Well try this...

Run a linux live CD on the machine and run lspci and we'll see what USB controller your using and find out if there's support for it, may I ask is it absolutely necessary to run Snow Leopard, Like my eMachine Leopard is the only thing that will run or even install, I would suggest trying iPC 10.5.6 PPF5 FINAL, or iAtkos v7, both of these distros have on boot USB patches I believe. Hazards distro should have on boot USB patches aswell, but I can't say for sure.

I just tried running iATKOS v7. Running it with just "-v" causes it to crash and reboot. Running it with "-v cpus=1 busratio=12" causes it to get stuck at the dreaded "still waiting for root device." I have not tried iPC yet.

Below is the results of running lspci in terminal on Ubuntu 10.4 live cd.

Slices' patch should work fine if you can get Leopard to boot, I would try iPC then, its what I use on my eMachine and it runs great, just remember if you get it to boot make sure to select the patched USB drivers in the customize menu in the installer, iPC should have patched USB kext files on boot for you to use a USB keyboard while you install, it may also have PS2 kext files for you to try a PS2 keybaord and mouse during install.

Tried iPC, still waiting for root device. I'm guessing this is the end of the line. No? :(

If you read any of the previous pages you will see that I already tried almost every method of installing Snow Leopard.

00010 08-10-2010 04:47 PM

Leopard is great, especially on an AMD system because with the older Voodoo 9.5.0 kernel it has on the fly CPUID patching, which is something Snow Leopard patched kernels are lacking,

Try this for the "Still waiting for root device" error.

rd=disk0

or

rd=disk0s1

or

rd=disk0s2

or

or rd=disk2

I just tried each of these commands (separately) on Hazard and iPC. Still, the "waiting for root device" error appears. Only Empire EFI and iBoot don't have this problem (but have the no input problem).

What network/wireless cards are you using?

@ MehStrongBadMeh

Have you tried Making your own patched Empire EFI CD, theres a tutorial on the net.

Yes, I tried adding a modified IOUSBFamily kext but the usb still did not work.

Hey, will iATKOS v7 10.5.7 work on my laptop?
I have a Toshiba Satellite A300-1BL.
I tried to search it on osx86 project wiki but I couldn't find it on any of the compatibility lists since 10.4.11 till 10.6.3.
But I really want to run Mac OSX, maybe not iATKOS...
Any help would be appreciated :(

DSDT problem

I've just answered someone on another forum regarding this problem, and just saw this topic here, so I'll copypaste my response here.

I have quite a similar machine and a similar problem. There is a known trouble with BIOS in these series (L505D, A505). Linux couldn't be installed on them neither. On Linux however the problem has been quickly resolved by a simple operation incorporated into the loader, which is copying the DSDT to memory prior to loading the system. And further referring to the tables copied to the RAM rather than working with the motherboard directly. The issue is that somehow the DSDT tables get overwrited with garbage on some stage of loading the system, which totally messes the whole thing up.

As to Hackintosh, there is a built-in possibility to do quite the same with Chameleon. Just get the right DSDT and place it into the dedicated folder inside the installer media, and the bootloader should pick it up (I think this is "Extra" folder on your installer media). Probably you would need to make your bootloader load from a usb stick (where you may easily place your DSDT file) or otherwise mess with the image before burning it on CD/DVD, which is a bit more complicated. I was moving in this direction, but eventually I had some more important things to do and so this is being delayed as for now.

Of course, no guarantees this will actually work, but it might, especially combined with other techniques, such as tuning the DSDT to match the OsX expectations of hardware. There are plenty of tutorials (most of them outdated) referring to how this should be done.

The right DSDT is located right here:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=23950
I think you should rename it to dsdt.aml in order to use it with Chameleon.

You may also refer to this discussion by Linux developers:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14679

Please post any resluts, positive or negative, so other people with this problem can benefit of your trial and error too and maybe think of methods to make a further progress.

Now I have another question: will updating to 10.6.3 using Apple Software Update have any consequences?

MehStrongBadMeh 08-22-2010 04:26 AM

@benzin: I'll give your DSDT file a try. Give me some time to set it up.

@Scream: You can't update from 10.5.7 to 10.6.3 using apple software update.

[quote=MehStrongBadMeh;50217]@benzin: I'll give your DSDT file a try. Give me some time to set it up.

Hey, I just realized your model doesn't match the machine this DSDT file was pulled of (L505D-S5983), it has AMD processor, so pretty sure it won't work on your machine. In order to try this method, you should get dsdt.aml matching your computer. You should be able to do this from windows. It's ought to be genuine, because some of the cracking techniques include overriding the original DSDT tables, in order to make Windows think it's installed on valid OEM machine. If this kind of technique is in use on your machine you won't be able to get the right DSDT while on Windows. If your Windows is genuine, go to acpica.org and download Windows Binary Tools (current direct link: http://acpica.org/download/iasl-win-20100806.zip). There should be utility named iasl in this package, use it in command prompt (probably need to be administrator): iasl -g. This should provide you with DSDT matching your computer. There is a way to do the same from Linux, if you have troubles with Windows for some reason.

Good luck!

MehStrongBadMeh 08-22-2010 02:59 PM

My copy of Windows is genuine. I succesfully ran the iasl utility and got a file named dsdt_TOSINV00.dsl that I will rename to DSDT.aml, I will use this instead of the one I downloaded from you.

Update: I tried using the DSDT with myhack 1.1 and myhack mod 1.1.4. The vanilla kernel would just crash and reboot immediately and the "chocolate" kernel would just kernel panic. I also tried making a custom empire efi boot CD using the DSDT.aml file. It also just crashed and rebooted. Sigh...

benzin 08-23-2010 03:25 PM

Actually, the file generated by iasl (dsdt.dsl) is no good for this use. Sorry for the confusion. It is the same data, but disassembled and parsed to a higher-level language. In order to get the aml file (which is a binary file), you need either to compile the dsl file with iasl or make it output the binary itself. I'll try to figure out how to get the binary without compiling. You may also refer to the various guides throughout the osx forums.

benzin 08-23-2010 03:33 PM

Just looked at the output of iasl, there is a file named dsdt_TOSINV00.dat. With pretty high probability, this is the binary which should be renamed to dsdt.aml. Worth some additional research though.

benzin 08-23-2010 03:45 PM

Just checked with hex editor. Yep, this is the binary. Just rename it to dsdt.aml (all lower case).

MehStrongBadMeh 08-23-2010 11:43 PM

SUCCESS!!!! MyHack 1.1 Chocolate Kernel successfully booted and installed to my hard drive using the correct DSDT file. I still have many post-installation fixes to do. But at this point I can boot into both WIndows 7 and Snow Leopard. Thanks for your help benzin. :D Additionally, thank you 00010 for helping me earlier. :D

RAM 4.00 GB
System 32 bit
Processor Intel Premium Dual CPU T3400 2.16GHz
Network: Relateck RTL8102E/RTL8103E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20)
Wireless: Atheros AR5007EG Adaptor

Sorry for being away for a while...But anyways....Amina your system looks great as far as the info you have given me, the WiFi card I am unsure of. I suggest trying the latest edition of Empire EFI or iBoot, and if none of those work Hazards Snow Leopard Distro ,I would like to know your Graphics card model and specs though.

Hello 00010 and others. I have been reading through this thread for a while. I admire your hard work and all of the help you give people. Same for everyone else that throws in thier 2 cents. I wonder if you can point me in the right direction. I had the resolution issue on my hackintosh. So I installed the GMA4500 kext and got everything squared away. However, after doing so my mouse cursor is stuck on the top left side of the screen. The mouse works because I can click and object bar expands, but the cursor doesn't move. Someone on another forum mentioned replacing voodoops2 but I can't find it anywhere on my system. Do you think this file may help me? Thanks in advance for any assistance. :)

What is your exact wifi card model it may not be the exact kext your looking for that you are trying there's ussaly more than one way to do things, or you may just have the model number wrong. Or it may be a configuration error, try repairing the permissions...

Toshiba Satelite P300, pn:PCPCCC-01S01C

Hi all,

I have been searching high and low for a solution to get OSx to boot on my machine. I have tried a number of distros, Hazard's. iDeneb 1.6- 10.5.8, and most recently SnowOSX3.6, All were able to install however i would always get a kernel panic when i try to boot the system. I have to use a boot cd iBoot or nawcom to attempt the startup, but osx never starts. I have a hard time finding any posts with the config used on my specific system. The closest i have come to sucess was after installing SnowOSX3.6, i was getting a panic from AppleFWOHCI, so i removed the FireWire kext from the /Library/Extensions folder and tha solved that problem. However i got a new panc (cpu 0 caller 0x2a7e57) Kernel trap at 0x5d446c07.

Here are my Laptop Specs:

IntelŪ Core™2 Duo processor P7350 (2.0GHz, 1066MHz FSB, L1 Cache 32KB/32KB, L2 Cache 3MB)

Memory:

Standard Memory: 2 x 2GB DDR2 (800MHz)

Graphics Controller

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
Video Memory: 512MB dedicated VRAM

00010 12-09-2010 04:02 PM

@kozzbc You need to find out what kernel is on the install DVD, and make sure you install that kernel so at next boot it will boot just as the DVD did, I am not too sure about graphics card compatibility though...

00010

00010 12-09-2010 04:03 PM

@locopro870 Your system seems ok, graphics may be an issue though... Try Hazard'd Distro and boot with the -v boot flag and post results...

Hello,

Thanks for your response!

I have installed.

- Update to version 1.8 bios
- Download iBoot
- Use original 1.6 Snow leopard.

WebCam - OK
Touchpad - OK
Sound OK
USB - OK
Ethernet - OK
Wi Fi - NO
Video - NO

Now my problem is:

1) lack the video and wifi kexts.

when I install the kexts and reboot does not start.

Use kext helper and terminal

2) When I'm updating
to 10.6.5 or 10.6.4
I have Kernel panic
I canīt finish installation

3) install multibeast and restarted after chamaleon logo.
use-v busratio = 18-x
I canīt boot from disk

none works

please help!

kozzbc 12-12-2010 02:09 AM

Thank you for the reply, I have succesfully installed and booted the OSx3.6 dvd 10.6.5, after removing the firewire entries from the /System/Library/Extensions as before, The new problem I am having is that i cant get any internet access or Graphics to work, I have only attempted to figure out the ethernet, My adapter is a Marvell Yukon 88E804T, no sucess yet, I am hoping that the Osx Tools will find and download any missing drivers i might need once i get online. So about finding out what kernel is booting i can assume that i need to type -v and look for the Darwin kernel number when i boot from dvd, then install the same one under the customize install menu. Would it be easier to buy/borrow a usb wifi sick to initally gain internet access then run the scan hardware and install driver app from osx 86 tools?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

How I can fix it?

Does the new kext pertain to your card series?

The best and most universal kernel is the latest Voodoo Kernel but if I remember there is no on the fly CPUID patching for AMD systems yet on Snow Leopard but its been a loooooong time since I have checked... But most pre-patched installer DVD use the Voodoo Kernel by default.

Here is my complete extensions folder for Toshiba Satellite L305-S5962 running OSX86 10.5.8 (leopard) from ideneb v1.6 lite. I used the voodoo kernel if it matters. All kexts have been edited, all devices are working (no DVD video playback) and system is rock solid.

www.pandpinc.com/L305-S5962.zip

Only thing you will need to install is the realtek USB WLAN utility, google for a download link.

Once installed configure your wired and wireless network controllers to static ip, then duplicate the service and set the copy to DHCP. This will enable DHCP. I think LAN has to be plugged in on startup to work.

The devices supported:
8101 Realtek LAN
8187 Realtek WLAN
GMA4500m/GMAX3100 graphics (DVD video playback isnt working)
Media Card Reader
USB
Audio
ect.

locopro870 12-17-2010 01:36 PM

The kext it automatically install the update 10.6.5.
plug an external screen and the desktop is there.
but it looks very bad.

the new version of safari
has errors constantly.

you might need a DSDT file, just like most of the A505 and L505D series. The procedure is described earlier in this topic.

A505 issues

I beleive that the issues with the A505, specifically A505-S6033 are caused by the kernel. I just installed by usb method using myHack and the 10.6.0 disk with the chocolate kernel. After install I immediately updated with 10.6.4 combo update and reverted to multibeast as I like it better. I believe that you could just use iboot to start with IF you use the 10.6.3 retail disk. It has kernel support for the newer processors. I dont know if usb will work that way though. My install on A505-S6033 is perfect, just trying to get audio and wireless.

On reboot i had:

Boot0: testing
Boot0: testing
Boot0: testing
Boot0: error

And pc stop here
So i use Windows vista DVD to' repair and than after reboot start only vista directly.

Than i start over using iPC 10.5.6 Final PP5 DVD, same customize option, maybe with PS2/driver for keyboard.
-After installing, at reboot it gave me this:

Please contact the Vodoo kernel dev-team....... (And other things)
panic (cpu 0 caller 0x00.....): kernel trap at 0x00....

And a page of number

Debugger called <panic>
Backtrace (CPU0) Frame: return address 4 potential arg
And Than numbers

And below

No mapping exist for frame pointer
Backtrace terminated-invalid frame pointer 0xb....,

So i forcely reboot and start vista, download easyBoot and try something but the result is that at booting i have Windows boot manager and -the choice of.. Windows Vista only

So i start over with iATKOS v7 and same option and same panic screen.

But when i reboot i see for while, before Windows boot manager screen:

Booot ..something
Boot.. something

But i cant see it very well, im not sure, its too fast

Anyone please can Help me?

What bootloader have you choose? Try asere and try change the kernel,i have Iatkos S3 v2 and i've choosed bootloader Asere, all patches, and the qooz 10.7( or something like that) kernel, i didnt check the 32 bit boot option, and the drivers i have selected none. Except voodoo PS2 controller, the others i have installed manually inside snow leopard.
