nfoav8or and if that doesn't work should I not choose nforceata or nvinject?
|
You want to avoid choosing any video drivers at this point. If no video drivers are installed you will get default graphics and can fix that at a later time.
Since you have had so many issues with the install the goal should be just to get into OSX with the bare essentials. I went through 3 or 4 installs just selecting different options and it became a little frustrating. I took a sheet of paper and wrote out all of the install options (you may find these to print out somewhere) and several columns to the right labeled 123.... Every time I did an install I put a check mark next to items that I selected and at the bottom I described my results. Keeping this log is a good idea. In the end I found it easier for me to choose the bare minimum to install on my machine as I wanted to know what needed to be patched and why. |
So I shouldn't install nforceata either correct?
|
or install AppleNForceATA but if it hangs at AppleNForceATA do I leave it? and wait to see what happens? after how many minutes do I then come to the conclusion it's not working?
|
Understanding that you are not selecting anything in the video, sound or audio driver sections I would just pick AppleNForceATA and see where you are at. Give it a few minutes and see if it makes it past. Id also write down, in detail, the options you selected on install and then post them along with your results.
After install completes and your computer reboots remember to add the boot flags discussed earlier so that you are in verbose mode. As I mentioned before I did a handful of installs picking and choosing between the drivers listed but I had the best results when I chose the bare minimum on install and then installed them separately after I was up and running in OSX. |
Hey Lance I got it working!!!!!! Except the internet
|
I wanna thank schwamm,lanceomni,nfoav8or and verdant. These guys helped me to the max!!!! I really appreciate your guys help because if if wasn't for you guys I wouldn't have gotten this far nor would I be able to call my self a hackintosher!!! You guys are the best if there's ever anything that I can help you guys out with just name it and I'll try my hardest to comply like yo guys did with me. Oh yeah one last thing could you guys help me get my internet up and running. I have an 54g Wi-Fi LAN (802.11b/g) that I want to get connected. I'd appreciate if you guys could help me out with this who ever can I'd appreciate it!!! Again THANKS!!!!!
|
Awesome... I opened a beer just for you.... now backup ;)
Your wireless adapter looks to be on-board and I didn't see any mention of the its type in the spec sheet. Your motherboard is manufactured by Asus as an A8N-BR and HP renames it Pyrite-GL8E. Not too much information is available on them When I start looking for a driver I begin with finding out: 1. Manufacturer Name 2. Model Number 3. Version 5. Vendor ID 6. Device ID Seeing how we don't know the manufacturer of the wireless adapter on your motherboard we can try to find it by finding the device & vendor IDs first. I would download DPCI Manager here: http://duddie.kazzuya.com/proj/DPCIManager_01.zip This tool allows you to find the Vendor & Device IDs It will show you something like this: http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/6164/dpciev5.png For example the numbers on the left in the first column are the Vendor IDs and the numbers on the right in the first column are the Device ID. Find your wireless card's vendor & device IDs See if you see any reference to a wireless adapter and post everything on that line. Ive talked to a few people who had onboard wireless and few were able to get it running and had to go the PCI card route. You should have one free port on your motherboard. Alternatively it might be a bit easier to get your wired connection up and running. VIDEO What about video? When you go to the apple in the top left corner of your screen and choose About this Mac then More info. what does it say under graphics/displays? |
Hey Lance,
I don't know how to load the DPCI manager because my dvd burner doesn't read when I'm in leoand it didn't say anything for my video my only resolution is 1024x768 but that's fine with me!!!:) In about this mac it says 2ghz and my processor is unkown but it says my ram some say Kalyway is the most stable and some say iDeneb is my question is should I try to load iDeneb v1.3 10.5.5. and select all the wifi drivers. To see if that works or no? |
A USB thumb drive would be useful. Try to get your video up and running first. Try NVkush. There is a link in my signature. Once we get that issue solved we will move on to your wireless card. Finding out what kind of wireless adapter thats on your motherboard would be usefull. So try to find a way to get DCPImanager transfered over.
So your dual booting I presume? If so does the icon for that partition show on your desktop? Check Disk Utility located in Applications/Utilities and see if you see your windows volume. |
Yes I'm dual booting but I don't see my windows disk
[Edit] ok I'm going to try the nvkush and get back to you |
Hey Lance I ran into some snags last night so I came to talk to you.
First my video: Vendor:Nvidia Device id:0x0241 Rev ID:0x00a2 Vram(total) 256MB Usb Wireless 802.11b/g Product ID:0x0004 Vendor ID:0x15a9 Manufacture: Gemtek Kalyway wouldn't read my usb pen drive even though I had the usbfix checked in the customize options menu so I couldn't run the DPCI manager on the Nvkush installer. I messed up my dual boot so how do I dual boot xp and kalyway on the same Serial ATA hard drive without the efi v8 stuff? [Edit]ok I'll keep it in mind and make sure that I'll keep everything together |
To keep things simple if you need to post additional information so soon after a previous post you can actually go back and edit it. Generally I place [Edit] before the additional information. Ive edited the above posts as an example.

I was trying to use my ethernet bridge that I used to use on my old powermac g3 and I get the three out of five green lights ( the ones that are red at the Internet and the Server) so I'm trying to get it up and running but for some reason it's not working. I have a motorola wireless ethernet bridge WE800G I have the dual boot working now my ethernet bridge will work in windows xp but it doesn't work in leo it tries but it doesn't.
[Edit]Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Don't want to sound ungrateful [2ndEdit]This is what I got Gemtek USB Wireless 802.11b/g adaptor identified as device 15a9:0004 Driver name: netr73.sys, provided by Ralink if Gemtek's website info is still accurate for my device, the only possible model they list that matches me is the WPI-100G. And from other lookups, that makes it a BroadCom chipset. |
Hey Lance you can close this thread man, my internet is up and running. I'm sending this message from Safari. My Video is isn't working but I'll wait for a kext that can work with it. Thanks to everyone who helped!!!! I'll never forget you guys.Infinitemac 4 Life!
|
You managed to get your wireless card supported? or are you running wired?
Installing NVinject or NVkush in the method I described didnt get your card up and running? |
It said that Nvinject was only for Intel not AMD so I didn't try that one so you think I should? I'm running wired with my Wireless ethernet bridge I got it to work by uninstalling forcedeth and installing that same thing you are using Nforcelan
|
NVinject works with both AMD and Intel. The people who posted that probably haven't tried it on AMD... I've used it plenty in the past and it should work fine for you if you select the right things to install.
|
Give it a try. Remember to remove any and all other video related kexts first.
Here is a link to a post where manual installation is described. http://www.infinitemac.com/f5/imposs...0-256mb-t1762/ |
Hey lance where do I get the nvinject.kext from?
[Edit]Because Diabolik's is a package you know not the .kext file itself. |
Try this link ;) You want the one that says "Latest_NVinject.0.2.1.zip"
Give NVinject a try I bet it works. Follow the directions on the post I linked to. If NVinject doesn't work try manually installing NVkush. Here is just the kext: http://rapidshare.com/files/175004197/NVkush.zip P.S. Im just giving you a hard time with the google thing. I had to do it as it was the first on the page. ;) |
Quote:
wow lance, you weren't kidding around in that PM... haha. Didn't think I'd see it in a forum reply but WOW!... so Alphaman, he's basically telling you to go to: http://nvinject.free.fr/ ^_^ |
Nfoav8or: Ive been saving it for a top of the search results situation. Sorry Alphaman I am just being an ass. ;)
Likewise here are the instructions that I linked to just so that we have all the information in one place. 1. Remove all video related kexts (nvkush, nvinject...) 2. Copy NVinject.kext to /System/Library/Extensions 3. In Terminal write: Code:
sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/NVinject.kext 5. Enter your admin password when prompted 6. In Terminal write: Code:
sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/NVinject.kext Code:
-v -f -F -f Ignore extensions cache -F Ignore com.apple.boot.plist settings If use any other boot flags add them to number 7. |
Neither worked. Upon trying to install nvinject and typing in sudo rm -R /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache in the terminal it says no such file or directory

EDIT: oh wait... I've got the same on-board video as you. CI/QE isn't supported by this. You need a better GPU. I'd recommend a PCI-e card with at least 256MB dedicated video RAM. :) sorry bud. I simply don't show it in my signature so it never crossed my mind until now. |
And you did reboot using the flags
Code:
-v -f -F [EDIT] Unfortunately he has only one PCI slot available. Though there are PCI graphics cards available. |
the 6150 LE should get resolution support... but it doesn't have the capability for CI/QE support.
|
The only settings it has in Displays is 1024x768 and millions that's it.
[Edit] Yes I did the boot flags. |

Help me!
I have the same initial problem alphaman had "the apple loading sign upon a successful install yet it just keeps spinning and nothing else happens". Actually, i only get the loading sign when i type "cpus=1" when i boot and if i do a straight boot, then i would just get a grey apple with a white background with no loading. When i flag -v on startup to see where i get "hung up" it stops at "MAC Framework successfully initialized using 16384 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers". Could you guys PLEASE help me out! I'm using the Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD. Specs:
80GB Serial ATA hard drive 4GB DDR3 SDRAM 1333 (PC3 10666) ASUS P5Q3 Motherboard LGA 775 Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.4GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 video card with 896MB D-Link WDA-1320 IEEE 802.11b/g Realtek HD Audio |
Quote:
Have you tried any other distros? It is hanging right before it would load your chipset up to enable you to load the rest of the DVD. |
Hey Nfoav8or and Lance IOUSBFamily.kext does work for me because my usb slots aren't wokring do you guys know of any other usb kexts that might work.

nfoav8or, I really appreciate that one last thing. I know you and Lance were clowning me but it's all cool. I'm going to school for Computer Programming and Business Information Systems. Let me cut to the chase I don't know how to do the efi string or if I'm supposed to find it I tried Macvidia and it gave me resolution's but after a while the machine would display the crash screen with the power button behind it and eventually starting hanging upon booting.
(Delete/Move Geforce*.kext, NV*.kext. Install MacVidia 1.0.81; don't restart; open terminal; type 'sudo mkdir/NVBackup' type 'sudo mv /System/Library/Extensions/NV*.bundle /NVBackup' then type 'sudo mv /System/Library/Extensions/NV*.plugin /NVBackup' restart - open display properties and get 1280x800.) I got this from a guy named manofmany and I followed his instructions what he said worked but then it made my machine crash. I read on Insanelymac that Core Image can be enabled but quartz extreme can't. I just wanted my menu bar to be transparent like everyone else's but because of my video it won't work will nfoav8or? Please could you tell me how to set up the eif string to do the efi string for my video card. |
Quote:
edit that code above to be: boot with "-s" Code:
/sbin/mount -uw / To get EFI strings working, get OSx86 Tools Utility and click on the "Add EFI Strings/Boot Flags" another window will pop up called "Boot Editor" click on the GFX Strings button in the top left corner. select your Gfx card (NVidia GeForce 6150 xxxMB) then copy the hexadecimal code printed out in the bottom. now open Terminal and type: Code:
sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist use the arrow keys to scroll down to right before the last two lines which should read: Quote:
Quote:
Thats it for EFI. Now when you update your graphics to the new graphics update, the new NVDA kexts will recognize this and give you the resolutions allowed by the 6150... For Core Imaging... you can now try to install MacVidia. EDIT: in the code at the top you can also type in: Code:
rm -Rf Extensions/ATI* |
nfoav8or,
when i boot with "-f-x-v" on the disc, it will just try to install again. and if i boot "-f-x-v" on the hd, it goes to the screen with the gray apple with no loading signal. Only other distros i have tried is the "cpus=1" which will give me a loading signal and that's it. So, do you think i should start installing it with a different chipset each time? |
Quote:
secondly... so you're telling me you successfully installed?... if this is the case then yes, it sounds like you need to go back in and re-install. Make sure you CUSTOMIZE your install using the button in the lower left corner of the installer window just after you select where you want to install. Add in just your chipset for now unless you are completely sure of all the rest. thirdly... if you use the boot flags properly, when you use "-v" at all, you shouldn't see any Graphics until you are booted into the system. -v is verbose -x is safe mode -f is a forced load of the Extensions folder (which includes all the kext fixes you customize to as well as many other essential kernel extensions) If you've already done this and it still doesn't work, let me know as it may be a little more in-depth than these simple fixes. Best of luck bud. EDIT: just in case, I better throw this out there for you... when you enter the boot flags in, don't include those quotation marks from above... those are there only to show a separation from the rest of the text. |
Now i am having a totally different problem. i can't even install anymore. when i try, it hangs up at the "kernel version: ..."
|
Quote:
you press f8, then press any other key during the countdown, then enter the boot flags and press enter... installer should load up. |
Only thing that i changed since yesterday was the bios settings so i can run my windows that has its own hd. I think there is something in the bios setting that i am missing.
when i use the use "-v", "-f -x -v", or "-f -x -v cpus=1" boot flags, it keeps stopping at "kernel version:..." I am finishing up a download of a different "distro" iATKOS. |
@ schr3531: can you post the specs you did from your first post in this thread to your signature? this would be very helpful when doing first glances with what you are saying. Thanks bud.
Now on to the problem... 1) A BIOS setting of AHCI should be flagged for use in your BIOS. 2) You aren't typing the quotation marks into the boot flags right? it really shouldn't skip over it and hold at the kernel name. try the DVD again with just the boot flag: Code:
cpus=1 Which version of iAtkos is it? what system version will it install? The retail kernel should run on your processor. I'm 95% sure of this... I'll do some checking. |
1) I changed the bios setting
2) Haha! No quotations, but i wasn't putting a space between the boot flags earlier. Tried the DVD again with the "cpus=1" boot flag and it is still getting hung up at "kernel version:..." 3)iATKOS v. 1.0i Mac OS X Leopard 10.5. Haven't used it yet tho |
By the way, I only changed that one BIOS setting: Configure SATA as AHCI
|
I just did a quick search and found that your board (ASUS P5Q3 LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard) uses the Intel P45 Northbridge (NB) chipset and the Intel ICH10R Southbridge (SB) chipset.
This is going to be a real bitch... yeah, I know. I said it. but it is. sorry. I'll point you to where you can get more help... but this is something that I don't feel comfortable telling people to do (flashing their BIOS)... http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.p...ic=112033&st=0 starting with post #21 you start to see where it all starts. I had hoped I could help more with this... I don't own this board (so I am not that fluent on it) and to be honest, I really recommend not going through this unless you REALLY know what you are doing and feel ballsy. Sorry bud. I can give more explanation by explaining things I've read at that link though so feel free to ask about it. EDIT: if it was a Gigabyte P45 board I'd be thrilled to help (as it can practically install retail OS X) but it isn't... man this is a bummer. EDIT #2: well ok, so it really isn't that bad... but the potential is still there to ruin your board. read post #30 at that link and it will give full explanations as to what you need to do. Just be aware that there may be some pitfalls later on. Don't say it wasn't warned against. Best of luck. The board should be a sweet Hackintosh if you can get it working. |
If it does come down to flashing your bios DO NOT use the Asus Update utility from windows. Even the Asus representatives say it pretty much always borks your system.
I used this tool despite knowing it was a bad idea (I do that kinda thing often) It is possible to fry your bios for good and if your not lucky enough to have a removable bios chip your whole mobo will have to go. |
Nfoav8or the Efi worked perfectly but when I installed Macvidia it once again messed up my machine but I've read that Core Image is supported with that video card I just wanted to make my menu bar transparent but it isn't possible with this onboard video is it because if so it would have already been transparent correct? I have a question though, with Kalyway 10.5.2 I can shutdown my machine but I can't restart as you know i have to pull out the plug is their a way I can fix that so I can restart it. For example, when I install a kext and it asks me to reboot I go to reboot it and the apple logo sign just keeps spinning but it won't reboot but I can shut it down though.
|
Quote:
as for the restart. You have a couple options here... one is to open Terminal: Code:
sudo reboot Code:
sudo -s |
nfoav8or and lance after I do the efi strings the machine will work wonders until I restart it and then it won't let me in the machine it gives me the apple loading sign just spinning a.k.a the loop so I think I'm just going to leave it at 1024x768 , millions because it works for a minute then a problem comes and i don't want to keep bugging you and Lance but I'd be glad if you could tell me where to purchase a good low profile or half height pci video card that I can put in this machine that would give me Core image and quartz extreme. or atleaset give allow to play videos and a transparent menu bar. I would disable my onboard and pop that in quick fast in a hurry.
|
The issue with this request is that you aren't going to find many low-profile graphics cards that will give a lot of features.
Here's a 7300GS: http://www.nextag.com/Jaton-Video-PX...9AAB8675FCF9E0 or just go go to nextage.com and search for "low profile pci video card" and it will give you listings of them... then it will point you on to where you can buy them. Hope it helps. |
Do you know if they are any kexts to get a dvd burner working? My burner can read and I can pull things off of cd's but I can play movies or burn things.
