is there a specific way to save an install log or do I need to type everything as it it goes by?
Sorry for being so obnoxious about my problem, but in the end, this will help with people who have similar problems. Thanks for all the help so far. |
@ikari77889
while you are installing, you can view the install log via one of the menu items (not sure which one at the moment). Try to save it that way. Also, I think it should be saved somewhere on your drive, but not sure where. @lungkao wow man. sweet! is your system recognizing all 6GB of RAM? I thought there was a problem going over 4GB? |
@lungkao
Post your specs in the thread <a href="http://www.infinitemac.com/discussion/1319/lawlessppc-phenom-amd-1054-beta-poll-yes-it-works/#Item_4">LawlessPPC-Phenom-Amd-10.5.4-Beta-Poll-YES-It-Works</a>. Great feedback will help propel this forward from its BETA version. Thanks. |
@nfoav8r
thanks for your continued support. The ALC888 problem seems to be becoming aparent what i would like to know for this is which did they try to install from dvd and which have they sucessfully install after install. Also if they get a kext not installed properly on boot Thanx LawlessPPC |
the 4gb memory problem as far as I know is only present on NForce boards. Correct me if I'm wrong?
|
@Lungkao
any chance of a screen shot of system monitor showing them cores |
LawlessPPC
@ the system information, it show number of cores: 5 ???? should be 8 but how to get in to "system monitor"? how to paste the screen shot? |
nfoav8or:
yes, both vista x64 and leopart detected my 6GB of ram in "about mac" for windows, if you have more than 3GB of ram, you must run 64 bit of OS to detected all the ram. but I'm not sure about apple :), I'm just new to apple |
lungkao
Sorry its called activity monitor it is applications/utilites. just up it to image shack and post link |
Is it worth to try with SB700 southbridge?
|
Hi all
i'm having problems installing this version... Amd Phenom 9750 MB ABIT AX78 with Chipsets AMD 770/ SB600 RAM Corsair XMS2 DDR2 2Gb (2x1Gb) PC6400C4DHX GeForce 8800 GT Alpha Dog Edition randomly i can run the initial setup (sometimes it just hangs after loading the kexts) and after it says "calculing remaining time" i see a yellow sign and a message telling me that the os couldn't be installed... i tried all switches in any ways, but it's always the same any ideas?? |
@waiflith
did you verify the burning of the DVD sound like bad media to me @Markastor Everythings worth a try!!!! Please let me know how you go on L8rs LawlessPPC |

@lungkao
no. I only see one core. In my activity window, I know it is recognizing both cores because it shows me two core activity windows. <img src="http://www.grabup.com/uploads/c1f5654e28d749925de16da30d9652d8.png"> |
nfoav8
how come my show only 1 core? when I have 8 core? my mobo recognizing 8 in bios |
check your com.apple.boot.plist in Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and let me know if any boot flags (kernel flags) are set.
Have you run <a href="http://www.xbench.com/">Xbench</a> yet? Is the speed noticeable? I am not sure why it isn't recognizing it. I know the Mac Pro can have 8 cores (two quad cores) but they are Intel Xeon. I'm just guessing that they are all working just fine but not showing. OS X doesn't always look at your BIOS to tell it what it has available... if at all. try booting with <b>cpus=8</b> ;-) just for a laugh. |
Oh by the way - there seem to be problem with SB chipset support on the install DVD - anyone having this chipset, i recommend putting kexts into Extensions folder on image before burning it. This install seem to work faster than my previous 10.5.2
And if i can ask - i know that new relase is being prepared. I wonder what will be the main changes ? |
@taisto
dont just post unnecesary advice like that. This problem please tell me what it is. Which SB chipset is it? L8rs LawlessPPC |
just to show mine with 4 cores

@Taisto
Thankyou for responce If i was a user and I didnt know it was SB400 and I had SB600 I probably wouldnt have bothered. Now I know what needs to be fixed for next release. I appreciate the response. Thanx LawlessPPC |
@waiflih
what software are you using to burn. Look for options verify after burning. How old is your dvdv writer it may be burning fine but reading badly. Do you smoke (I do)? Its the worst thing you can do near an optical drive (tar on lens). L8rs LawlessPPC |
Quote:
no, i dont smoke, its the worst thing you can do (not only near an optical drive) first time i use nero 7, and then brasero, with both i got the same result... may this be a hdd problem?? mmm i'm gonna try to get another dvd drive to test... about the age of the writer... dont know exactly, but it can burn double layer dvds, so it's not so old |
@waiflih
anychance of an install log. This would give the answers. To get one go to menus at top show log. then tell it all not just errors and got to file save as |
@everyone
if you have an unsucessfull install please post your install log. I have one here infront of me and they are very revealing @Waiflih Why doesnt you install work??? well according to your log your have no idea at all how to install OSX this is not an attack but you should read a little on how to do it. Try the OSX86 wiki. Your problems are I dont beleieve you have run disk utility to prepare the hardrive or you have specifically told it to partition and format as Fat32 (i beleive this is why permissions fail) 2nd you have selected everything selectable to install every graphics card driver, every soundcard driver, every chipset driver etc. This does not run like a windows install it is far smarter than that and you have some control. I really appreciate the fact you sent the log. Now you have an answer and I'm not just guessing. p.s. according to the date of log file April 1976 you need to change date in bios as this can have effects not 100% with MacOSX but I know it can effect other software Thanx LawlessPPC |
i just select all the options to see a complete log...
so, fat32 doesn't work?? xD the disk utility fails to set the partition as mac fs, but when it is in fat32 allows me to continue the install.... it there another program to format the partition ?? and thanx for all, i know a lot of linux and windows, but in this i'm almost a total newbie ^^ |
@waiflih
perhaps its how the drive was pepared in the first place is it a name brand system thats used some utility to prevent partition change???? If so use some drive tools form manufacturer eg seagate tools etc to wipe drive first. Then Osx should deal with it first L8rs LawlessPPC |
Hello,
Just installed LawlessPPC 10.5.4 and it works awesome. One thing that is bugging me is the when i right click an application in the dock that says "Assign Application to ===> TEMP" I have no idea what this is and its a annoyance. What is it? how do i remove it? |
Solid release (and it's a beta!). My results are in the Yes <a href="http://www.infinitemac.com/discussion/1319">thread</a>.
Issues with my HP m9100z (Phenom, MCP61 nForce 430, 8400GS G98): >Included forcedeth was never loaded (as in 'kextstat') >Downloaded <a href="http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=12933">forcedeth 0.3</a> instantly hangs on kextload with some bus conflicts, requiring reset...using a tulip PCI for now. >QE/CI is supported after adding GPU Device/Vendor ID to three kext 'Info.plist' files. Can this be added upstream? >Audio driver package dependency was unclear during install; sound preferences are also unclear - all 4 outputs are named 'Line Out.' >Sleep: Can't wake up; reset required. >Boot takes >90 seconds after countdown until Dock slides up; system.log excerpt is attached. >Xbench 'Disk Test' score is extremely low; this install gets a whole WD Raptor. Results are attached. >lspci output is attached here and in the Yes thread |
Hey,
Wondering if this will work or not. I am going to try it anyways. Please look here for the output from PC Wizard, I've highlighted things to note, specifically that my chipset is an AMD 790FX, with sb600 IPX and a Marvell. PC Wizard - Pastebin info Take a look and let me know if anything is specific I have to do than choosing the proper kernels and patches.. I am already assuming it'll be a modbin 9.4 kernel (not sure if there are others).. Also, I'm installed Kalyway 10.5.2, and the first time I did it, there was no problem detecting my onboard sound-card: (Device Audio : IXP SB600 High Definition Audio Controller).. its a soundmax in windows.. but later installs it would not detect it.. not sure what I changed.. i don't think i did.. anyways.. I hope this will be enough for you. Thank you so much for your work. -DjHash P.S. Will be downloading it tonight and seeding week on nights.. (EST) |
Hi, i'm new here.. i'm still downloading :)
oh yeah.. about the sb600, i guess you can set AHCI mode in the bios.. it should work fine, once mac installed you can load the sb600 kext. it works for me with 10.5.1 ( only with SATA hard drive pair with SATA DVD drive ) since i upgraded to phenom, i havent try updating to 10.5.2 or 10.5.3 guess i'm gonna try the lawlessppc's 10.5.4 now ;p my system is: MSI K9A2 Platinum V1 AMD Phenom 9550 ATI 3850 512 mb 2 gb DDR2 |
finally it works!!!!!
:D now i'm searching for audio and lan drivers...and a usb keyboard xD |
downloading it now, thanks for releasing this.
i wonder anyone sucessful installing lawlessPPC Phenom & AMD 10.5.4 on a 780G system or a nv8200 system? is it fine as long it is a sb700 mobo?? another question: will it support the sb750 chipset also? |
@waiflih congrats keep posting
@exia im not 100% of whats supported thats why I need ppls responses |
Finally work. wao!!! , Thanks LawlessPPC and all team , took me around 40 minutes to install.
Audio works with azalia Graphics QE don't work work with 1 CPU I feel the system is something slow, maybe the IDE driver is very old Thanks Prudenth |

Hi,
i'm new to Macs. I used my gf's macbook several times and I feel really bad that I cannot answer any of her questions in regards to OS X. I need to change the situation :) wondering if it's possible to make it run on my machine: AMD Phenom 9850 BE @ 2.9Ghz ASUS Crosshair II Formula nForce 780a G.SKILL 2x2GB DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) XFX GeForce GTX260 HT OMEGA STRIKER 7.1 Seagate 750GB SATA (winxp here) Samsung 40Gb SATA (free) Samsung 250Gb PATA (free) when I first tried to run installation DVD i had errors with firewire. turned it off in bios. then I had problems with USB. It said that something's not happening in 5 secs. I unplugged all usb devices, but keyboard and mouse. and after this line: Extension "com.apple.driver.iTunesPhoneDriver" has no explicit kernel dependency; using version 6.0 if freezes and says: Still waiting for root device. i found somewhere that it's a problem with not recognizing SATA HDD. I tried running with all three, two and just one HDD. same problem. then I found solution somewhere that I must have PATA DVD and HDD running on one cable. My DVD burner is SATA, so I borrowed one from my friend. dvd - master, hdd - slave gave no changes. dvd - slave, hdd - master added one more line: Extension "com.apple.driver.iTunesPhoneDriver" has no explicit kernel dependency; using version 6.0 AppleUSBOHCI [0x6e36000]::CheckSleepCapability OHCI controller will be unloaded across sleep and again : Still waiting for root device. my HDD is FAT32 with 100Gb in primary partition any ideas? |
Enable AHCI in the BIOS for your SATA drives. What southbridge does your MB use? Is it an SB600 or SB700 (like my 780G motherboards...) I have OSx86 running on 2 780G machines - 1 with a Phenom, 1 with an A64 X2.
I doubt that your video card will have anything but VESA support. |
just tried to enable AHCI.. didn't work for me..
780G NB is for ATI graphics. mine is 780a - nForce. and my SB is nForce 780a SLI MCP |
Hey Guys,
This week I installed LawlessPPCPhenomLeo (10.5.4) and when I run ASU to upgrade to 10.5.5 it gets stuck in "Detecting cpuids for MacOSXUpd 10.5.5.pkg". I even let it alone for a couple of hours in this state to see if it works eventually, but didn't. If anyone knows what's happening here I will appreciate your help! Regards! |
Also updated with ASU to iTunes 8 and Quicktime 7.5.5. iTunes works fine, but everytime I try to open a video file quicktime crashes. If I open it from the app folder it opens well, but as soon as I drag a file to it crashes again.
Any clues? |
Hey Guys
I am attempting to download Lawless' disk the usual way;) and my "U" is optimized and running properly, yet it says its gonna take like 2-3 days to download....Anyone have any suggestions for how I can make this go faster? Please pm me if you have any thoughts.
Thanks in advance. Endgame |
@ Bentaner
no chipset driver for your motherboard in this release |
All running fine after:
ATI3870: DVD drivers did not work, removed kexts and installed lastexiles drivers. IDE HHD / SB600 chipset: This is the only distro allowing me to boot with my sb600 setup. But after installing the gfx driver, my hdd becomes really slow, so i had to install different sb600 drivers. |
hello, just got my copy of LawlessPPC dvd, pop it , and i got this error of : still waiting for root device..
it's about my HDD right ? this is my system : AMD Athlon X2 BE 5000 J&W RS780UVD-AM2+ (780G chipset) http://www.jwele.com/motherboard_detail.php?225 (with SB700) 1x WDC 320gb SATA II 1x SEAGATE 250GB IDE 1x LG DVDRW IDE Geforce 9600GSO 384MB i tried with 1 HD frst (the sata one) , trying AHCI & Native IDE but still got "still waiting for root device" then i tried with only IDE HD but still got the same error is there any exception for DVDRW & my IDE HD on the same cable ? or should i use my SATA HD for better performance? yes, i've tried with -x , but still no luck. at first i thought it was a USB error, because the last message was : "AppleUSBOHCI ... bla bla bla ... OHCI controller will be unloaded across sleep" but then comes along "still waiting for root device" any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks |
oky. it seems that my SB700 is the problem (lawlessppc didn;t have sb700 driver i guess) but i found this sb700kext http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=126273
*edited* okay imanaged to inject the file using TransMac .. unfortunetelly sata didn;t work for me , so i go IDE instead. voila! installer showed up. everything installs just fine .. took about 20-30 mins at least. reboot and there;s this error Grey Circle with line (how to describe that?) on top of grey apple logo. the spinning circle keeps spinneing and nothing happens .. using -v at boot it reintroduced me to still waiting for root device ... eh? i thought the installer worked just fine ? what's wrong? ... |
Coool! with transmac, injecting sb700 chipset has never been easier, (why didn;t i look at that place first??)
anyway, progress so far with LawlessPPC: SB700 ok, Processors recognized dual core, HD ide recognized, DVD rom recognized, USB full speed -- 9600GSO still working as software no QE no CE, SATA HD not recognized but i will look for more! thanks ! |
