First, it was impossible to install it on my config, but I've figured out that my DVD was corrupted (or not perfect). So I've burn it again but not at max speed, and then install worked perfectly for me (even though first time I forgot to customize installation, so it was not working !).

I've chosen to check only those options :
- Via, SB drivers
- ALC888 drivers

At first reboot, everything worked fine : sound, ethernet, drives... No "still waiting for root device" bug at all ! After that, I've installed drivers for my graphic card : I've found a complete driver set for my Geforce 9600 GT (Kext was installed thanks to Kext helper). Then I've installed some apps (iTunes, Quicktime update etc...) and my printer.

Now, I would like to update to 10.5.6 but I'm not sure it's possible ?! (I know that Apple updater shouldn't be used !).

Update to the new Voodoo kernel and see another of my recent posts for more info on being able to use Apple Software Update with an AMD system.

Thanks !
I'm gonna read that...

hey there, i manage to install MAC OS X :D (lawless's version with some small changes )
but now i have to fix some small things :
- only one core is working
- the frequency of my memory is 400 MHz instead of 1000MHz
- i don't know what to do with my audio card (Creative Labs X-Fi Xtreme Audio) i don't want to use my on-board audio card and i saw on in lawless's signature : Sound Card:- SoundBlaster Live!
- (AMD Phenom 9950 BLACK EDITION Agena 2.6GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 2MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 140W Quad-Core Processor) and here it says L2 Cache: 512 KB and BUS speed it says : 200 MHz
- i have a 5 button mouse but the side buttons ar working like the scroll button, can i use the buttons to work as back/foreward ?
- i can't see my IDE dvd-rw drive (can i enter MAC OS in IDE mode, not AHCI ?)
- if i'm not using my dvd install disc i can't enter MAC OS (boot error)
- i can't seem to open most of my videos ar there any codecs( i tryed with vlc) ?
- where can i see some info about my motherboard?
* updates ar working(there downloading right now (10.5.6 >:-)))
* both network adapters work : wireless and normal
if i forgot anything please tell me
thx :)

EDIT : my mac crashed :(
i was installing the updates and after i rebooted it gave me an error, after that my mac was not working anymore

Install SteerMouse, it's working great (with it, you can customize every button)

Same problem for me if I set the Mac partition as the boot partition. So I reverted back to my XP partition (i.e. I boot OSX from my XP partition)

Never install OSX Delta or Combo updates directly !
I've tried many solutions found on the web, but none worked for me, I can't update my OSX to 10.5.5 or 10.5.5 :(

For those of as with AMD SB600 south bridge OSx86 is easier to setup, when SATA controller is in AHCI mode (the installer sees all SATA HDD's and you can partition and choose any as install location)

But if you wanna dual boot with Windows XP (like I am) and have previously installed XP with SATA controller in IDE mode - it's like pain in the @$ - you have to enter BIOS setup each time you want to switch OSes and change SATA controller mode from AHCI to IDE or vise versa.
So I dig and have found a nice and easy solution:

1.Boot XP in IDE mode.
2.Copy "ahci8086.sys" file from attached driver package to "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers".
3.Right-click on "AHCI-InstallXP32.reg" file and choose Merge
4.Reboot, enter BIOS setup and enable AHCI mode, save and reboot. Boot Windows and have fun.

i found this guide here but i want your opinion if i shoud try it, it dosen't say if it works on Vista
_
so the first time i tryed installing MAC i wouldn't let me create mac partition without killing my vista partition (Unallocated) so i made blank partition with Acronis and it worked(i hope it's k because it worked). But now after mac crashed(repaired my vista boot) i tryed to install it again and after the succeful install it boot's from the install disc but it dosen't continue; it stops in the darwin .

in all the dual-boot guides i found it requiers Pc-EFI and i know when i tryed to install Zephyroth i couldn't proceed because of this EFI

nfoav8or orLawless please tell about my Creative SB X-Fi sound card, do you have kext for it ?

LawlessPPC 01-14-2009 02:17 AM

x-fi is not supported currently just emu10k 1 and 2 cards

more than 1 core is working look in activity monitor you will see a graph for each core
the memory reading speed is down to applesmbios.kext basically it doesnt see ddr so it doesnt double the figure it gets.

Info about the motherboard? just go to manufacturers site

you should only do apple updates through apple utility without patching if you are running the voodoo rc1 kernel

but you must make a backup of this kernel in a different name so when you install the updates apple will over write the kernel with a new one so you just tell the bootloader to use your renamed 1 then you can recopy it back with the correct name

to run a different kernel you must install it. I dont mind answering questions but i feel you should be searching the forums for some of your answers as these have all been answered on a number of occasions. If i keep giving the answers so readily its not going to sink in.

You have to turn off the PC and turn it back on. It seems to do something to IDE HDs that causes the PC not to boot until u switch off.

Here's *my* stupid question, I've searched but have not quite come up with anything.
After a "successful" install, restart boots MacOS I do the personalizing bit and then after login the background changes to blue. Here the Finder should startup but screen remains blue with movable cursor. Nothing else? What's with this one?

Oh, reformatted and tried different options on installs like 20 times, takes about 15mins to install.

Edit: Ok, tried again without nVidia Drivers. Works! Now to install Sound (ALC883) and Vid GeForce 8600GT 1GB

Well, I found that out when trying to install on my machine. Even on my older ASUS K8VSE DLX it did it. When booting from the DVD and it's loading the drivers for the drive I usually hear the drive spin up, which I guess that it puts it to sleep then wakes it back up.
If all doesn't go well and the install fails, the HDD is not recognized until pwr off, then reboot.

Just from my experiences ^_^

I did edit the post, problem was the NVInject and kexts on the disc.
After many many many methods, Using NVinstaller v5.2 and grabbed a GeForce8xxxGLDriver.bundle from 10.5.2 NVkexts+.pkg

However I can't switch resolutions and it displays 768MB VRAM tho it's a 1GB. Hmmm, paying more attention now CI says software.

This is the last thing that I need working. Any sugesstions?

Edit: is there any way I can take the kexts and method from Kalyway 10.5.2? When I installed that one it did the Vid card with CI/QE switching resolutions but only 512MB.

Oh and is there anything to map keyboard? I would just like to switch two keys since my Logitech keyb has the Mac Command Key as "Alt" and the Mac Option/Alt as "Windows/Super".

Lawless any idea if the MSI DKA790GX (AMD 790GX NB) and (SB700 SB) work with your current build? I'm having reboot issues at initial install when the Rom Drive spins up, it just resets my system endlessly...

AMD Phenom 9850 Black Edition
4GB Patriot DDR2-800 (4-4-4-12)
2 Sata II Hard drives
2 IDE Drives (DVDR and DVD-ROM)
Creative XFI Titianium (PCI-E)

I'm lost...any help would be appreciated.

it works, i think that your moatherboard has SB750, not 700
lawless with some small changes works :
AMD Phenom 9950 X4 Black Edition 140W - (has SSE4a too)
- MSI DKA790GX - AMD 790GX , SB750
- OCZ Platinum 2*2GB 1000MHz
- Asus Geforce 8600GT Silencer 512 DDR3
- Creative Labs X-Fi Xtreme Audio
- SATA2 HardDrive
- IDE DVD drive
i think the most importnat change that i made to the install disc is to inject(with TransMac) this
i only managed to install this in AHCI mode(note IDE mode), but if you know how to put SATA kexts on your install disc you can try it
but be carefull after you manage to install MAC OS X not to install any updates(like10.5.6), i crahed my mac because of that :(
and i think it won't be easy to find kexts for your sound card, i have the same problem :(

ChrisH 01-18-2009 08:51 PM

I got TransMac but I have no clue how to use it.. Is there any tutorial that will show me how to inject these ktexts? If you know please let me know what the address is...PM me if you want...

it's not that hard, select in Options > Show Hidden Files , mount the image, expand the image HFS+ Volume > System > Library and there u can find extensions.mkext (just use drag&drop)
and you can search what other files you can change on other forums or google

ChrisH 01-19-2009 04:01 AM

Hmm I can see the folder, and I can see the Extensions.mkext...but the SB700 kexts you had me download won't copy over?? What do you mean by mount it? I don't see anywhere in this program where you mount it. I don't know if I'm understanding what you mean...

mount the image = File > Open Disk Image
be carefull when you copy/delete files in the image because it autosave any changes so you should make a copy of your image and you can only modify things in the right window of TransMac
you should buy a DVD+/-RW disc so you can try many combinations
good luck

ChrisH 01-21-2009 04:55 AM

Well I burned a DVD, it booted and I got the install 100%, but after first boot...I got a Kernel Panic...I gave up for now, hopefully there will be a release with all of the newer AMD chipsets and I won't have to go through all that junk...

Thanks for the help!

Install via External Hard Drive

Hey, I got the install started, but I couldn't reformat my hd or add a partition to it because it says that it has a S.M.A.R.T. error, that my hard drive is failing. I just did a WD diagnostic on my hard drive and it is giving me errors too. Does that mean that I should just replace my hd??? sorry if it is a blonde question...

Thanks guys

kr_krack 01-28-2009 05:23 PM

Hi for me it doesn't even boot, "Still waiting for the root device" error appears, although it seems that the chipset is recognized. From what I read it seems i have a bad combination of hardware. I've tried boot options from here http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/in....22_message.3F but with no luck.
Here is my hardware configuration, dvd-rom is slave and sata drive tertiary master (I guess this is by default)

> Mainboard : Abit KN9(NF-MCP55 series)

> Chipset : nVidia nForce 570 Ultra

> Processor : AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ @ 2000 MHz

> Physical Memory : 1024 MB (2 x 512 DDR2-SDRAM )

> Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS

> Hard Disk : SAMSUNG (250 GB) 2504c SATA II

> DVD-Rom Drive : TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182M SATA

Is there any solution or it simply doesn't work for my hardware ?

Elvirana 01-28-2009 09:02 PM

Hey Lawless.
I am downloading it right now, but as for all the other releases, i got a PCMIA error, even if the slot is empty.
If i do make it to the installation, what chipset, drivers, fixes and such would you recommend with my system specs?(See my signature.)
I am asking this just because i'm a 'fool' at this. ;)
Thanks for your effort.

Elvir.

No Worries

No worries about the hard drive situation, I emailed HP, and they are sending me a brand new hard drive. When I get it next week I will be putting it in my HP dv2125nr, and installing your distro. Can't wait!!!!

Help!!!

Ok... I just got my new hard drive in and put it in my laptop. I popped in the install disk that worked last time, and now I get an error as soon as I try to boot the disk.

"System config file '/com.apple.bot.system/Library/preferences/systemConfiguraiton/com.apple.Boot.plist' not found"

I have tried all of the boot flags that I was told to use in the ReadMe file. -f -x -v cpus=1

Still getting the same error. Any ideas??? could it be that my bios say that the factory installed OS is Vista still and there isn't any OS on this hard drive? Help please!!!

EDIT: Ok, I did install and it went successfully, but now when i try and boot from HD or DVD it gives me the same error it does above. any ideas???

EDIT: got that resolved, just had to select HD as main boot every time i boot....

Need some help...

Lawless PPC seems to be the latest install that would work for me (10.5.4) on my ASUS M2A-VM HDMI.

All the other distros are "Still Waiting for root Device" Idunno how long they gonna wait.:p

For fun I got an M2N-SLI iPC 10.5.6 installs fine but Voodoo 9.5 panics randomly even just before the finder loads and the system runs ever so slowly after the install.

Great install on the M2A with Lawless but I can't extract large packages it seems, it freezes near the end. Zeph's AMD Patcher suffers the same fate, seems as it's going fine then freezes near the end. So no ASU.

I downloaded the combo update (10.5.6) but can't extract or install or do anything.

I also suffer from the install freezing just near the end of the install with the 8GB RAM.
I removed two of the modules to install.

Curiously it only freezes with the 8GB if I Erase/Reformat before the install. If I leave the drive intact the install completes successfully and works well (what the heck is that)?

Another question - since I am running a Phenom x4 do I *HAVE* to use the Voodoo Kernel? It seems to be very unstable for me and the Universal Kernel Works well. Can anyone help with the freezing whilst trying to extract packages?

Edit: Oh yeah, one more does -v do anything beside verbose mode? It seems that if I try to boot (dvd or installation) without -v I get panic or error "You need to restart blah blah", but -v boots great every time.

I hope someone will help to get this running perfectly :D

As I type I am installing on the M2N whilst running the M2A nicely only without Hardware Graphics tho.

M2A-VM HDMI
AMD Phenom 9750 X4
4x Markvision 2GB DDR2 RAM [8GB Total]
2x Maxtor/Seagate 500GB SATAII HDs
1x Maxtor 250GB SATA HD
1x WDC 250GB SATA HD
1x WDC 200GB PATA
Pioneer DVR-116 IDE
XFX GeForce 8600GT 1GB (Not working yet, hopefully will after the updates)

Help please!!!!

Ok, finally, I have to pick the hard drive as the boot source, and the OS loads famously. But my keyboard and touchpad weren't working, so I downloaded a PS/2 fix and now I can't boot my hard drive. It gets to the firewire device and says still waiting for root device. and I can't reinstall from the disk because when running the disk it gets to my wireless card and says that the Lawless boot disk is read only, duh, and won't progress. HELP PLEASE!!!! I don't care if I have to do a fresh install, just tell me how to get it past that point so I can....

have you updated osx because its hanging at intelcpupmmanagement. You need to either delete that kext or install one of the disabler kexts to stop it from running.

all this is because you have 4gb or above you need to use a ide/sata driver/kext that allows for 64bit.

Edit: Oh yeah, one more does -v do anything beside verbose mode? It seems that if I try to boot (dvd or installation) without -v I get panic or error "You need to restart blah blah", but -v boots great every time.

I hope someone will help to get this running perfectly :D

As I type I am installing on the M2N whilst running the M2A nicely only without Hardware Graphics tho.

M2A-VM HDMI
AMD Phenom 9750 X4
4x Markvision 2GB DDR2 RAM [8GB Total]
2x Maxtor/Seagate 500GB SATAII HDs
1x Maxtor 250GB SATA HD
1x WDC 250GB SATA HD
1x WDC 200GB PATA
Pioneer DVR-116 IDE
XFX GeForce 8600GT 1GB (Not working yet, hopefully will after the updates)

all this is because you are running more than 3.5gb of memory. You need to use a 64bit aware kext or driver for your sata/ide.

It gets to the firewire device and says still waiting for root device. and I can't reinstall from the disk because when running the disk it gets to my wireless card and says that the Lawless boot disk is read only, duh, and won't progress. HELP PLEASE!!!! I don't care if I have to do a fresh install, just tell me how to get it past that point so I can....

so it would boot of the harddrive to the os untill you added the ps2 kext? I would suggest getting the latest kext for you chipset adding that to the drive repairing all permissions for all your kexts then boot with -v -f see how you go. Let me know

64bit kexts

Just for reference. Here is a link to some community modified kexts that might get you up and running with 3.5+gb of memory. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=127611 Special thanks to Slashack for his work on these kexts

* Please always backup your extensions folder prior to updating or making changes. If you have questions on how to do so just ask.

I used your original version of mac osx, I've not modified anything on it. Can you suggest which disabled kext I need? And how do I add it to the disc(or how do I install it? I'm a noob when it comes to mac) cheers!

you need intelcpupmdisabler.kext then do a search for kext injection or run voodoo kernel as this will ignore the kext

Welcome to InfiniteMac! :)

Your specs said you have 2GB of memory & you have the Asus M3A motherboard. The link I posted is for people who have problems with using more than 3.5/3.5 gb of memory so you shouldn't have this problem. Forgive me as I have not read all the posts.

Your mobo has the amd 770 north bridge and the sb600 southbridge.

You should place your system specs including chipset in your signature this. It will then appear on every post you make. How to edit your signature: http://www.infinitemac.com/faq.php?f...atures_avatars

*Tell me what options you selected during install.

TransientMotion 02-09-2009 04:39 PM

Thanks guys! I'll give you a full list of the options I used in a few hours time when I get home. But for now :-
1. Which would be best to do? Install the disabler kext or the voodoo kernel (or both?)
2. How do I do this (or do you have a link to instructions?)
Sorry if I seem like a complete tard but I've been tainted by micro(EVIL)soft, and the only other os I've really used are commodores! Lol

Yeah, after I posted I came across the Slashack postings and so on. I grabbed the VIAATA kext from the posts and I'll install later 2day and see what happens.

The M2A-VM HDMI system runs excellent but no Hardware Video and the freezings for the package extraction. Which makes me remember, I never tried with less than 4GB RAM.

Here goes...

I'll post later.

Edit: Ok cool! I left in only 2GB and the Package patcher worked to the end.
Made an image of the drive so I can restore.

Now to UPDATE!
"Crosses Fingers"

Thankx Lawless

Right, I've got the list of options i used in the installation

Third Party Drivers :
Sound Driver : ALC883 6 Port (I saw it mentioned somewhere on here this is the one i need)
Chipset Driver : VIA and SB chipset driver
Graphics Driver : Nvidia Drivers (Wasn't sure if there was a particular one i should use)
Network Driver : LAN drivers (again I wasn't sure which to use)
File Systems : NTFS

Hope this can give you an idea of whats up!
Cheers

i use both voodoo and the disabler just to be safe but putting the kernel on is easier then adding the extension without a gui. So copy the kernel to the root of the drive and call it backup then boot press f8 as its booting at the darwin prompt and type backup -v -f

then once in the os you can use kexthelper to install the disabler kext and make a copy of backup and then call it mach_kernel to replace the old kernel. Then repair permissions for the drive.

your system specs are to generic look at the way mine are posted it gives you all the info you need to know about my hardware. It just makes life easier and saves ppl the trouble of having to read up on your motherboard for which chips it runs. The secret to a good install is to just install the chipet driver. The reason being you are unlikely to have conflicts with a bad driver on boot. Then you can install the other drivers after and if it doesnt boot you know exactly which driver caused an issue. The reason i say this is this release is quite old now and its suprising what support apple add in l8r versions. You may not need to install seperate drivers for everything in an up to date install. Also your filesystem wont be NTFS as OSX wont right to it without the help of a utility.

ok, it's installed and onto the section where you select keyboard layout, then if you want to transfer files from another mac. I select the "do not transfer my information now" option and click continue but it just goes back to the beginning :s
I've got the voodoo kernel (it's a dmg file) how do I use this? I know it's an apple image, but how do I access it to get the kernel? And how do I copy the kernel to the drive with mac is on? Sorry bout this, just I have little knowledge of macs so far and can't figure it out!

Ok, managed to get it going! :D only problem is I don't have network access. My board has a atheros PCIe gigabit lab builtin. How do I add the driver for it? And is there one available that will work for it?

Closer to Joy

Still running my Lawless installed, it's the only distro that boots and installs on my M2A-VM HDMI. Seems installing the AppleVIAATA.kext from the Slashack post cured the freezes with the 8GB RAM, But I can't see my PATA Drives (1 HD,
1 Pioneer DVR116). Not too big an issue, an enclosure via USB2.0 works well, and I don't have my NTFS Drives read/write - my Vista partition was trashed once.

Also after patching the 10.5.6 Combo update package, "USB kexts fail load and show up yellow and I get still waiting on root device". Any ideas?

TransientMotion 02-10-2009 09:45 PM

Hey, its all running nicely now - sound, network, all seems to be running sweet. installed vlc but seems to be a slight problem as no video output, just a black screen. i'll work it out tho :)
