Should I include it in Leo-10.5.2 ?

I've installed it manually and all is ok but after adding it to the ISO and trying an installation I get a kernel panic on first boot ...

zephyroth 02-14-2008 02:47 AM

Yes, EFI is included but I think I've just find why it gives me a kernel panic ...

EDIT: BTW I was talking about 9.2.0 kernel not EFI .

megaargon1 02-14-2008 02:51 AM

What was the reason you were getting a kernal panic? It is 9.2.0 in 10.5.1 too right?

Nop It's 9.2.0 in 10.5.2 . And ... I still don't understand why it gives me a kernel panic ... grrr

Same thing.
However, I'll be waiting.

megaargon1 02-14-2008 03:14 AM

so basically you slipstreamed 10.5.2 with your update, and all of a sudden gave you a kernal panic?

zephyroth 02-14-2008 03:27 AM

Exactly but not all of a sudden ... Just because I made an error in a script ! :-)

Thanks for closing that other thread, "What is your status Zephyronth?" It was going to become endless. @DoiX,I read your post nice and carefully. I see where your intentions were. Sometimes its better not to disclose that kind of language.

megaargon1 02-14-2008 04:00 AM

Wouldn't that be something to announce to Apple. Apple is responsible for these kind of problems, unless you patched something so it can work with AMD-based processors.

rumar4u 02-14-2008 04:01 AM

Well Finally...
After almost 36 hours of trying everything to update to 10.5.2 im reporting success...

But, the new Kernel 9.2 needs to be downloaded and applied with the dsmos.kext

The LeoGraphicsUpdate with GeForce 8600GT and patches at first gave me Kernel Panic but i restored the NV* & Ge* kexts with NVinject and its up and running flawless, it even managed to take away the Glitches and some Antialiased problems

Also downloaded the old nvinject 0.1.3 cause it shows in System Profiler my Video Card (8600GT) with the correct Ram

Running on: nForce 4 Ultra, s939, x64 4200, 1Gb Ram, 8600GT, USB Audio (M-Audio Transit), nForce Lan, USB Modem (Sprint PCS Broadband)

Time Machine Backups fixed (little icon in the taskbar spins!!!) :-D

Success Report

megaargon1 02-14-2008 04:02 AM

Finally, someone reports a success with the 10.5.2 update. Time me to try it myself. Thanks for detailing your solution.

roisoft 02-14-2008 04:07 AM

Zephyroth! Do you have your HD ok? maybe this is a kind of Hard Disk Corruption?

megaargon1 02-14-2008 04:08 AM

Zephyroth (or if someone else can clearly answer this), what is the difference between the AMD and Intel Kernal? Is the performance the same? What about stability-wise?

DoiX 02-14-2008 04:15 AM

the intel kernel is vanilla.. meaning it supports the original kext files from a real mac because its intel... the amd kernel is patched in order to work on this type of processor, vanilla is better than e patched kernel

megaargon1 02-14-2008 04:17 AM

Are there any performance differences?

Thanks for explaining.

zephyroth 02-14-2008 04:19 AM

@roisoft

My HD is ok according to diskutil. It doesn't happen for all Applications. I've just checked the preinstall and postinstall scripts of 10.5.2 update but I didn't find anything that can explain this behaviour.(even with Google).

DoiX 02-14-2008 04:38 AM

megaargon, please don't write consecutive posts..... if you have something to add use the edit button

zephyroth 02-14-2008 04:45 AM

Ok I've just made a fresh installation ... all went fine.

10.5.2 Rev1 is the same as Rev.2 except:

- Kernel 9.2.0 + System.kext + dsmos.kext
- Modified Security Update and Remote Desktop Client (some files were deprecated)
- Includes 10.5.2 Update
- Graphic Update without NVidia kexts
- NVidia Universal Installer with the kexts from Graphic Update

...

Should I include latest Quicktime and iLife update ?

Yes.

guliath 02-14-2008 04:55 AM

i vote to include them

HCE 02-14-2008 04:57 AM

I vote to leave them out and let people decide if they want them later on.

guliath 02-14-2008 05:00 AM

wait, can i insatll them EASILLY later? in that case i vote for the NO INCLUDED thing

HCE 02-14-2008 05:02 AM

I believe it's simply a matter of downloading/installing them. That's why I vote for leaving the installation image as light as possible. But that's just me.
P.S.: If I'm wrong, then better include it, it will surely make some people happy.

zephyroth 02-14-2008 05:04 AM

ok no cpuid for iLife and only one for QuickTime (QuickTime.components) so it should be easy to install later.

eard 02-14-2008 05:13 AM

i vote to include them
anyway, we will to downlad them later, so download the iso with the files inside
is the same thing but more easy :P
but

i think is better, i dont use iLife :P
tnx and cya latr!

lbodrozic 02-14-2008 05:23 AM

quick question, just to verify...

previous posts indicate that zephyroth's 10.5.2 rev1 will have sse2 only support. is that still the case?

i ask only b/c i see there will be some kernel updates to this release. want to make sure the sse2 only support doesn't get squashed in the process.

thanks, and great work you all!

[update]: by sse2 only support, i mean support for procs that do not have sse3. obviously if you have both, you're already all set.

DoiX 02-14-2008 05:32 AM

lol in 10.5.1 rev 1 zeph forgot to add the sse2 kernel meaning it had only sse3 kernel 10.5.1 rev2(not released to the public) has sse2 and sse3 kernel, 10.5.2 is 10.5.1 rev2 with the updates an other stuff (this one will be released to the public) has sse2/3 kernel support(as 10.5.1 rev2)

Ianxxx 02-14-2008 05:33 AM

Zeph I know you must get sick of this but I'm really really curious, how did you solve the nforce lan problem. I have 10.5.2 up and running new kernel etc. But still have the same issue.

guliath 02-14-2008 05:33 AM

well, i do use iLife a lot, so if it's instalation is easy to do later, i have no problem if it's not included

zephyroth 02-14-2008 05:38 AM

@lanxxx

I'm using original kexts with EFI ... Freezes stopped right after that.
I've still some issues when I upload/download at the same time but no freezes, just the internet connection that drops and I must restart my router.

megaargon1 02-14-2008 05:38 AM

Would be great if you include iLife. I've been wanting this all my life. Do you think you can also incorporate Garageband? That would be great man. Thanks a lot. :-)
Great to hear what you are including.

Thanks for answering, I'm guessing by originals you mean from 10.5.0 DVD?

zephyroth 02-14-2008 05:41 AM

I mean vanilla

DoiX 02-14-2008 05:41 AM

:))) i vote not to include ilife and quicktime updates :) they are easy to install :)

zephyroth 02-14-2008 05:44 AM

ok ok

Some more things to do, I don't know if it will be finished tonight, I'm tired.
Tomorrow I will not be @ home so you could expect a release for this week end.

zephyroth 02-14-2008 05:49 AM

thanks :-)

And I think Megaargon will not hate me for one more day ... (or two ... or maybe three ...)

:-)

xlslx 02-14-2008 05:52 AM

woooow....not too many days please ;)

what you have to do now? which works and which not, can you create a little list before you go to sleep or get the next hughe cup of very heavy coffee?

rodjoo 02-14-2008 05:58 AM

Well, I think that we can be veeery happy even if Zeph do that release for the weekend...don't forget that he's trying to get a nice smooth install on all our computers, and he can do trial-and-error only on his own computer...so he si doing a biiig job and we should let him do it the way he wants it...it is the least what he deserves..

So, I'll just sit back and continue to wait patiently for Zeph to do his work the way he wants it to be done, and than be very happy when he does the release :))

Thank you Zeph!!

xlslx 02-14-2008 05:59 AM

i totally agree to this! TOTALLY!

btw: Zeph, did you mean its a good idea to create a small beta for our testers, so they can test it on other amd machines and give you feedback for a smoother dvd?

zephyroth 02-14-2008 06:03 AM

- I get the "error 35" while booting the dvd thus the installer log is full with lines concerning this error and is not easy readable (and I tried everything to fix this issue: IONetworkingFamily ... etc)

- I still have the "Unable to load Info.plist exceptions" which appears in Terminal if you launch it while using your system.
(ex: You opened your Terminal to repair some permissions but didn't close it and in the same time if you opened some others apps, this message will appear in the opened Terminal with a $%+!? sound .)

- Some issue remains with IOKit prolly because of the new System.kext.

And maybe there are others things to do but I don't know at the moment

zephyroth 02-14-2008 06:06 AM

@ xlslx

Oh damn I forgot to finish the upload of the modified 10.5.2 update ... Puttabong will whip me until Death follows !

xlslx 02-14-2008 06:10 AM

Zeph i searched a little using google for the error35 using this search string with google "leopard boot error 35" and got this -> http://forum.osx86scene.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2984
which means this -> -bash-3.2# diskutil list
2007-11-05 18:46:20.839 diskutil[179:10b] _CFGetHostUUIDString: unable to determine UUID for host. Error: 35
2007-11-05 18:46:20.925 DiskManagementTool[180:10b] _CFGetHostUUIDString: unable to determine UUID for host. Error: 35

i am willing to search a little more for you to help you with your work, but i dont know if you are happy about my help or not.

got this too:

[update] Time machine now works OK with the default ToH IONetworking . . do you see the traditional:

“CFGetHostUUIDString: unable to determine UUID for host. Error: 35? error in console?

it seams the error is from everywhere of IONetworking!?

zephyroth 02-14-2008 06:13 AM

Yes I got this error ... And I managed to fix it several times with the appropriate IONetworking kext ...

howarchaic 02-14-2008 06:16 AM

Any luck with the new AMD chipsets?

roisoft 02-14-2008 06:18 AM

copy & paste from sneosx86.frefluux.net

Quote:

This workaround will help you to remove the "_CFGetHostUUIDString: unable to determine UUID for host. Error: 35" error.

1.) BACKUP your /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
2.) Open /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
3.) ADD AFTER <string>Ethernet</string></dict> the following:
<dict>
<key>BSD Name</key>
<string>en3</string>
<key>IOBuiltin</key>
<false/>
<key>IOInterfaceType</key>
<integer>6</integer>
<key>IOInterfaceUnit</key>
<integer>3</integer>
<key>IOLocation</key>
<string></string>
<key>IOMACAddress</key>
<data>
ABbPoF5V
</data>
<key>IOPathMatch</key>
<string>IOService:/AppleACPIPlatformExpert/PCI0@0/AppleACPIPCI/P0P3@1C,2/
IOPCI2PCIBridge/pci14e4,4311@0/AirPort_Brcm43xx/IO80211Interface</string>
<key>SCNetworkInterfaceType</key>
<string>IEEE80211</string>
</dict>
4.) IF you have more than 3 interfaces or there is an "en3" interface change it to "en4" or a higher number, don't forget to change this "<integer>3</integer>" to "<integer>4</integer>".
5.) You need to REBOOT
6.) If this work for you please tell me.
7.) If this workaround did not work please provide your system.log and your NetworkInterfaces.plist.

Why does this error happen?
Well at looking at the source code of the configd there is a plugin "InterfaceNamer" it seams the plugin will always skip interfaces
that are IOBuiltin = false. The "<key>IOBuiltin</key>" cannot be changed because the plugin will check and restore it on next boot.
But it does not check if wireless interfaces <key>SCNetworkInterfaceType</key><string>IEEE80211</string> are IOBuiltin.
Like I say this is only a workaround and there will be more need of testing.
