Zephyroth, how muvh longer is there for the upload. can you please give us special procedures to locate the file on the web? thank you.

megaargon1 02-16-2008 09:27 PM

My question is, how big is the new release DVD IMAGE? Anyone know's. Zeph?

1207FX 02-16-2008 09:28 PM

SL DVD I think he had mentioned

[cite] Puttabong:[/cite]subsonic, I experienced the slow loading as well, so I just restarted Apache!

Please tell me if it's better!
Way better now =) Thank you

WinLinMac01 02-16-2008 09:33 PM

@Zephyroth, who will be the first ones to acquire the image?

roisoft 02-16-2008 09:40 PM

Apple store, of course!

WinLinMac01 02-16-2008 09:42 PM

LOL. I mean like after he uploads will we be able to immediately download, or it will take some time?

Quote:

[cite] roisoft:[/cite]Apple store, of course!

1207FX 02-16-2008 09:43 PM

the testers already have it, so this should be available to all of us once we sub to a newsgroup ? I'll sub for a single month fee!

WinLinMac01 02-16-2008 09:46 PM

and what about torrent?

megaargon1 02-16-2008 09:47 PM

What do you think Zeph's upload speed is?

StealthMode 02-16-2008 09:48 PM

Zeph said it will be uploaded to newsgroups first, then torrents.

1207FX 02-16-2008 09:48 PM

that I do not know?......................... unless it named "Leopard 10.5.2 AMD EFI " I'm searching for that until I hear otherwise

1207FX 02-16-2008 09:51 PM

looks like the band is all here. is this a groundbreaking ceremony? lol

WinLinMac01 02-16-2008 09:56 PM

are you serious? then torrents, why not just do the public a favor and upload to torrents first? What is the purpose of the newsgroups if we have to subscribe? correct me if I am wrong,

I'm on it LOL.

Puttabong 02-16-2008 09:57 PM

I personally don't like the Idea either.

FTP -> Torrent -> Newsgroups -> Public Backup Storage (like esnips)

Why not like that? There are better ways to spread the image to the public!

WinLinMac01 02-16-2008 10:02 PM

is there anyway the newsgroups can later become available in torrent format, or is it not possible? seems like Zephyroth is going to be leaving on his system for a pretty long time, how pointless is that, save your time zephyroth and please use uTorrent to create a torrent and upload online so we all can download at the same time, thanks.

demigodz 02-16-2008 10:03 PM

Why Newsgroups? Because we can test it faster because of the high download speed from newsgroup servers!

the beta tester have only the 10.5.1 RC2 :)

WinLinMac01 02-16-2008 10:16 PM

you're right, seeing everyone logged into the forums just to get the "go." Seeing megaargon online just makes me laugh even more...probably throwing a party in the backyard, IMAO
Have a virtual party with @megaargon

edit:
one of the administrators deleted our posts about the upload speeds 1207FX, took it too seriously as well, LOL

Updated: you're right, , but seems like our comments are being censored, LOL

Puttabong :D

1207FX 02-16-2008 10:17 PM

someone nameless has cleaned us up it seems winlinmac (that is funny puttabong) lol you know he loves doing that :)

(stopped posting stupid text, didnt know lol)

Puttabong 02-16-2008 10:23 PM

Feel free to keep on posting guys, just try not to overheat the server, lol :)

roisoft 02-16-2008 10:31 PM

Hey puttabong, there´s something in the air, ....lol

Puttabong 02-16-2008 10:33 PM

:D

That's true! ;)

WinLinMac01 02-16-2008 10:43 PM

Huh???

StealthMode 02-16-2008 10:45 PM

If this was Bestbuy we'd all look retarded....tents and all :o

laxattack 02-16-2008 10:51 PM

though that would be a fun time! lol

StealthMode 02-16-2008 10:55 PM

For sure :D smores anyone?

megaargon1 02-16-2008 10:56 PM

"Fire"wall anyone?

WinLinMac01 02-16-2008 10:58 PM

yeah...its cold where I am, need some of that fire, LOL , sitting outside of the server room, waiting for Zephyroth's image to be uploaded onto the torrents.

How much longer? I'm feeling it too.

WinLinMac01 02-16-2008 11:12 PM

I found this cool software called bitlet.org (locates zephyroth's image's metafile and downloads the whole image as if you were downloading the file straight from its main source (website).

StealthMode 02-16-2008 11:17 PM

Interesting

laxattack 02-16-2008 11:22 PM

slow speeds with that by the way

WinLinMac01 02-16-2008 11:31 PM

ohhh...:-p is there any update with 10.5.2 yet? I just noticed that Zephroth changes the forum name to Zephyroth Leopard 10.5.2 "AMD," and made a new category for discussion called 10.5.2.

Skyper 02-17-2008 12:01 AM

Good news. Anyways I won't bother downloading because of my chipset as last time it wouldnt boot after install.

chavonbravo 02-17-2008 12:56 AM

what newsgroup, alt.binaries.mac??

laxattack 02-17-2008 01:08 AM

you know in all my years of computing i have never used newsgroups how do i?

cgsheen 02-17-2008 01:22 AM

I'll wait for the torrent. DL thousands of pieces from a newsgroup is a PITA. If the news servers suck there are always missing pieces.

Puttabong 02-17-2008 01:42 AM

laxattack, neither have I ;)

---

Cleaned up all these rumours, you should only pay attention to zephyroth's declarations, if you want to rely on the truth.

:D

WinLinMac01 02-17-2008 01:51 AM

Haven't seen Zephyroth in the vicinity for some time. Is he asleep right now? What is the status of the upload???

cgsheen 02-17-2008 02:10 AM

Sorry, I'm "spilling the beans" - I just stumbled across the upload

alt.binaries.mac.cd-images

for those of you who haven't discovered it already.

It's yEnc so what do I use as a newsgroup reader? MS Entourage won't decode yEnc will it?

On my news server it's up to "part019.rar" there are 154 segments in each "part"... Haven't seen how many total "parts" - 10.5.1 was 72, wasn't it? Probably more than that...

WinLinMac01 02-17-2008 02:11 AM

subsonic, I believe told me about Newsgroup Commando,

WinLinMac01 02-17-2008 02:13 AM

can't configure nor get list through alt.binaries.mac.cd-images

When is the torrent going to appear? Any idea?

1207FX 02-17-2008 02:13 AM

Zeph has been editing/adding info about the upload status in the first of his post this discussion

14/73

WinLinMac01 02-17-2008 02:20 AM

is this for the torrent or for the newsgroup?
How big is each part on average? I see there are 73 parts.

What is your upload speed? Please let us know, thanks.

Are you periodically updating your first post to let us know how many parts have been uploaded thus far?

Quote:

[cite] zephyroth:[/cite]The installation works fine on my system except the "temacs crash".
If the installation takes time in the last minute its because it does a "diskutil repairPermissions" on the install partition.
I've added the SystemProfiler fix (SPPlatformReporter, SPiPlatformReporter, SPMemoryReporter) and replace "translate" from 10.5.2 with the one from 10.5.1 (multiple crash with multiple apps).
The extensions folder in the DVD has been deleted.
What is your upload speed?

I will write a howto to add kexts in the DVD (if you need to).

Don't blame me if it doesn't work on your system. It takes time just to make it stable on mine ...

Further updates will be ppf or mpkg files.

Parts uploaded : 14/73

Newsgroups aren't hard. I've never used them but I managed to find the upload as well.

First you want to verify you have usenet access...I'd first check to see what your ISP offers, though chances are it's slow and a tiny bandwidth limit.
You can obtain it from several places pretty cheaply (I got 20gb or 30 days for $10)
I choose Easynews but like I said I signed up today so I'm unsure how they compare - seemed like a fair price and decent reviews. I make no warranties or claims - I've also heard of GIganews and Usenext. Know nothing about them.

Next you need a client. Some mail clients handle binary downloads better than others. I'm actually using a trial of Forte Agent. It seemed pretty complicated to me at first but I'm figuring it out. I've downloaded 18 parts already...

Anybody that has more experience can probably help more. I just wanted to help someone get started. I didn't think it would work out but...yay initiative!

WinLinMac01 02-17-2008 02:40 AM

How many parts have been uploaded so far? 18gb? Who will be uploading the torrent file, and when will it be available?
I tried using Newsgroup commando, but I can't access the link alt.binaries.mac.cd-images. Any other ways? Thanks.

While Zephyroth is still offline from this forum, can somebody please take his place for now and give us a periodic status at how many parts are left? Thank you.

revhawk 02-17-2008 02:44 AM

I have through part 19 downloaded.

It looks like 20, 21, and 22 are currently being uploaded in pieces.

Note that that might just be what my usenet server is providing me - he could be farther along - I am not an expert!
