I agree. 10.5.1 worked flawlessly on my system until "I" caused it to purposely crash, because of Zephyroth's next release that is currently being uploaded .

[cite] Puttabong:[/cite]lol LohnenNicht, zephyroth's releases work perfect on almost every AMD machine. All you need is a little Brain to tweak it according to your hardware.

you don't mind sharing your account information with us, right? I can give you can e-mail address to PM too, you know. :D

It looks like 20, 21, and 22 are currently being uploaded in pieces.

Note that that might just be what my usenet server is providing me - he could be farther along - I am not an expert!

[cite] revhawk:[/cite]Newsgroups aren't hard. I've never used them but I managed to find the upload as well.

First you want to verify you have usenet access...I'd first check to see what your ISP offers, though chances are it's slow and a tiny bandwidth limit.
You can obtain it from several places pretty cheaply (I got 20gb or 30 days for $10)
I choose Easynews but like I said I signed up today so I'm unsure how they compare - seemed like a fair price and decent reviews. I make no warranties or claims - I've also heard of GIganews and Usenext. Know nothing about them.

Next you need a client. Some mail clients handle binary downloads better than others. I'm actually using a trial of Forte Agent. It seemed pretty complicated to me at first but I'm figuring it out. I've downloaded 18 parts already...

Anybody that has more experience can probably help more. I just wanted to help someone get started. I didn't think it would work out but...yay initiative!
I'm also new into this, just like you but here is my little "tutorial" to get things working (PC users only, don't know about MAC users)

1 - Download one program called GrabIt at "http://www.shemes.com"
2 - Go to "http://astinews.de/xtest" and put your e-mail there to receive an server username and pass to connect to usenet (it is a free account but will do the job)
3 - Check your e-mail and take note of your Reader, Username and Password that you received from astinews
4 - Install GrabIt and use the infos from astinews to start usenet
5 - Inside GrabIt, go to GrabIt Usenet Search and search for "alt.binaries.mac.cd-images" and add it to your list...
6 - After that, still in GrabIt go to Articles and at the end of the list you'll see the files to download... just right click them and "Grab Selected Articles"

If you have questions, go to mIRC... There you'll find a lot of good people that helped me with all this...

WinLinMac01 02-17-2008 02:49 AM

Thanks, by the way, what is your current download speed?

1207FX 02-17-2008 03:03 AM

I have an account for usenet, so is this uploaded on usenet

WinLinMac01 02-17-2008 03:07 AM

Grabit Says that I have reached my search limit(s) for the day. What's up with that? Any other alternative available?

WinLinMac01 02-17-2008 03:08 AM

If you want to download via torrent you'll have to wait a little more... If you want it in the next 10 hours (more or less) you must try usenet

compaqdrew 02-17-2008 03:13 AM

Torrents shouldn't take that long. I'm on an OC192 and am willing to seed...

Puttabong 02-17-2008 03:13 AM

It took me about 10 minutes to download the first 23 parts using Usenet. ;)

WinLinMac01 02-17-2008 03:19 AM

can somebody please make an account for me? i made a new email called [email protected] if somebody can please place my email address in http://astinews.de/xtest and have my info emailed to me that would greatly appreciate it. DoiX 02-17-2008 03:22 AM

newsrover found it near the dock 'O the bay

WinLinMac01 02-17-2008 03:49 AM

newsbin I tried, but not all of the results were displayed. some lagging

cgsheen 02-17-2008 03:55 AM

Looks like my news server is up to part 28, but I still can't find a newsreader that'll do yEnc and stay connected to my server...

WinLinMac01 02-17-2008 04:02 AM

cgsheen can you confirm if the first file is 28mb?

1207FX 02-17-2008 04:02 AM

Xnews is free and I am downloading

WinLinMac01 02-17-2008 04:05 AM

why is part 29 12mb only?

WinLinMac01 02-17-2008 04:07 AM

i'm using newsbin, but don't know where the 29 files are downloading, lol. help please if possible, thanks

delian7 02-17-2008 04:28 AM

I am totally confused. Where's an Idiot's guide to usenet when you need one. Lol.

I created an account in http://astinews.de/xtest. I then download a bunch of programs like Newsbin Pro, UsenetGrab, Binjet, and Grabit. Couldn't get any program to work with it. I then found a free newserver called Dissenter (http://www.disenter.com) and I couldn't get any program to work with that as welll. I know I am doing something wrong, so if anyone out there has anything for me I would really appreciate it. If not, I will just have to wait for the torrents (something I can actually download :) And if some people think that I am just writing this because I am too lazy to look this up, I am not, I have looked for this for about 3 hrs.

Thanks, A lot to everyone and thanks goes to you Zeph for finishing your masterpiece.

WinLinMac01 02-17-2008 04:39 AM

UPDATE: 30 parts are uploaded thus far in total
where are my files downloaded? to what directory?

1207FX 02-17-2008 04:46 AM

there should be a default folder they are saved to, by the newsreader prog. I have tried 3 so far and grabit it haulinass it is much easier than the others

Please dont think I can help, I am flying by the seat of my pants as the rest of you are, I mean I just got used to using torrent clients lolol

WinLinMac01 02-17-2008 04:48 AM

30 parts buddy

ZEPHYORTH, can you also list the file sizes for each part as you upload them? I just to make sure that I am downloading the actual file(S). THanxs or if someone else wants to help please do so. :D

Quote:

[cite] zephyroth:[/cite]The installation works fine on my system except the "temacs crash".
If the installation takes time in the last minute its because it does a "diskutil repairPermissions" on the install partition.
I've added the SystemProfiler fix (SPPlatformReporter, SPiPlatformReporter, SPMemoryReporter) and replace "translate" from 10.5.2 with the one from 10.5.1 (multiple crash with multiple apps).
The extensions folder in the DVD has been deleted.
I will write a howto to add kexts in the DVD (if you need to).

Don't blame me if it doesn't work on your system. It takes time just to make it stable on mine ...

Further updates will be ppf or mpkg files.

1207FX 02-17-2008 04:57 AM

so you found where it saved the files?

mentos 02-17-2008 04:57 AM

Files are 50M each.

I am just wondering is the Nforce driver included in this release as i didn't see it noted in the announce.

Zephyroth thank you very much for the hard work you are doing.

braindead803 02-17-2008 05:19 AM

im usin grabit downloading at 448 KB/s i have downloaded parts 1-27,30-33. but rar files 28-29 don't show up when i load the group articles. whats goin on? any help would be great. i update the group as well so i don't know whatsup.

WinLinMac01 02-17-2008 05:21 AM

35

cgsheen 02-17-2008 05:23 AM

They're made up of 152 "messages" which are each about 325KB. So one "part" of the .rar (archive) is about 50MB. Your newsreader holds the "files". Some newsreaders combine and decode the messages automatically and save the "attachments" as files. Sometimes you have to do that manually once the newsreader has downloaded all the messages that belong to a certain "part". In the end the newsreader should have all the individual .rar files that made up the upload. You then use an unarchiver to assemble the .rar's and build the .iso file inside them...

WinLinMac01 02-17-2008 05:23 AM

really? I have some files that are 25, and some that are as low as 11.67 and high as 53. Is there something wrong? I have not figured where the files are being saved yet.

open grabit preferences and you'll find were are your downloaded files...

braindead803 02-17-2008 05:27 AM

so i have to compile the .rar files into an iso. or is there a .iso extracted from the rars?

Puttabong 02-17-2008 05:28 AM

braindead803, the iso can be extracted from the rar parts.

braindead803 02-17-2008 05:31 AM

@Puttabong i gotta question. i got all the recent rar files but 28+29 what happened to those? I have updated the group and everything the articles will not show 28+29 so whats up?

mrburns05 02-17-2008 05:33 AM

Well this is good news...Ill sit back and wait for a torrent- i got 10.5.2 installed with graphics update / efi/ 9.2.0 kernel/ itunes fix, and everything is just great! so im in no hurry to start over, lol...

@WinLinMac
I doubt that's correct. The tools that most people use to create the ".rar" parts and carve everything up & yEnc them in a suitable fashion to be uploaded properly and consistently to newsgroup messages are pretty consistent. Just looking at the messages, they all seem pretty close to the same size and every "part" consists of 152 messages. All the "...partxxx.rar" 's should be pretty much the same size.
