iPC dev. Thank you for all your hard work

I have been running Zephyroth's 10.5.2 updated over the last year to 10.5.5. I have had some issues, but nothing I couldn't fix or live with. I liked it so much, I gave my G5 to my wife and my HacIntosh became my main machine. When I tried to update to 10.5.6, it all came crashing down around my ears. I kept back-ups so nothing of value was lost. I tried to install (unsuccessfully) almost all the distros out there (including iPC 10.5.6 beta), and finally settled on Lawless 10.5.4. However, I couldn't update it, even to 10.5.5. I became acutely aware of my need for stability and bought a MacBook Pro. Today, after several tries, I installed iPC 10.5.6 final on my HacIntosh. I have been able to iron out the few glitches, and now it is more stable than it's ever been.

Again, thank you to all that worked on this, and all who contributed to the cause.

Rick :)

Possible installation?

Is it possible to install iPC OSx86 Leopard 10.5.6 on my system, I have tried with other distributions I while a go but never succeed with them probably due to my Nforce3 chip. So to my question: will this distribution work on my system, or do I have to prepare the installation DVD with some special Kext for example VIA instead of AppleNforce.
(I have install all the updates to the DVD, five updates).

Ok. So i'm downloading this now and 2 things? 1. How do I check the MD5 and 2. can someone link me to the PPF 1- 5 i need to download and a guide to patch it?

Thanks.

cmdshft 02-15-2009 07:06 AM

FINAL = Beta patched to PPF5. Just apply the new PPF in the first post to the FINAL ISO.

Apple NForceATA: found 0 units

Hi Hara Taiki, PCwiz & all, Can anybody advise on how I can work around this problem? I can install iPC but cannot boot into install,Apple NForceATA: found 0 units. I have a Presario F500 AMD Sempron. Chipset is Nvidia MCP51, nForce 410/430 MCP. I have tried many different ways but cannot boot. I can, however, install Kalyway 10.5.2 and Leo4all 4.1 and boot to desktop but I really want iPC and it's superior peripherals support and voodoo. Please help me. There must be a way to include what I need to boot.

zak 02-20-2009 10:15 PM

@dracea, Hi, your hardware looks perfect. you need to elaborate on your problem. With hardware like this you could install from a retail DVD

BadCoder 02-20-2009 10:50 PM

Thanks for everyone's hard work on this release. I'm looking now at replacing my old Leo4All install...

Aren't there are 9800 drivers on the iPC install disc? Did you try those?

anthonyq123 02-20-2009 11:17 PM

dracea 02-20-2009 11:25 PM

@zak ... thanks ... but ... i don`t think there are ICH10 drivers ... that is my problem ... so no os x for me :|

zak 02-21-2009 12:00 AM

@dracea, I thought ICH10 was ok but maybe I got it wrong, sorry

zak 02-21-2009 12:05 AM

@dracea, Have you seen this? http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/ind...howtopic=76404 It says,AppleAHCIPort.Kext Build 31 (ver 1.5.2) Adds ID for ICH7 to ICH10.

xyz042 02-21-2009 04:36 AM

I'm going to try again. Wish me luck.

gabbo 02-21-2009 12:13 PM

Successfull iPC 10.5.6 installation on:

AMD64 Athlon X2 5000+ @ 2.80GHz
Northbridge: NVidia Quadro NVS210S GPU
Southbridge: NVidia nForce 430B MCP
4 Gb DDR2 800Mhz RAM
C-Media 8738 Audio
Realtek RTL8139 LAN
NVidia GeForce 6600 128Mb RAM
SATA II 500GB Samsung

But I went into a lot of trouble 'till things finally worked out good:

At first, the installation failed because the audio kexts from the DVD were corrupted.
Then, I tried once again, without installing the audio kexts. Installation went fine, but I saw the mouse pointer was moving extremly slow. Somehow, I've managed to delete the nvdarwin kext. The mouse pointer was now moving, but, without the video card injector, it was useless.
I accessed the Extensions folder to check out if the disabler was there. Well, there it was. But, I also found AppleCUPThermal.kext and AppleThermal.kext. I've deleted those kexts then reinstalled nvdarwin.
And now I have a fully functional 10.5.6 on my AMD computer. Oh joy! :D

dracea 02-21-2009 12:56 PM

@zak ... it is good ... but when i boot frumos iPC dvd ... just restarts withouth any warning or error message .... i don`t know why ... i see that the drivers exist for ICH10 but ... just won`t boot

zak 02-21-2009 06:19 PM

@dracea, could be your bios settings,Execute Disable Bit or something like that, I'm not sure

I installed iPC 10.5.6 on my Gateway MX8738 laptop Core Duo GMA950 using an external usb hdd. My main system is iATKOS v5i updated to 10.5.6 vanilla. I checked video, Intel SATA, Powermanagement pkg, clamshell, AppleSMBIOS Anv MacBook Pro, PS/2 keyboard fix, and everything went fine with a post install of sound patch, trackpadpane, and kext for side scroll. The big change that I noticed with this system is that itunes new smart playlist DOES NOT crash itunes. This worked with both itunes 7 and again with 8 after I did all software updates. Has anyone else noticed this problem "fixed" with iPC Leopard? Nice DVD!!!!

dracea 02-23-2009 09:48 AM

@zak ... ia have some pictures with my errors if you can help me pm and i`l send them to you

user62756 02-24-2009 06:13 AM

What combination ?

I have the following system and have been experimenting - not a lot of success
MB: ASUS M2NBP-VM CSM
CPU AMD 64X2 5000+
Graphics: Nvidia 8400 GS
SATA drive - Have a "version" of Leopard (10.5.2 -> 10.5.4 -> 10.5.5)
PATA drive - This is the drive I am trying to install the 10.5.6
4 GB 800 MHz RAM
PS2 Keyboard (wireless) and Mouse
Audio - Built in (AppleAzalia works well
Eth: Internal (nForceEthernetdriver works reasonably well) - Nvidia nForce 430B Gigabit
External - Ethernet-to-USB - works pretty well

Loaded base + chipset formy sata (detects it) + NVIDIA + PS2 fix + nForce + appl.
voodoo kernel + seabelt (i read AM==> voodoo + seabelt somewhere).
Mouse very slow and erratic.

Loaded base +chipset+ keyboard fix => Unable to detect KB and Mouse

I also have te problem of booting of the DVD, but I solved it by installing from the existing 10.5.5

Any way any suggestions greatly appreciated

Computer

Pentium M
Dell D600 laptop

Re1m0 02-28-2009 06:14 PM

video

All worked until i booted up the first time and it gives me a blue screen. i guess this is because of the video drivers. how can i delete them?

Taisto 02-28-2009 06:34 PM

Boot with -x so they won`t load, and remove them normally - browse to system/library/extensions with finder.
Or boot with -s, if you can`t make any changes - write mount -uw / , browse to extension folder and remove them manually with rm command.

Re1m0 02-28-2009 09:02 PM

ps2

Now i have a new problem- when i boot leopard, it shows the video and then gives a window that before you begin please connect a keyboard. I have a ps2 keyboard and put on the ps2 fixes too but still nothing...

Taisto 02-28-2009 09:09 PM

Try this thread.

http://www.infinitemac.com/f5/ps2-keyboard-error-t2268/

If it doesnt help, look at insanelymac.com for ps2 kexts, there are about 3 different versions, one of them should work.

Re1m0 02-28-2009 09:12 PM

how do i load this kext?

Taisto 02-28-2009 09:23 PM

Well, easiest way is to use this :

http://mac.softpedia.com/get/System-...t-Helper.shtml

You can also copy it manually but i`d suggest you to use the app.

Re1m0 02-28-2009 09:27 PM

But if i cant start os x it gives me the window that please connect keyboard. how can i use this kext helper?

zak 02-28-2009 11:54 PM

A catch 22 situation

Taisto 03-01-2009 02:56 PM

Yeah, 22, unfortunately. Well...i`d suggest that you borrow an usb keyboard from friend for an hour, or buy the cheapest one to solve it. It`d be the easiest way. You could also try downloading the kext onto pendrive, boot into installer and try to mount it and copy the kext with the terminal, i did something like that few months ago but was copying from the hdd, not the pendrive. i`m not sure if it`d be possible.

vladrxpx 03-01-2009 03:35 PM

just curious, it says in the important notes that :
- Default kernel installed is 9.6.0 Vanilla kernel

does this mean, that if i don't check anything in the kernels menu (while installing), i'll get the 9.6.0 vanilla kernel?

zak 03-01-2009 03:42 PM

Yes, this is what "default' implies. No choice selected = vanilla... sooo yummy

vladrxpx 03-01-2009 03:53 PM

thnx,
just wanted to be sure :-d

vladrxpx 03-02-2009 12:32 PM

erm, i have yet another (probably noobish) question.

Do I need to stay disconnected while I'm setting up os X after on first boot ever, so my information doesn't get sent to apple?

Does this matter? Will everything be ok even if I leave the ethernet cable plugged in ?

i've watched a clip where one guy said it has to be unplugged... maybe he was wrong ?

zak 03-02-2009 01:21 PM

@vladrxpx.
Plugged or not makes no diff. At registration form you can press Alt or Windowz key and Q which will give you a "skip" choice. Leave Apple ID blank.

donkypich 03-02-2009 03:04 PM

thanx i will test it but how download the iso?

note by Puttabong: Please do not ask for download links at InfiniteMac!

vladrxpx 03-02-2009 03:24 PM

just type in ipc 10.5.6 on google... :/ ;)

tacapaca 03-04-2009 12:03 PM

hy all, i tried to install IPC for several days now, and no luck. every time the installation is succesful, but when i press restart, i get a kernell panic. every single time, i tried to install only the basic. i tried so many combinations, that i forgot from were i started.

Please help. what can i do ....

I have and amd 4200 x2 64 bit CPU
6GB of RAM,
ATI Radeon x1650 Graphic card
MSI K9N Neo V2 mainboard

Artcool 03-04-2009 12:15 PM

iPC

Hi,

just to make shure.... you're on AMD...are you aware that you must choose Voodoo kernel when in AMD or SSE2 systems? And in this case you must choose too Seatbelt 9.5 ...

tacapaca 03-04-2009 12:18 PM

yes, at every install i choose the 9.5 voodoo kernel, because i'am on amd. as i told you after a get the message to restart, i wait for several seconds and the i get the kernel panic. and when my pc boots, after i press the restart button on my case, sometimes it shows me only the apple logo, sometimes, the apple logo and that moving thing, and sometimes, but this is rare, it showed me a blue screen.

sorandomitworks 03-04-2009 12:23 PM

Thanks

I just wanted to put a quick thanks to all. I have many computers two of which I am running osx86, the one I am referencing in this post has IPC running very well. I am using a phenom 940 3.0 GHz overclocked to 3.49 GHz all four cores are enabled. I am using a Tpower N750 Biostar motherboard with stock video. I apologize if I posted the wrong post in the wrong area. It was emphasized that I post and I didn't really know where to put this so this forum seem most logical. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask, I will reply in time.
