Hi, I want to update from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6.
Is it possible only to use the ipc OSx86 10.5.6 Intel AMD SSE2 SSE3, which is includded on the disc, 463 mb?

I've tried AMD software updater. But when detecting cpuid, it gave error.

I've tried this method.

Installing PC_EFI v9 with Universal OSX86 installer. This worked.
But DSDT Patcher Gui, none of them worked, gave failures.
But i did the software update, not with ASU, and system doesn't work anymore. I will try a clean install with iPC OSx86 Leopard 10.5.6 Intel AMD SSE2 SSE3.

You may be on to something. I'm new at this so I don't recall which bootloader I selected.

Given my specs which bootloader would you recommend?

the EFIv9 is (supposedly) the new chameleon but I haven't verified this myself. I think the old chameleon is fine yet too, but we'll see some cool features being put into the newer bootloaders soon.

I also wanted to add that on CD boot at the f8 screen I entered "-f -x -v". Now I did this on each install attempt with the same end result - the BomFileError message mentioned earlier.

I also tried to select as little as I could on the customize screen during install. I think the last attempt I simply selected the Voodoo kernel 9.5.0 since I have an AMD cpu.

Other than that there isn't much more I can add.

I did patch the 10.5.6 ISO with ppf1 and ppf2.

Any help is appreciated.

ppf2 isn't really needed by your system. have you checked the md5 to verify everything patched ok?

Just so we are on the same page. I booted the PC with the DVD iso in place. Clicked F8 and entered "-v" then hit enter. After that I eventually get to the customize menu. From there I only selected the Voodoo kernel and seatbelt patch. I then selected the Apple enforce drivers since that was the only option that looked like it matched my chipset (nforce, see signature).

Am I missing something?

Oh I forgot to mention I have a USB mouse and a PS2 keyboard.

Yes I verified the checksum after applying the ppf1 and ppf2 patches to the iso.

I'm not sure what might be going on here.

Thanks

for me only works on pentium d on a asus 945gz motherboard with the voodoo kernel. i thought on intel hardware it should work with the vanilla kernel. anyway, it works great with the voodoo kernel, i'm just curios why it does not work with vanilla.

Could somebody check if the same errors I explained here are occuring on your system? I tested iDeneb 10.5.5 and updated with an unpatched 10.5.6 update and got the same problems in 'About this Mac' and System Profiler/Hardware. I tried an update with an package patched by Zephyroth's updater, there these problems didn't happen (but there were enough others :-P ). This is mainly on AMD CPUs I think. Ideal testers would be on Socket 939.

I don't have yours problem with 'About this mac'.
But i got the same others erros than you :
- the finder preference dialog make finder crash (v10.5.8)
- the keyboard/mouse prefpanes won't correctly load, and when it happens to load, it shows prefs for notebook keyboard and trackball.

So, how to do restore finder to version 10.5.6?

you don't need to use ASU to update from 5.5 to 5.6. just read this:

@alxdabrazil:

Open on your boot drive and look in /System/Library/CoreServices, there's the finder. replace it with a version from 10.5.5. To change the preferences pane, look in /System/Library/PreferencePanes and replace Keyboard.prefpane with a normal one. Maybe you have to repair permissions with Disk Utility.

Does the System Profiler show all hardware information about your CPU and so? There's an error on my system. What do you have for a system, do you have AMD or Intel? What kernel are you using, 9.5.0 or 9.6.0. Plz add your system specs in your signature.

i got iPC running!! But..

i first of all installed it with nvkush and 0.2.1 512mb package in the installation and my nVidia 8500gt card worked, it supported the transpancy, my ideal resolution etc. except that when i go to any full screen program, ie. front row or iTunes visualizers i don't get the nice fade in/ fade out full screen effect.
i've also tried the 9f23 installer from nvinstallers and right after that the efi studio but no luck. can anyone direct me on what to do? or should i downgrade to 10.5.4, with my previous install disk. running 9.5.0 voodoo kernel. chameleon boot loader with the custom picture. i have AMD.

my specs are found at:
