Hey Lawless, Progress!!!

OK, so I installed windows 7 Beta, and then immediately booted into my Lawless PPC distro. Once installed I booted into the OS via the hard drive, which I can only do if i select change boot order and select the hard drive. It won't boot unless I do so, it gives me an error saying can't locate boot/Plist. I need to fix that so I can just push power and let it boot. When I booted it told me that my broadcom wireless card kexts arent working and need to be reinstalled. But the touchpad and keyboard built into the laptop were working. When I rebooted they weren't working anymore.

So I love the distro, worked great, I just need help with a couple of things

The laptop is a HP dv2125nr

Problems:

1. I can't boot directly into the HD, I have to press escape at first of boot to change boot device order, then I have to select the HD. I want to be able to power on the laptop and let it boot into the OS.

2. Built in touchpad and keyboard aren't working, I want to be able to use them, obviously.

3. Mini-PCI Broadcom Wi-Fi card doesn't work. Any suggestion on kexts to install?

I will keep you updated on my progress. Hope to hear some help soon.

Thanks everyone, and especially you LawlessPPC!!! Great distro!!!

ok when you boot next use the arguments -v -f at the darwin prompt screen if you have the ps2 kexts they should work. then get kexthelper and reinstall the needed ps2 kexts you'll find them you may need a different 1 for the touchpad worst case scenario plug a usb mouse in to do this and use mac built in on screen keyboard. This will give you the functions you need to be able to get touch pad and keyboard working

Try this for your wireless should work like an airport once done http://www.neonkoala.co.uk/index.php...eless&Itemid=3

Also you need to tell the bios to have your osx drive as the first one to boot from in boot devices. Thats entering the bios not just escape for temp drive boot. Probably get to the bios with f2 or delete. Then I would reinstall chameleon bootloader from within OSX

Update on HP dv2125nr Install

OK, I remember seeing PS2 kexts when booting in verbose. the weird thing is, the mouse and keyboard will work at random times, but never right after boot, and sometimes they don't work even if I leave the hack running for a couple of hours. And which kext would I install besides the one that is there?

I checked my wireless card and it is using the 4311 device id, so it is installed in the directory and running. When I did the steps after adding some other possible device id's it said that i didn't have permission, and I am logged in as the admin.

My hard drive is my first boot option in my bios, I think the problem is that I need to have "cpus=1" added to the boot.plist and can't figure out how to do that. Also when I just boot and let darwin do its thing, it gives me the error that it can't find com.apple.boot.plist.

Also, how would I reinstall chameleon bootloader from within OSX?

One more thing is that the audio works sporadically like the keyboard and mouse??? Not real sure, I figured it would be a working or nonworking thing all the time, not variably.

Sorry for being such a noob, I just really want this to work, and can't figure it all out on my own.

EDIT: Ok, found the com.apple.boot.plist and added the boot flags that I have to use to boot, namely -f cpus=1.

PangOS 02-12-2009 01:36 PM

Something broke.

Ok, after erasing and re-installing and updating I have a nice working install.

Except... Before when I installed, I installed sound by using an ALC883 Package I downloaded. It worked fine. Some installs afterward I used a driver and it gave me all the available ports, Included the Headphone and Mic Port at the front panel.

Now none of the drivers seem to work. System Profiler says:

Intel High Definition Audio:

Device ID: 0x1458A002
Audio ID: 883
Available Devices:
Line Out:
Connection: 1/8 inch Jack
Microphone:
Connection: Internal
Line In:
Connection: 1/8 inch Jack
Headphone:
Connection: 1/8 inch Jack
S/P-DIF Out:
Connection: Optical

but I have no sound, the option to show the vol control in the menu bar is there but upon enabling it there is just a blank space where it's supposed to be?

How do I remove those ALC883 packages and start over?

Or...fix my problem? :-/

LongN3ck 02-12-2009 05:46 PM

Kernel Panic?

After completing the install of Lawless PPC 10.5.4 I reboot and go through the Darwin bootloader then the Mac logo pops up with a pinwheel. Then it just stops, and eventually I get a message that says I need to reboot (in about 4 languages). So I reboot, and the same thing happens again. I tried -s and -v boot flags but they don't help. Can you provide some advice as to what to do next to get it up and running - this is the 1st distro where I've gotten this far.:D

OK the easy times are now over (this is not used to cause offense). You have all the information you need to move forward. Now you should be using google as searching for how to add kexts, kext helper, chameleon bootloader and all other things mentioned. The ps2.kext you would need is the same but unless permissions are set correctly they wont work correctly. So you should also be looking up how to set permissions. Half of a learning cure is the struggle and the research. This is why i have not just punched in the answers. Well I tell a lie but if you search everything I out in my previous post you would see they answer all.

Let me know how you go on

this is not a release specific issue and info on audio drivers/kext is abundant i have no way of knowing which kext you used previously all i know is if you get the alc883 package that i used on the distro you should click customise during the install all will become clear after that

No, I have not tried an IDE DVD drive. I don't have one. The message(s) I get when booting with -v are many... not sure what constitutes an error but here is a sampling of fishy looking stuff before my screen goes blank:

AppleNForce found 0 units
mDNS responder[27]: couldn't read user-specified local host name; using.....
IOKitWaitQuiet() timed out wiating for kernel symbols
AppleNForce found 0 units

then it goes to a black screen and I have to reboot

I also tried -v -f with the same result. I did a little bit of poking around and found this kext IOATAFamily.kext. Will this help me?

UPDATE:
I retried this installation with a 100GB USB drive - it worked! I was booted into the mac video and set up my system. No sound, no Ethernet. Now that the system is working, can I install additional kexts and eventually transfer the image to another HDD? I realize you don't have time to provide me with all the answers, but a short response is appreciated - this is my first successful install of OSX86. Thanks Lawless!

LawlessPPC 02-14-2009 01:18 PM

now you having booting on usb which is the best way to do it if you have any issues. I would start to install all your needed kexts with kext helper. So you need to look up kexts for your chipset to get ide/sata working. Youll know if you are successfull because all your other drives will appear. Then you would need to boot of the dvd again and make an dmg with disk utility accessable from the menu. Then boot from your usb drive and restore to another partition or drive with disk utility again then install chameleon to that partition and that should be that but when you boot from the new partition boot with -v -f just to refresh the boot cache.

did you verify the disk after burning?

leonardodemarco 02-15-2009 04:55 PM

Yes

Yes, i've tested de Disk , and the verification was ok , consistency of the disk was ok too ... that messagem occurred after the verification of the disk in the proccess of installation , my partition was in the format fat32 , this may have affected de proccess?
And i not seen many examples of installations made with Phenomx3 processors that succeeded. This is the second Distro that dos'n work.

Im new with this and need some suport .

Sorry about my bad english, and thankyou!

you need to use the disk utility in osx install dvd to prepare your drive to partition it this will also format the disk to hfs which is the macs native format fat32 wont work thats your issue

leonardodemarco 02-16-2009 02:41 AM

OK

I'll do what you told me and then tell you what happened.
Thanks for the support!

Back with same problem

Hi Lawless,

I'm back, but with bad news. Now I can't get my USB drive to boot anymore - something happened with mounting the GUID in windows and overwriting it with MBR. Now I can't seem to get disk utility to re-format it with HFS+ no matter how I go about it.

So I plugged in an old IDE drive 80GB Western Digital. I re-ran the install and put it to that disk (no problem formatting or anything) added some custom kext from the menu that I think match my hardware, but I still get the IOWait error on verbose mode booting from any drive. The funny thing is that the one time I got it working off USB drive I could see all of my other media (DVD drive -with the install disk in, and my other 2 HDD SATA). How do I get past this error?

IOKitWaitQuiet() timed out wiating for kernel symbols
AppleNForce found 0 units

Can I patch your install dvd with an additional kext? What is your take on the situation?

Yes. I've tried that to no avail. It seems to just sit there with the progress bar not moving for 20min every time I try to use Disk Utility. I even tried using Disk Utility on a powerbook G4 to fix this issue, and using Mac Drive to reformat, which apparently was successful, but the drive is still not recognized when I get to the install screen. However, I can repartition or reformat any other ATA based drives either Parallel or Serial.

I can use any other disk reformatting/partitioning software (i.e. acronis or paragon) to create other partition types, but can't seem to put the HFS+ on this drive (though it worked once). I'll keep playing with it and let you know if I get it working. In the mean time is there a work-around for the IOKitWait?

you need to search for the ps2 kexts then get kext helper this takes the hardwork out of it

LawlessPPC rocks!

Hi to all

just in 20' I managed to go from empty to fully installed and almost everything working :)
The installer finished and on reboot I got the firewire, the 2 LAN cards (nvidia + marvell), the usb disk (ntfs formatted), usb keyboard/mouse (logitech).

many thanks to LawlessPPC for the excellent work!

Still have the major issue: ATI HD3450. Currently it goes as 1024x768 and should be 1280x1024. In system identification I get "ATI" and the pci ids, "Core Image: Software" and "Quartz Extreme: Not supported".

So here are my questions:

a) do you have any news on the HD3450 driver? Will it ever be produced? Who is working on it?
b) what is the situation on Apple System Update? I already got it flashing once - do I proceed with updates normally or will it brick my system?

Thanks a lot for your answers

last i heard was hd3450 upport was invomplete try netkas site for more info. Unless you start running the voodoo kernel you will need to patch updates before you apply them its best to use the voodoo kernel

For the ATI I'll go to netkas, thanks for the info. I need more help on the voodoo kernel stuff though :-/

I got the kernel, and on the installer it mentions something about a decrypter :'( that is not part of the package and I have to deal with it!!! :'( Can someone give pointers on what this stuff is and how do I get it? or this is very n00bie for this thread? Maybe PM me..? Thanks

no problem your being cautious i take no issue with that. The decrypter it is on about is dsmos.kext you already have that so you can go right ahead and make use of the kernel. I must admit its nice to see someone making use of the readme's

Hd4850

Lawless,

Im in OSX now , and i have a issue with the HD4850 . i have a 1440x900 monitor and getting 1024x768 , how i get the driver ~:'(

Many Thanks Lawless.

Another 780G here now running OSX. SB700 kext is a must! My install setup was with IDE dvd drive and a SATA hdd running on Native IDE. Install took 20 minutes.

One thing I noticed is OSX only reporting 1 core instead of 3 for my Phenom Triple Core. Do I need to apply some patch for 3 cores to work?

Thanks

thagg1975 02-20-2009 04:08 PM

Hi Lawless,
can you have a look here for a problem I have w/rgds ACPI? Seems the 10.5.6 upgrade has overwritten something from the kexts used and now no shutdown/reboot/sleep is possible. Other things are alright...

if you look in activity monitor you'll see that there is a graph for every core. About this mac relies on smbios.kext this can be replaced to be more accurate. Trust me its using all cores just about this mac doesnt know about them

You were right. Activity monitor is showing 3 cores.

Another question. Can i run Mac OS update like to install 10.5.5 via the Software Update? or that will mess up my current install?

Thanks

If you`re on Intel and running Voodoo kernel, it should be ok. If you`re on AMD - even using the Voodoo kernel it could mess...better try to patch the combo update with Zephyroth`s patcher. Try on your test OS first cause it always can go wrong.

As Taisto said, it depends on your machine. amd needs patched files, either with zephs updater or realtime patching with voodoo kernel. i did update via zeph first and installed kernel later as it said in the readme voodoo is having proplems with a system prior to 10.5.5.

The update of lawlees to 10.5.5 went really smooth, 10.5.6 is a pain in the arse so far ;)

EDIT: patched combo update to 10.5.7 worked ;)

Hello every1 and greetings from Italy! I'm getting this image now as I've had pbms so far with kalyway-ideneb-leo4all (no HD detected at install) so nowhere to install at disk utility screen. My hardware report is attached, any hint as to which items I should choose at install? If the sata hd is not recognized how can i solve this? Thanks for all the support, I'll be glad to share my experiences after installing! :)

A Extensions.mkext compilated for sb700

Hello everyone, sorry to bother, I am trying to install the distro (LawlessPPC-Leo-10.5.4-Phenom & AMD) in a motherboard with southbridge sb700, but nowhere is a "Extensions.mkext" compiled for this disto, so I ask if I can compile a please because I do not have Mac OS or know anyone who has one. Or can point me where can I download one.

I appreciate your help
Sorry for my English (not my native language).

First of all thanks alot for the effort.. I really appreciate your work.
Below is my configuration, the whole CPUZ dump..

Please let me know whether I will be able to install it without any hassle or not...

Its going to complete in 2-3 hours. then i will try..

Also, please let me know how can I install it from a USB drive rather than burning it on DVD..

thanks

How hard will it be to install on this system? (See attached picture) Video card is an Nvidia 7800GT PCI-E. HD is 250GB SATA. If you need any other info just ask. Thanks!

I'm not really the guy to ask about this stuff but I think that "waiting for root device" means the setup doesn't have the drivers for your dvd drive or sata. Do a Google search for "OS X waiting for root device" or something similar.
