audiophile_user 11-06-2008 06:36 AM

looks like ABIT AX78 will have a problem i better check the bios or it will be stuck or something this board has the same chipset http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?mo...49&l3=592&l4=0

not quite sure i understand your post but if you have sb600 acording to your specs then it is supported. What i can say is alot of errors are due to bios settings. Try booting with -v -f -x

audiophile_user 11-13-2008 08:43 PM

can do i was thinking about that coz i've just install it on AX78 Abit motherboard. the boot is so slow than i ever encountered i was thinking to make a patch but i have to study whole SB600.kext that i got from insanely and i patched using kext helper it was working on full speed. everything was ok back then i used another distro because at that time it was working even it was like 5 hrs of installation :)) but using your distro lawless it was made like less than 30 mins but after installation i got like 20 mins all in all to get to the screen. love your distro lawless. uhum i was thinking before to ask help from you directly.

thanks a lot

audiophile_user 11-13-2008 08:52 PM

and i encountered as well that after install i got the cores when i check after installation i got only 1 and the ID was correct though :)

i was thinkin to modify it but is there anyway?

thanks lawless

LawlessPPC 11-13-2008 09:43 PM

in about this mac it will only show 1 core but if you go and look at activity monitor you will see a cpu usage graph for every core.

audiophile_user 11-13-2008 11:55 PM

ohh that makes sense. :) thanks a lot lawless

as for the SB600 i was trying to make a package and i think i have to rely this install manually looks like manual is the best way :)

LawlessPPC 11-14-2008 01:07 AM

sb600 has no issues with this release did you pick the chipset driver during install. Also are you running in ahci mode or ide check your bios

audiophile_user 11-15-2008 05:45 AM

yep i was in ahci mode and hmmm why it's slow? but let me double check again on installation just to be sure and i will get back to you :)

thanks a lot lawless

audiophile_user 11-16-2008 04:43 AM

lawless

after installation on AX78 AMD 770 SB600 Abit Motherboard on AHCI it went smoothly i dunno for some reason after i mod the root on the -s it became slow then i encountered 1st boot and entering the password and username on the screen where you usually logon

after i made a reboot it became slow then i was having a slow response at all when booting up
i tired x- -f -v to check anything when wrong well after which it hangs it's wierd hmmm any suggestions lawless? thanks

levian 11-21-2008 09:59 PM

Hi,
I have a system like:

MSI K9A2 CF (SB600-790X)
4GB Ram
2x250 GB sata hdd
1x60 GB ide hdd
HD 3850 video card
M-Audio 24 / 96 sound card
LG DVD drive ide

I tried every way with Lawless distro and could boot in only safe mode. BIOS setup is sata (IDE) and there is no AHCI selection.

at least I could see the desktop in safe mode but ethernet and video card didn't work.

I could use anyhelp, thank tyou for such a nice work.

please explain what you are modifying the root for via -s right after the installation... is this to bypass the account creation loop? if it is, make sure you are doing this process correctly... state your procedures (exactly) here and we can help you better...

for the second paragraph... if it hangs, tell us what it hangs at... it isn't much help if we can't see what you see.

This install was built on that motherboard please review your bios settings. Also update the bios because before i did i could not run hardware virtualization on virtual pc. So i know for a fact the bios mine shipped with had serious issues. Also dont put a 125watt cpu in it they dont last long

I have 3 HDD's and I use 60GB PATA(ide) for Mac. I already updated my BIOS to 1.7 version which is most recent update for K9A2 CF. my LawlessPPC distro install efforts' steps are below.

In BIOS I've set SATA features disabled
Enabled SATA and RAID mode on/off
Removed SATA HDDs
Disabled all integrated perihephals
While installing, I choose none of graphics cards/ HD 38x0 / HD 3800 support
In safe mod i installed graphics package
with osx86 tools tried to enable QE/CI

none of these attemps didn't work.

still after apple logo there is a funny commadore 64 graphics and couldn't make LAN work.

Also my CPU's power consumption is appear to 89 watts according to AMD's web site. But I found that Triple Core 8450 model is 65 watts. maybe I could change my CPU. Will it be ok with Leopard?

I hope you can help me with those information above.

Thank you for your time and nice work.

Hi all,

First of all thanks to Lawless, his distro was third I've tried and it worked.

Edit : Problem solved, with capping maxmem

Though there is 1 issue I wanted to ask if U ppl might know. When starting Transmission it checks my old transfers, but after couple mins PC freezes asking to reboot. Same problem when I try to patch Mac combo 10.5.5 update, and happened today transferring pictures from digital camera.
Other than that works flawlessly. Thanks in advance.

This is on:
CPU : Phenom 9850 BE
MB : Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DQ6
RAM : 4GB @ 1066
HDD : SATA AHCI
VIDEO : ATI 3870

i have a 140 W processor :D

is there a kext for the SB750 southbrige ? (i think i'm the only one with a sb750, only exia asked about it)

here is my system:
- AMD Phenom 9950 X4 Black Edition 140W - (has SSE4a too)
- MSI DKA790GX - AMD 790GX , SB750
- OCZ Platinum 2*2GB 1000MHz
- Asus Geforce 8600GT Silencer 512 DDR3
- Creative Labs X-Fi Xtreme Audio
- Western Digital SATA2
- Asus DVD-RW IDE

i have 2 partitions :
C - NTFS with Vista x64 (~97GB)
D - Unpartition (~56GB)

i tryed to install OSX86 Leopard For AMD LawlessPPC-Leo-10.5.4-Phenom&AMD
and after i gave the -v command it says : still waiting for root device

i've tryed to change from IDE to AHCI with no luck
should i try with a SATA DVD drive ?
with who i should talk for Creative Labs audio cards kexts ?

please if you have any hints pls tell me

thx

nfoav8or 11-26-2008 02:23 PM

when installing for the first time I would recommend using the boot flags "-f -x -v". By default, LawlessPPC's distro runs with "-f -v" but if you override it with your own, it won't force-load the Extensions folder and may not find the right extensions needed. You may also need to inject an extension later so I'd suggest reading up on it from within a few threads that can be found on this forum or over at insanelymac.

when i wroe about the wattage i meant just on that msi board (they are crap). As for waiting for rot device there is no chipset driver present for motherboard you would have to add it yourself. Your choices would be to get the sb700 kext i think that will do it or if im not mistaken idenebs distro covers it but i cant confirm

Hello LawlessPPC,

firstly sorry for my english. i´m from germany.

i installed your LawlessPPC 10.5.4 on my system and it works great. but give it a way to update your distro from 10.5.4 to 10.5.5. That is very important for me, to install the GF 9600GT driver.

I used the Zephiroth software update, but it won´t work. it stops with detecting cpuids for mac os x leopard.

My system:

Motherboard Name: Asus M3A-H/HDMI
CPU: TripleCore AMD Phenom 8450
Motherboard: AMD 780G, AMD K10
Memory: 2048 MB (DDR2-667 DDR2 SDRAM)
USB Controller: ATI SB700 - OHCI USB Controller
Sound: Realtek ALC888/1200 @ ATI SB700 - High Definition Audio Controller
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT (512 MB)
Network: Realtek RTL8139 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter

check out this thread to help in your quest to get to 10.5.5
http://www.infinitemac.com/f36/zephy...post16597.html

basically you can download the single update direct from the Apple site and place the .pkg file found in the image download to your Downloads folder and then follow the directions at the link.

If you have trouble with that, PM me and I'll send you a link to mine.

Is it correct thread, because i don't see how it relates to fix that particular problem.

I'm having troubles aswell, it was mentioned earlier that updating from 10.5.4 to 10.5.5 it stops on detecting cpus (to be precise on 310th file with AMD Patcher 0.3), same goes to new AMD Patcher 0.3. Even better my ASU 0.5beta now downloads and strait after goes back to update list.

I would like to have that pathed version too, please.

nfoav8or 11-27-2008 07:10 AM

yes its the correct thread if you are unable to get your system updated to 10.5.5.

If you are trying to get it updated to 10.5.5 for Graphics updates that are not given in the online updates but only through the retail DVDs that became available after that system started to be used in the new Macbooks/Pros then thats another problem altogether.

inhibitor 11-27-2008 09:47 AM

No I was using online Mac combo 10.5.5 update, and bugs and security is above all.

levian 11-27-2008 12:51 PM

Hi everybody, I managed to enable QE/CI on my HD 3850 by this link http://www.infinitemac.com/f5/strang...t-bootup-t809/

those kexts really worked for Lawless.

I only have the ethernet problem, the MSI site points out the ethernet card is 8111B. so how can I enable this card because there is no such a driver as I see. which driver do I have to install for my K9A2 CF?

thank you very much.

i followed the direction and it works. but if i install the MacOSXUpd10.5.5.pkg my pc freezes at 14% and the only solution is a hardreset. after it the pc starts in a reboot loop.

I don't know whether I'm coming or going. :-|

nfoav8or 11-28-2008 08:43 AM

read through the voodoo kernel threads, find the 9.5 System.kext file (replace existing one in Extensions folder with this) then use the new voodoo kernel release candidate and then update via Apple Software update. This should solve it for you.

xx66stangxx 12-02-2008 09:18 AM

For the first time, in ages, I am having a issue; I am getting stuck at setup. I re-burned the dvd and reinstalled the OS. I noticed a difference in this time which was the dvd didn't hang and just reboot. I actually saw the installation complete page. I know the commands for to override the setup process however I would like to find out why the setup is hanging at "don't transfer files" page at setup. Any ideas?

boot with the boot flags: "maxmem=3072 cpu=1 -f -x -v"

this should cover most of the minor problems to let us know if anything else is an issue... Also, once you get this installed, look up the SB700 thread in this forum for the sb700 kext that will help speed up your running system.

Cable Unplugged

After a successful installation, onto my Amd X2 3800+, Asus m2n-e, 2 gig Corsair xms, 250 gig sata2 hd ( partitioned 3 ways, 1 = xp, 2 = Ubuntu, 3 = lawless mac osx )

In system preferences > Network, It says the Cable Unplugged, The cable for Ethernet is not plugged in. ( yes I'm 100% certain the cable is plugged in, as I'm able to browse in the other os without issues )

Now I have searched and a few "fixes" for the issue, but neither seem to have worked.
1st was to set the Wake on lan to enabled ( in XP ). ( have done )
2nd was to enable magic packet in bios. ( enabled )

The network card is the onboard Nvidia gigabit lan.

Anyone have any other fixes for this issue perhaps?

Cheers.

disable anything in bios that is not needed and make sure when you burn the dvd that you verify it

what did you select as the customized network "fix"? Can you get us a printout from LSPCI using pcwiz's OSx86 Tools Utility?

EDIT: pcwiz's site is going through some changes right now and the utility is not found at its usual place. use this in the meantime: http://www.mediafire.com/nfoav8or/OSX86Tools.zip

nforce onboard ethernet cards are no fun in osx. you may try a forcedeth kext, but it is likely not to work.
on my old m2n-sli i just bought a cheap ethernet ethernet card ...

Hi guys, this is my first post in this forum.

I will try this installation some day when my download is ready, but before I want to make sure my system will work at all. I was searching for chipset: "MCP78S" but without any result so I'm a bit worried about the compatibility

CPU: Phenom 9950, 4*2.6Ghz
Memory: 4*1GB, Corsair 800Mhz
Motherboard, chipset: nVidia MCP78S
full spec. ( http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?mo...=2&l3=407&l4=0 )
HDD: 640GB SATA2
DVD: SATA, Samsung 22x
EDIT: Graphics: ATI HD4670 512MB (or: Integrated GeForce 8 GPU - Support Micorsoft DirectX10)

Thanks!

* Kalyway_10.5.2_DVD_Intel_Amd , but when booting from the DVD keep restarting at the Darwin boot after like 2-3 sec .

After 48 hours for not sleeping i have downloaded your DVD image burn it and installed .
GREAT WORK MAN ! It works. Indeed my CREATIVE X-FI Extreme Audio dont have the drivers but i will find them . And the second problem is the network card . If i use nForce network is not working the internet but after i puted the cable into a REALTEK network card it's just begin to work !

I have made this account just to tell you : THANKS MAN !

Now i have a question : What it will hapend if i update this version to : 10.5.6 . My Update Tools found this release for update to MAC website ! What do you say ? If you wish i could add you to my Y ! mess list !

definitely not. you are using an AMD Phenom CPU so Voodoo would be the best bet right now.

Hello !

I'm quite new to osx86 installation but not in computing, and I've tested over 10 ditros so far. None worked, always because of lack of SB600 support.

Now, I've figured out how to install LawlessPPC, and everything worked fine. But, after installation, when my computer restarts, OS X does not start :( So I've tried to start with "-f -v" and even "-x" commands but this isn't better. Without verbose, I've got a pretty Mac screen asking me to reboot my computer. With verbose, here is where it hangs :
kextd[10]:IOKitWaitQuiet: timed out waiting to write kernel symbols

Some precisions :
- During installation, I've chosen to install Via/SB drivers, ALC888 drivers, All Nvidia drivers and All Network drivers
- this is not a "still waiting for root device" problem
- OS X is installed in an HFS+ partition of my hard drive

My config :
- Phenom 9550
- MSI K9A2CF-F with SB600
- 2 GB RAM PC2-8500
- SATA Hard drive
- Nvidia 9600 GT

Any help would be great :)

Ok let's forget my previous post.
Finally, I've reinstalled the distro without any nvidia drivers and it worked, I can now boot and use it. I've installed other nvidia drivers for my 9600 GT.

@Jib
Are you still using Lawless? A lot of people are having problems with sb600 and I know Lawless works but If you used a different one Id like to add it to the list.

Jib 01-07-2009 10:57 AM

Yes I'm using the original ditribution from LawlessPPC.
First, it was impossible to install it on my config, but I've figured out that my DVD was corrupted (or not perfect). So I've burn it again but not at max speed, and then install worked perfectly for me (even though first time I forgot to customize installation, so it was not working !).

I've chosen to check only those options :
- Via, SB drivers
- ALC888 drivers

At first reboot, everything worked fine : sound, ethernet, drives... No "still waiting for root device" bug at all ! After that, I've installed drivers for my graphic card : I've found a complete driver set for my Geforce 9600 GT (Kext was installed thanks to Kext helper). Then I've installed some apps (iTunes, Quicktime update etc...) and my printer.

Now, I would like to update to 10.5.6 but I'm not sure it's possible ?! (I know that Apple updater shouldn't be used !).
