Try disabling your LAN port, and disconnecting the cable.

Hi,

finaly I have gotten myself a copy of the new 10.5.2 Zephyroth. Although I could not boot it to the installer (couldn't install it yet). When I put the DVD in it says to start up from the dvd press any key, or press f8 for start up options. Shouldn't this say to install MAC OS X not start up from DVD?

So I press any key and it goes into the nice apple bootscreen, but after 10-20 seconds it displays a black X in a circle in the center of the screen. So no luck, i tried booting with -x (safemode) but I get an error message:
EBIOS read error: Device timeout
Block 7110492 Sectors 64

Then after the error message, it does the same thing (goes into the apple bootscreen, but after 10-20 seconds it displays a black X in a circle in the center of the screen). So no luck. I am trying to install this on an IDE hard drive.

I was able to install Zephyroth 10.5.1 just fine although no sound, so I shouldn't have any problems (or so I thought). Do I have to install Leopord (10.5.1) first? I am just trying this on a formatted secondary hard drive.

Because i am still new to this I can't tell you all that much about my machine (specifications), but I can give you my pc's HP support webpage:

Please Help :)
Thanks and great job Zephyroth for finally releasing this (even though I have problems, I am sure it'll be great).
Delian

Everything is working great for me.. Thank you much to all who contributed to getting this finished..

I had to do MBR + EFI, as GUID i can never get to boot, just says b0 error ( and i did try using fdisk, as im familiar with this error - no luck).
Thats okay though- GUID has never worked before anyways

Athlon 64 x2 3800+
Abit KN8 Nforce4 Ultra
GeForce 7900 GT/KO
AC97 onboard
Linksys PCI wifi (bcm 4320)
2gb Corsair DDR 400 (shows as ddr 400 in "about this mac" should be 440 though, im overclocked)
Lite-On Lightscribe Burner (works!)

freshcuts 02-21-2008 10:34 PM

I tried everything and still no sound on my alc850.

I did the wiki audio guide.
I checked my dev id and it is included in the ac97 kext.
i tried installing azalia.
i tried different kexts.
I dont know what else i can do.i am a bit desperate for sound.
If anyone could help i would really appreciate it!

Hi Guys,

I also posted this to InsanelyMac forums.

Here is my problem:
I'm trying to install on a Shuttle SN85V30
Chipset: Nvidia nForce3 250 Single Chip for AMD AthlonTM 64 CPU
CPU: Sempron 3100+ Palermo (has SSE3)
2Go RAM (DDR 333MHz)
HD: 200Go Western Digital SATA
Video Card: eVGA NVidia GeForce 6200 LE

I start booting with the DVD, type F8 and -v -x to run in verbose + safe mode and i get a kernel panic exactly like this one:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=630228

Any idea what is going on with my configuration or with the boot CD? Any chance I can get it to work without changing the Video card and/or switching to IDE hard drive?

Thanks.

It's probably a little more useful if you list the actual onboard sound chip/codec - same with the onboard networking adapter. Or provide a link... Here's what I generally do:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131163
(newegg.com has an excellent selection and gives all kinds of info - especially on MB products.)

They show your onboard sound is: ADI AD1988b

I think I've seen references to that on insanelymac.com & someone here probably has some info about it...
They don't list the LAN chip(s) (I think your MB has 2...) but they DO have a link to the manufacturer:

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=M2N32-SLI%20Premium%20Vista%20Edition

where, if you still can't find the exact specs, you can usually download the Users Manual...

In the English version - on page 2-4 - it shows your networking adapters as:

2x Marvell 88E1116 gigabit LAN adapter

Again, someone here ( or at insanelymac ) will probably have more information on the Marvell chipsets.

(that wasn't too hard for me to find - still, it would have been much simpler if you had gotten that info out of your users manual in the first place. try to make it easy for people to help ;-) ... )
