) I will report if whole things working :) |
Awesome. Did you ever find out what the problem was?
|
yes, I did :)
