Just got the 10.5.1 release to be stable yesterday, but just couldn't hold back from installing 10.5.2. Don't know if this was right, but I installed this directly over 10.5.1 w/ no formatting / erasing of the partition. It booted right up, no problem. Bootloader used "EasyBCD" - Very simple to setup. All previous settings still in place and all devices (except sound) working. Heck this update even fixed the cursor video distortion from 10.5.1 which I experienced. Thank you and nice work Zephyroth.

My system: If it helps -

OS: MacOSX Leopard 10.5.2 (Zephyroth)
CPU: AMD Opteron 1212 - 2GHZ
Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-M61P-S3 / NVIDIAŽ GeForce 6100 / nForce 430 chipset
Mem : 3 GB DDR
Graphics : ATI 128mb Radeon x300
Audio : Realtek ALC883 Audio Codec
Ethernet : Realtek 8139
Hard drives: IDE w/ Vista - SATA w/ Leopard
DVD : Atapi

macprodan 02-19-2008 03:48 AM

Zeph how can I incorporate Medvil kext for sata support. Also any other things I should do (EFI , NVInject). Machine I will be using this DVD on is below. I am not a Hack or Mac noob so do not worry about breaking it down into noob speak. Thanks.

P.S I will edit the DVD on a Mac if I need to.

The same thing happened to me (if you read the previous posts of mine). I simply moved the mouse and the progress bar moved to the present state. I don't think it is really something to worry about. The installation is not freezing, guranteed. Hope this helps. :-)

Quote:

[cite] Rajmahal783:[/cite]Has this happened to anybody yet, I have a HP DV2415nr Laptop, 1.8 gig turion x2 processor, broadcom wireless, NVIDA Geforce GO 6150 Graphics. 150 gig SATA Hardrive, 80 gig Maxtor USB Harddrive (Leopard). Ok my question is I go through the installation, select custom, 9.2.0 kernel, MBR-EFI, Broadcom Drive. Deselect, languages and fonts. Installation goes fine till the very end at the point of "about a min", its a half a inch from finishing, but then everything stops. The installation bar, dvd, and harddrive. Mouse still moves but I can't do anything. Ok so I do a cold shutdown. And then restart, I boot from the USB Harddrive and the Bootloader comes up and starts to load up leopard, And it comes up and everything seems ok. My question is as in 10.5.1 by zeph it freezing at about a min to go was a known issue and the solution was to go back into the installer not changing anything and letting it install the missing files. I didn't do that in 10.5.2 since it loaded. Should I go back and do that? Thanks.

macprodan 02-19-2008 04:29 AM

Thanks man. :)

dred 02-19-2008 04:40 AM

I have followed the post about SATA install and I still can't get past "can't find root device". I put on a IDE HDD booted with the install disk, went to the terminal and mad the SATA partition active. I installed the Leopard and on reboot it wouldn't boot into the SATA drive. Any suggestions?

motherboard - K9N Platnium
HDD - estern digital 500 GB

macprodan 02-19-2008 04:57 AM

Might be dumb but I cant seem to mount it read write. I am following this to the letter.

1. hdiutil attach /"Leopard.iso" -readwrite
2. Download this zip ----> _http://rapidshare.com/files/92865467/Extensions.zip.html
3. Extract it in the Libary folder of the DVD.
4. Remove the Extensions.mkext file.
5. Add the kext you want in the Extensions folder.
6. Fix the permissions on the newly added kext.
7. Recreate the mkext file that way ----> kextcache -a i386 -K /Volumes/"DVD"/mach_kernel -m /Volumes/"DVD"/System/Library/Extensions.mkext /Volumes/"DVD"/System/Library/Extensions

Eject, then boot

eard 02-19-2008 04:58 AM

puttabong one question men :)
that Medevil kext is the kext that appear in insanelymac for recognize hd sata? I thought that the new 10.5.2 DVD had sata support :S or how is it? But if that's the case, i can't install tiger/leopard yet and i cant follow the how to in osx86 wiki, so from windows, how can i inject the kext? I read that from transmac but im not sure, what you recommend?
Tnx for readme :)
eard

macprodan 02-19-2008 05:00 AM

Done it.. Doh.. as homer would say... hehe

zephyroth 02-19-2008 05:00 AM

macprodan ----> the latest MeDevil's kext is already included in the release. Don't trust those who said that it's not.

You know why ? I'm using it ...

flip360 02-19-2008 05:01 AM

Well first of all i have to say ZEPHYROTH you are the man. Thanks for your hard work for doing us the amd users a BIG favor :)
All is working well, ToH 9.2.0, NvInject, Nforce5, all but the forcedeth and ALC883 kexts...for the first one i have a solution: Realtek 8139 network card :) and for the second one i think i installed the ALC883 codec from tiger, so all is well now and i am writing this from my amd leo !!! yeah. Again, Thanks Zephyroth hope you help us some more in the future :)

my specs:

AMD Athlon64 X2 +3800
MSI K9N Platinum Nforce 570 Ultra
2GB DDR800 PQI
Nvidia 7600GST DDR3 128Mb

Could you upload your ALC883?,It is not fully working and I want to try that...

zephyroth 02-19-2008 05:06 AM

Yes, give us the link so I could add it in a future fix/update.

dred 02-19-2008 05:06 AM

Zephyroth I first just want to thank you for all your hard work.

Do you have any suggestions on how to do a new install on a SATA drive?

macprodan 02-19-2008 05:08 AM

Oh , O.K Thank. Zeph.. no need to mess with the DVD then.

zephyroth 02-19-2008 05:11 AM

yeaah that's why I removed it ...

And you didn't have to add the latest MeDevil's kext as it's already included. If it's not working try to replace it with the one from 10.5.1.

Create a folder named Extensions on your Desktop
Unpack the mkext in this folder
EDIT: mkextunpack -v -d /Users/"YOU"/Desktop/Extensions /Volumes/"YOUR ISO"/System/Library/Extensions.mkext
Remove the MeDevil's kext
Replace with the one from 10.5.1
Fix the permissions

type

kextcache -a i386 -K /Volumes/"Your ISO"/mach_kernel -m /Users/"YOU"/Desktop/Extensions.mkext /Users/"YOU"/Desktop/Extensions

and place the newly mkext in the ISO

@Zephyroth :thank you very much for this great release!
Excuse me for repeating my self but maybe you have an idea on what seems to be the problem with my sound.
I have no sound and the device is not recognized.
I have an asus a8n sli premium with alc850.
I tried installing with the ac97 kexts once and then with the azelia ones.
I dont have a clue on what to do.Everything else works great and the install is really easy and fast(30mins).
Thank you very much

zephyroth 02-19-2008 05:50 AM

I have ALC850 too and it works fine with AC97 driver ...

did you tried too fix the permissions ?

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAC97Audio.kext
chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAC97Audio.kext

did you tried too add your dev-id in AppleAC97Audio.kext/Contents/Info.plist ?

braindead803 02-19-2008 06:00 AM

do i need to install efi with the 9.2.0 kernel. after my previous 5 installs i get the hanging _ cursor just like did with 10.5.1, what am i doing wrong. I formatted MBR. this is my install options as of sitting on my installer now:

ToH kernel 9.2.0, AC97 Audio Drivers, Nforce 2/3/4/5 chipset, Nvidia 10.5.2 kexts, NVinject Go, Forcedeth driver, Broadcom Driver... I was wondering if i need efi? Or is there a way to get passed the flashing cursor

macprodan 02-19-2008 06:02 AM

I have a SSE3 capable X2 3800 Do I select TOH Kernel 9.2.0 or leave it unchecked.?

I have a 7800 GT 256mb Do I select NVInject 256 or nVidia 10.5.2 Kexts or Both.?

thanks for replying!
i didnt try to fix the permissions.
I installed by ticking ac97 at the menu.
Since it didnt work i installed the ac97 kext of another user by using kext helper and then i restarted.
I thought that kext helper repairs permissions too..?
i didnt add my dev id on the kext.i thought its done automatically (lol)...
I checked my dev id on windows XP and is a bit weird...I dont see anywhere alc850 but i am sure that is the chipset i got.

zephyroth 02-19-2008 06:07 AM

@Macprodan

You can try the 9.2.0 Kernel, my cpu is SSE3 (Athlon X2 4200+) and it works.

You must select BOTH.

@braindead

If you selected a bootloader then EFI is already installed.
Did you installed Leo on a partition which already contains another OS ?

braindead803 02-19-2008 06:09 AM

@zephyroth

i whiped the whole hdd. so i could do a clean install of leopard. so i whiped out vista. and formatted to hfs+ journaled. this is the set up i have sitting on my screen tell me if its a go or no.

ToH kernel 9.2.0, AC97 Audio Drivers, Nforce 2/3/4/5 chipset, NVinject Go, Forcedeth driver, Broadcom wireless Driver, efi v8 for MBR

zephyroth 02-19-2008 06:10 AM

Seems good.

My setup is ToH kernel 9.2, AC97 Audio Drivers, NForce 2/3/4/5, NVinject 640 + NVIDIA KEXTS (don't forget to check it too) + forcedeth + efi v8 mbr

macprodan 02-19-2008 06:15 AM

Looking, Good so far,

Selected: ToH kernel 9.2.0, AC97 Audio Drivers, Nforce 2/3/4/5 chipset, NVinject 256, Forcedeth driver, SKGE, Broadcom wireless Driver, efi v8 for MBR

This seems to be the best hackintosh DVD ever made.

Got a Tiger Partition still Incase I ever need it, wont get rid of her for a while yet on the hack. The hack is mainly used by my parents as a Browsing computer and by me as a file server. :) Gotta keep them up to date.

braindead803 02-19-2008 06:15 AM

do i need to check the nvidia 10.5.2 kexts. last install i did it just left me with a hanging cursor. and the install was similar but had more drivers in stalled.

zephyroth 02-19-2008 06:20 AM

You MUST check BOTH NVIDIA KEXT AND NVINJECT

braindead803 02-19-2008 06:21 AM

ok i will install right now to see if any difference. what do i do if i get the hanging cursor again? because that is the only thing holding me back. and right when i booted the dvd again i went to disk utility and erased the harddrive and partitioned it again

zephyroth 02-19-2008 06:27 AM

I don't know ...
Maybe reinstall again without selecting any kernel so mach_kernel 9.0.0 SSE2/SSE3 will be installed.

7eventh 02-19-2008 06:28 AM

Ha ... finally ... got it up and running.
System is running fast and stable. Netsurf without freeze (as you can see).
Only 3 problems left (actually 2 of those are the same as under 10.5.1):

- No QE/CI with my Quadro FX 3400 :(
- Only one core recognized (I hope this is not the fix for the netsurf-freeze ... I hoped for a more elegant solution )
- Samsung S203B S-ATA DVD is not recognized :( (worked without problem under 10.5.1)

Any ideas on how to get my system really perfect ? ;)

(A8N5X,Opteron 165, 2GB, Quadro FX3400)

Ah, and BTW ... THANK YOUUUUUU ! ;)

seren 02-19-2008 06:29 AM

How did you get the forcedeth driver to be stable without running with cpus=1?

Quote:

Darn it... I feel as if 'm missing the party... Can someone confirm getting QE/CI working for nVidia 7600GS on an nForce4 platform? I have an ASUS7600GS (256MB) on an A8NSLI SE mobo, and I'm stuck on a light blue screen after install (nVidia drivers+nvinject 256)...

cgsheen 02-19-2008 06:38 AM

@zephyroth
Why can't I get a bootable disk out of the install using 9.2.0, GUID, & EFI? Do I HAVE to partition MBR? I've tried 4 times now with GUID and the install actually completes without stalls, I get the "big green check mark" & reboot but the Install drive won't boot (even though the Disk Utility says it is bootable...). fdisk doesn't work (doesn't even show the right partition info - Disk Utility does though). I missed something on how to make GUID partition 2 bootable, didn't I? Something stupidly simple?

I got over the light blue screen after restarting and boot with -x .... creating an account ... start again without any option.
But QE/CI stays a dream for me .. hope you have more luck ;o)

o yes yes, i've got it installed on my PC, scratch my last post. posting this from OS X if someone could help me out in getting my 1800xl and creative soundblaster extreme music working that would be awesome. current specs are:

LANPARTY UT nForce4 Ultra-D
AMD Opteron 148 2.2 ghz single core S939
ATI 1800XL 256 MB
creative soundblaster extreme music

my previous problem was that i selected MBR on a guid partition.. dumb on my behalf thanks everyone!
