zephyroth 02-16-2008 12:23 AM

... Maybe I did something wrong while including 10.5.2 in the DVD ... I will recheck the pkg I've made.

cgsheen 02-16-2008 12:27 AM

eddie's went smooth as silk for me too. ( wish I hadn't done the graphics update from apple though... )

WinLinMac01 02-16-2008 12:38 AM

How do I go into VESA mode if I don't want to install EFI at the moment, and if I want to avoid 2 minute wait?

WinLinMac01 02-16-2008 12:40 AM

@quote oops.

How big is the new release? Anyone knows how long on average it takes to upload the whole image online?

As far as configuring EFI. You need to have some other source to store the files to set it up. I think it could be done from the install DVD from terminal, but you still need a mountable source other than your OSX drive to run the startupfiletool.
No. there are instructions included in the download for EFI that allows you to install it in Single User Mode. No need for a USB device or another partition or anything. (As long as you're not using Grub or some other boot loader that is...)

Create directory iamefi in the root folder of your boot osx disk.

Copy all included files into it

Boot in Single User mode by mashing F8 key during boot (right after bios POST) type -s and press enter

Then enter the following commands

cd /iamefi

./startupfiletool /dev/rdiskXsX ./boot_v8

reboot

Whereas rdiskXsX is the partition where your OSX install is (you can check that out on Disk Utility in OSX)

And v* is the EFI version bootloader you wish to use.

WinLinMac01 02-16-2008 12:50 AM

So I don't have to unmount my hd, right? Just create a new directory, copy and files, and reboot. That's it?

OK... Here's the link to Megaupload for eddie's file:

## added to the first Post.

Think we should put this in a new thread that's more "visable"??

enjoy!

WinLinMac01 02-16-2008 01:06 AM

Wow I had to wait literally for three hours to download his file via Frostwire whereas Megaupload took my less than 15 mins. Odd.

All you really have to do is extract the folder "iamefi" from pc_efi_v80.zip and drop it onto your root (boot) drive. Then restart and enter single user mode, type in the commands and reboot. Then you can add the new .kexts if you want to...

Puttabong 02-16-2008 01:11 AM

Thanks a lot cgsheen. Very appreciated. :)

timdsmith72 02-16-2008 01:12 AM

WinLinMac01:

When you boot into Single User Mode, your hard drives are not mounted anyway. So you just change into whatever directory you have the EFI files in and run that command.
Then type reboot.

WinLinMac01 02-16-2008 01:14 AM

Thanks a lot. Trying it now. If no reported success I'll wait tonight and download the next release instead and start from scratch. |:-)---

You'll take care of putting that in a place where everyone interested will see it?

Puttabong 02-16-2008 01:19 AM

Added the link to the first post of this Thread. Thanks again!

cgsheen 02-16-2008 01:27 AM

Went to the first post, didn't work for me... (don't need it, just checking)

Puttabong 02-16-2008 01:29 AM

Fixed.

Snow 02-16-2008 01:32 AM

THANK YOU EDDIE! YOU ARE A LIFESAVER!

I had a perfectly working Zephyroth 10.5.1 release until I tried the update. No matter what it would always fail on me while installing (blue screen, panics, etc) so I tried yours and no probs. Install with 9.2.0 kernel (EFI needed) , reboot and all works!

Thx again, I can now go back to my DAW use.

lag0matic 02-16-2008 01:34 AM

Looks like Megaupload killed it already :(

I go there and get "this file is temporarily unavaliable".

Any chance of a host picking it up? My torrent is gonna take weeks.

Snow 02-16-2008 01:35 AM

Oh and Eddie, Im counting on you for the next update bro ;)

cheers!

Puttabong 02-16-2008 01:36 AM

lag0matic, don't worry, the file is still up, I am currently downloading.

Sounds like some internal megaupload problems, try again in a few minutes.

Ath 02-16-2008 01:36 AM

Toast fix..I hope so.

Use Marvin's Utility to fix OpenGL related cpuid's in/System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framewor....

Snow 02-16-2008 01:38 AM

And I grabbed via torrent which took about 2 hours or so, not bad at all, I have that much patience for a proper working update.

lag0matic 02-16-2008 01:41 AM

Awsome, Putta. Thanks for the Info.

Btw. Long time reader, first time really posting. so.. HAI EVERYBODY :P

cgsheen 02-16-2008 01:45 AM

I'm seeding again - maybe that'll help a little.

( maybe I should have paid the $10 at megaup so more of you could get it quicker... oh well... )

lag0matic 02-16-2008 01:47 AM

Seems to have helped a bit, Cg, gone from 6.8k/s to above 20k/s

lol :D

cgsheen 02-16-2008 01:52 AM

Yesterday, when eddie was the only seed (but there were only 10 or 11 leechers) I was getting around 100k most of the time. My upload here at work sucks with DSL though - even though no limit, it tops out at about 55-60k...

pαuℓzurrr. 02-16-2008 02:11 AM

I've just installed this on my 10.5.1 EFI system, but i can only boot up using -f at boot? anyone has a fix to this?
Thnx ;)

p-J

lag0matic 02-16-2008 03:41 AM

Seemed to work fine here, however, I now show cores as 1.. odd.. used to show 2 cores.. but seem to respond snappy :D so who cares

EDIT: Is it safe now to update quicktime, frontrow, itunes? sounds like the graphics updates causes more problems

Ianxxx 02-16-2008 03:51 AM

Just wanted to say thanks Eddie

Installed Zephs 10.5.1 "with guid efi_v8"
Installed Eddies Update
Kernel didnt install "checked by uname -r"
so installed kalyway_10.5.2kernels.mpkg from the bay.
Installed LeopardGraphicsUpdate1.0.pkg

So far so good, everything seems to be working, reboot, sleep, etc.

jrangles 02-16-2008 05:52 AM

My installation is perfect and I did it thus:
I installed 10.5.2 update for AMD of thepiratebay

Download kalyway_hack_10.5.2ComboUpdate
_http://thepiratebay.org/tor/4024028/kalyway_hack_10.5.2ComboUpdate
Install generic kernel 9.2

As video I use drivers nati, to toaster runs to me perfect

Ianxxx 02-16-2008 06:04 AM

Just to update, my install wasn't as perfect as I had first thought.
On updating transmission "the Nforce Lan Freeze was back"
Also can't install Photoshop, illustrator CS2 and dreamweaver 2004

Me too.
9C31 & 9.2.0

eddie11c 02-16-2008 06:18 AM

By the way, to install the new 9.2.0 Kernel, make sure you select to install it in customize.

I had it turned off by default.

I have never ran into this problem on my Nforce LAN. What chipset is yours?

cgsheen 02-16-2008 07:18 AM

I just installed the netkas "speedstep blah, blah" mach_kernel 9.2.0. The System Profiler sees both my cores now. It also shows total memory and bus speed correctly, but craps out in the "Memory" information section. It used to gather the correct information on each of my mem sticks. Oh well... Hasn't really changed anything else - otherwise working exactly as before.

damnesiac 02-16-2008 07:52 AM

cgsheen - try the smbios-27 file from netkas after updating the kernel. Mine doesn't show correct ram info, but it has Manufactirer2 etc so its getting close.

CyCLoBoT 02-16-2008 07:54 AM

The speedstep kernel will work on AMD system? I have efi installed.

damnesiac 02-16-2008 07:57 AM

Yup speestep kernel is universal and works on amd.

Snow 02-16-2008 05:26 PM

UPDATE: nevermind, they seem gone now, back to proper patching.

kael 02-19-2008 10:36 PM

@eddie11c,
Can you tell me is there anyway to install the 9.20 kernel without EFI cos EFI makes my Spec reboot without a sign? I notice PC reboot at the line "System/Library/Extensions.mkext" when hitting -v at the very beginning after inserllation of EFI.

Thanx & Regards!

Kael

eddie11c 02-19-2008 11:16 PM

You will need EFI installed to use the new kernel unless someone has released a new version. EFI is not hard to install if you have an extra drive. I would suggest reading up on it.

kael 02-19-2008 11:41 PM

Thanx for your reply!Yes I just followed wikidot.com's instructions and installed EFI by DVD's Terminal even by my Tiger an I have tried for more than 5 times --everytime I have to rebuild my Leopard, but the result is the same--automaticaly reboot upon Darwin loading (and the New DVD v2 show the same issue, I even can NOT boot from DVD...can you tell me what is the problem?

(My Spec:Sempron 2800+ (SSE2/SSE3,64bit) GeForce 6600 256Mb,ASUS K8N4 E-SE NForce 4 chip,HDD:Seagate IDE 80Gb(For WIndows)+IDE 250Gb(For Leopard)+SATA 160 Gb(For SUSE))

Thanx & Regards!!

Kael

eddie11c 02-19-2008 11:49 PM

From looking here you need an SSE 2 kernel
http://osx86.wikidot.com/known-issues#toc5

zephyroth 02-19-2008 11:53 PM

mach_kernel 9.0.0 SSE2/SSE3 is installed if you don't select any kernel during installation.

eddie11c 02-19-2008 11:56 PM

but if he gets the mach reboot from the DVD i am not sure what he can do

zephyroth 02-19-2008 11:59 PM

oups ... It seems I'm tired ... the kernel in DVD is mach_kernel 9.0.0 which is SSE2/SSE3 so I'm wondering if it's related to the kernel.

kael 02-20-2008 12:43 AM

@eddie11c and Zephyroth,

Really thanx for all your replise! So, if it related to the kernel in the v2 DVD,is it possible to create a new iso by replacing the kernel in the v2 DVD with the kernel from the DVD v1(Yes,DVD 10.5.1 really works perfectly on my machine)to fit Sempron--I heard the same issue from splinter182
(http://osx.kbot.de/comments.php?DiscussionID=377&page=1#Item_10)and Althon(http://osx.kbot.de/comments.php?DiscussionID=360&page=1#Item_4)?And how?By
Ultra ISO?

Thanx & Regards!!

Kael

eddie11c 02-20-2008 01:00 AM

From windows this can be done with Ultra ISO, once you open the ISO in the program you can right click and choose to show the HFS information. Then simply drag the new kernel there and burn the ISO. Don't save it as this will mess up the ISO.

zephyroth 02-20-2008 01:04 AM

... if I don't make a mistake the kernel in 10.5.1 dvd is 9.1.0 ...
