Kernel Crash

I pretty sure this crash has already been documented, but I can't seem to find the answer...
sorry!
I installed the latest image with both patches applied succesfully.
Everything installs fine, and runs ok. Network is ok once nforce.kext is installed.

But. The probelm i'm getting is a kernel crash when I download VLC and as soon as it tries to mount image it fails.

I'm quite sure it's to do with mounting images, and i'm sure i've read a fix for this somewhere, If anyone could just help me out, I would be very grateful!!

Thanks

Elvirana 01-08-2009 03:26 PM

Ok last question before i burn the dvd:
Wich graphics driver should i choose from?
because i cant find it and i dont want to choose the wrong one.

lanceomni 01-08-2009 03:53 PM

Don't choose any. If you don't choose one you will end up with default graphics but you will be able to boot into OSX and have a nice interface to work with.

You can then hunt for the correct driver and install after the fact.

Elvirana 01-08-2009 04:09 PM

Ok, i will start now.
Thanks for the help and advice.

btw, i should choose nforce and VIA for the chipset?

Sorry that i ask so much.

if you're using vanilla kernel, i don't know. if you;re using voodoo kernel, then you might want to install applesmbios.kext:

Does the System Profiler show all hardware information about your CPU and so? There's an error on my system. What do you have for a system, do you have AMD or Intel? What kernel are you using, 9.5.0 or 9.6.0. Plz add your system specs in your signature.

I have updated my signature with my system specs.
The system profiler show all information about my system after installing some kext for my motherboard and my sound card, nothing more.
My graphic card work perfectly with EFI strings.
About This Mac show an unknown processor working at 4 ghz (mine work at 3ghz).
I have get rid of this wrong information with a pkg named AboutThisMac.pkg . But i don't remember where i put this pkg on my hard drive... Maybe on a Jas release disc.

First time at installing!

Hey everyone.. just like to let you guys know that this release looks GREAT! and kudos to the people behind it!

I was just wandering is my system fine to run this specific release? and is my graphics card supported?

Cheers,
Fman

Internet Success!! except that..

well i've gotten LAN for my MCP61 Lan. but i've got a problem.. when i installed this nForce Kext sleep mode doesn't work for me anymore. I am running 9.6.0 XNU kernel, AMD, iPC 10.5.6, and 8500 gt graphics.

thz.

So I think I discovered part of why my computer was restarting. I have the MSI P43 Neo3-F with an E7300 Core 2 Duo and it looks like the version of the Chameleon that ships on the iPC DVD and the iAtkos DVD seem to instantly reboot. I thought that it had to do with a kext or something, but after installing it using iDeneb 1.3 I tried to use the EFI strings for the graphics card and used OSX86 Tools to reinstall Chameleon and it started doing the instant reboot thing.
So my guess is that PC EFI v9 will work on my system, but not Chameleon. Maybe the next revision of Chameleon will work, I really hope so.

terrorgen 01-09-2009 05:54 PM

With voodoo kernel I entered the blue screen with one mouse cursor on the top left corner and another that I can move it with my mouse. So I thought it was the decrypt problem and deleted appledecrypt.kext (I have a 10.5.5 installation on another harddisk)

Now it it wouldn't boot into GUI. In verbose mode I can type letters into it but it just did nothing after loading for some time.

AppleDecrypt.kext is needed to load the GUI, as loginwindow.app, Finder.app, Dock.app and any other Apple binaries are protected and encrypted, and you can't use a hacked kernel with Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext (which is what does the decrypting on a retail installation and only Apple stock vanilla kernel can work with this kext as far as I know, as there have been reports of "retail" hacks not needing an OSx86 decryptor).

The graphics issue you have is with a graphics driver or drivers, and maybe even an injector as well.

terrorgen 01-09-2009 06:06 PM

so shall I delete Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext instead? I read about replacing it with dsmos.kext, is it OK to do it?

I tried copying Natit.kext from my 10.5.5 but it doesn't work either (in fact I didn't see it loaded)

You don't have to delete it, the Voodoo kernel automatically blacklists and blocks that kext from loading.

Use AppleDecrypt, as it's the fastest out of all the OSx86 decryptors.

Natit is oldschool. Try NVkush, NVinject or NVdarwin instead, as these are all vastly more updated injectors than Natit, Titan, or MacVidia.

terrorgen 01-09-2009 06:19 PM

thanks Hara Taiki... I will try it later

Aren't they for NVidia cards only?

gipo 01-09-2009 11:41 PM

I'm sorry... i tried to install this great release but no fortune...
I upgraded the iso with both PPF and selected all i think was right for my HW, but on reboot i had an ACPI error, and panic. Tried three times at the moment, with and without graphics, with voodoo's 9.5 and seatbelt, is someone so kind to give me a right to what is best to select for my hardware... please. Thanks in advance to all of you working on this dream.

nVidia only is right. Although, he never specified what card he had.

EternalEmpty 01-10-2009 07:08 AM

yes .. it was the default kernel

terrorgen 01-10-2009 07:34 AM

well, as a matter of fact, I did. It's in my sig.

Anyways, I finally got 10.5.6 running on my Hackintosh. Everything is up and running. Only one thing: My two IDE optical drives are not detected.

How can I get this fixed? is there something to do with AppleVIAATA.kext?

Thanks, I have fix it up by installing ToH version, and it works ok. just can't read the version of the CPU ..so I guess it is not a big deal ..

at least now ..it is not crashing any more

pinchio 01-10-2009 09:11 PM

Hey All,

I got 10.5.6 up and running on my Gateway. The issue now is that I only selected the bare essentials to get this far after several failed attempts.

This is my first "tosh" so I'm not sure how I would install drivers for the remaining bits. So could someone point me in the right direction.

The pieces that aren't detected are...

ATI Radeon X1800
Linksys Wifi card (PCI) WMP54G

A little help would be appreciated. And please don't assume I know any special Mac lingo or parlance.

Thanks

zyph3r 01-10-2009 10:24 PM

Nice distro with a lots of options.. But maybe its a little too much confusing for the begginers IMO

Where is this HDA Enabler and how do I correct the permissions?...
Do I do this on the installed system or do I do a clean install???

Forgot to mention that I'm a noob :D

On installed system, google for HDAEnabler.kext and install the kext using Kext Helper (it will fix perfimissions for you)

He dudes,

Something nice happened. I installed Zepthyroth Leopard 10.5.2. Then with AMD software update i did update to 10.5.6.

After reboot -f. And voila. No kernel update or something like that first. Still using Darwin 9.2.0.

My system:

AMD 3800
Nvidia 6600 LE
Asus motherboard a8n-e

Well, tnx for trying but I installed it and it does not work,I still get
"No output devices found"...

I'd really appreciate any other ideas :P

terrorgen 01-12-2009 10:35 AM

Thanks Hara Taiki, my hackintosh is running in full glory with Voodoo 9.5 kernel...

...EXCEPT...

- System Information shows that I have 1 of 2 cores turned on. I would like both cores working.

- None of my two optical drives are detected, which are IDEs
(I have an old IOATAFamily.kext with me which I used to patch older versions of Leopard, not sure if it is going to work either, but is there a newer way to do it?)

- VMware Fusion is still having KP while starting VMs, even when I feed the boot prompt with kernel=mach_kernel, heard it is because of the RAMs? I have 4G.

- iPhone is not mounting properly. It shows in iTunes, syncs for a second and then disappears. However it still shows in SysInfo.

hi! i tried installing ipc public beta (patched) on a gigagbyte p35-ds3r, but am having difficulties making the ethernet adapter work.

it installed without any problems at first, them i noticed the network card doest detect the network, and some other little things.

will try to re-install again with different configurations and see what happens :)

Do you have wireless? If so, you can run install and run OSx86 Tools.app and then click "Download and Install Hardware Drivers", it will detect what your network card is and download then install the right driver.

gnalc 01-14-2009 09:47 AM

no, i don't have wireless, but that was a nice tip! i will attempt to try it in the future when i get to play with hardware that has wireless :)

i managed to sucessfully install ipc 10.5.6 (with the 2 patches) last night, and everything was working. but, i had problems when i tried running some pro apps.
things don't work the way they should have been working.

also, had problems enabling quartz extreme (even using osx86 tools didn't work), so i resulted to removing nvkush, and using nvinject instead.

after that, i tried installing vmaware fusion 2.0 beta but it doesnt allow me to finish installation :c

now i'm back to kalyway 10.5.2 while i'm investigating maybe i have faulty hardware. i will attempt to do a fresh install of ipc later tonight. will post my findings :)

gigabyte p35 ds3r
intel q8450
4gb ddr 800 corsair xms

gnalc 01-14-2009 03:27 PM

ok, this is what i have so far.

installed ipc 10.5.6
vanilla kernel
intel ich10
jmicron ata (although i dont think this makes a difference)
nvkush

everything worked okay, tried installing the sound but that didnt work, so i used pcwiz' Gigabyte GA-(E)P35-DS3X Control Center to try and install the audio driver and ethernet driver (that didnt work from the ipc 10.5.6 installer)

after the reboot, the sound was working but the network card still isn't :(

is there any way that i can get it working? everything else seems to be working now (still investigating)

edit:
i just found out that the dvd player app keeps on crashing when you try to play anything. any leads?

What happened to the ATI x1800xl driver support?

Can you please add driver support for this card.

Currently I'm only getting one resolution 1024x768.

Sorry for any inconvenience!

pinchio 01-16-2009 03:51 PM

It would be great if you could include a driver for the Radeon x1800xl card

Would you happen to have a driver for radeon x1800xl for this release? I have 10.5.6. installed with only the graphics card being the last issue.

The system profiler does not show any PCIe cards however the graphic display profile shows the correct device (0x7109) and vendor ids (0x1002).

I'm really pulling my hair out trying various methods to get this to show other resolutions. Currently it only displays at 1024x768.

Thanks

SB600 Support

hooray for PPF3 :)
i hope the sb600 support is full this time.. because i have a leo4all install and my hack boots so slow due to "iokitwaitquiet issue" and no matter what i have done i can't burn my dvd's at proper speeds.. toast and disco recognizes media as it should but when it comes to burning, it burns constantly at 1x. this is annoying because i am burning dvd's regularly:'( i will try tomorrow and i will report my experiences with the release.. thank you for sparing your time on this distros;)

Ok. I had a 8600GT previously I used an EFI string with that, but that time I also had some drivers installed, the 9f9 package from nvinstaller.com. Is there some sort of graphics driver package for the 9600GT or 9xxx series in general that I could use with my EFI string?

i had this as well, but i the issue got solved there:

last ipc release went fine for me (sb 600, but installing from usb stick).

hope is a lie

i tried with all of my knowledge and did what you said to do about this distro to make it install on my machine, but whatever i tried doesn't work.. still getting same stupid error:
still waiting for root device!!
please add "REAL" support for sb600 and please make it work on second partition. my details on my sig

and fyi: i applied ppf's respectively and everytime i patch the iso i checked the md5.
burned at 2x and verified with nero..
may i suggest you to look at the leo4allv4.1, because only that distro installs on my machine without any errors.. but i'm looking forward to some distro with "REAL" sb600 support, i hope you can manage to add this to future releases.
thank you

cmdshft 01-18-2009 02:56 AM

There may never be "real" SB600 support because it's such a shitty chipset (it's ATI, which is owned by AMD... bleh).

We have looked at Leo4All, bhast2 has helped us with numerous stuff, which we are greatfull for.

The only thing I can think of is checking your BIOS settings. There could be a setting which is what's causing you your issues.

cnone 01-18-2009 12:40 PM

don't get me wrong, i am grateful too, just want to report an issue, where can i find proper bios settings, what settings should be used? i am setting sata to ahci mode, plug and play os to yes what should i change other than these?

iPC OSx86 Public Beta PPF4

THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE LAST PPF TO IPC PUBLIC BETA. NO PACKAGES CAN BE ADDED ANYMORE (ONLY ABOUT 4MB FREE SPACE ON THE DISC) AND I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO FIX DVD BOOT ERRORS

PLEASE APPLY PPF1 2 AND 3 BEFORE APPLYING THIS PPF4

MD5 of PPF4 Patched ISO: a702367d23d9b3374df19ace88a9fb08

Changelog

* Reverted to older Extensions.mkext to fix some boot time problems (this may or may not fix your problems so don’t get your hopes up too high)

* Added vanilla 9.5.0 kernel for boot. To boot using the vanilla kernel at the DVD F8 boot prompt type “vanilla”

* Added single user mode OSx86 Tools. Go to Single user mode (-s) after installing, mount your drive (mount -uw /) and run one of these commands to do things (the command is the “/usr/bin/*” part):

/usr/bin/install_efi - Reinstalls an EFI bootloader to the partition

/usr/bin/remove_ati_gfx - Backup and remove default OS X ATI kexts

/usr/bin/remove_intel_gfx - Backup and remove default OS X Intel kexts

/usr/bin/remove_nvidia_gfx - Backup and remove default NVIDIA kexts

/usr/bin/repair_permissions - Repairs permissions on the drive (*NOTE*: this may not work properly from single user mode due to the DiskArbitration framework not being loaded)

/usr/bin/rm_applesetupdone - Rerun the Apple Setup Assistant on startup

/usr/bin/rm_bad_kexts - Removes some “bad” kexts (AppleHWSensor, AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement, AppleEFIRuntime)

/usr/bin/touch_applesetupdone - Fix for Setup Assistant loop

And that’s about it! Again, this is the last PPF, THERE IS NO MORE ROOM TO ADD ANYTHING!! iPC OSx86 Final LiveDVD edition is coming out soon, which is basically iPC PPF4 with a LiveDVD base. After a lot of slimming this LiveDVD edition is still single layer (4.36GB) All the languages have been removed from the final iPC to get more room for the LiveDVD component, but the languages will be available separate.
