Which release to install? Have had previous problems!
 

Hi all,

I have a Laptop that i've been trying to get OSx86 on to but i cannot get it to work. I tried heaps of releases but allways got the same problem.

This thread was made on the original forum before the update and there are many details within it about the versions i tried etc.

The rundown:
Hardware:
HP Compaq 6715b laptop
AMD Turion64 X2 [2.2ghz] [supports SSE,SSE2, SSE3, MMX, 3DNOW and x86-64]
2GB DDR2 667 [5-5-5-15]
ATI X1250 graphics card
ATI RS690 Chipset / SB600 southbridge
SATA 250GB Samsung HDD
DVD-RAM burner
Other usual laptop hardware [card reader etc]

My BIOS is very limited, no RAID/ACPI options, overclocking or any thing other advance [unlike my quad core gaming system]

I have tried iAtkos, modded iAtkos, Zephroyth 10.5.2 - and modifyed version of it, kalaway and others - i realise that kalaway wouldn't work as it's intel based - but i thought i would try anyhow, and i always got the same error:

"immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components, use only one style"


Just wondering if there is a new release i should try - 10.5.5 out yet on the Hackintosh? as it's my download night tonight so i have a bit of downloads to waste.

Any suggestions welcome!

Well Leo4Allv3 had a great assortment of customizable drivers but it is 10.5.2. They are going to be making a new 10.5.5 soon (not the Server edition). iDeneb is another one... if you're looking for a recent 10.5.5 thats the way to go with driver support, but beware it has been customized from the beginning of the Installer so it doesn't have the native feel to it as much. Still works though. If you can wait a little longer, iPC is going to be debuting soon. That should have the newer kernels and everything.

Well i can download tonight or in a months time......

I tried inserting custom drivers but couldn't find th right ones - and the ones i did find didn't fix the problem......
So i should look for a 10.5.5 edition now?
What do you mean by "Non-native" feel?

I tried Leo4All also - that didn't work wither - i cannot get the disc to boot with any of the editions - let alone get to the installer

Bootloader starts then goes for about 4 seconds - then stops
If i don't have verbose on - the apple logo comes up - the spinning thing spins around maybe one then it keeps spinning but the HDD stops doing, disk spins down and just sits there.

EDIT: also - just added my system details to my SIG - and they are not appearing????

Bump - will not be able to download the disk till next month now - any other suggestions?
Is there any new releases suppost to come out in the next month?

when you are booting the install DVD up, use the boot flags "-f -x -v" as this will force the Extensions folder to be read, boot into safe mode (for the installer you need nothing more), and verbose mode so you can see what is going wrong.

when you are done customizing and installing follow some procedures on this page of the old wiki for some major help. This was the biggest help to me when I was first getting started.

I have tried with every single flag i could find on the web - i will try it again in ~30 minutes - but i would think it will be the same result.

As i said - i cannot even get to the installer - no matter what parameters i try :(

maybe you just burned it wrong. maybe try reburning it to a dvd making sure you are burning an image, because this happened to me. there was an error while burning and the DVD didnt boot.

Have you tried to install any of newer linux distros on that laptop, like ubuntu? Telling you that cause it would tell you at booting process if there is a BIOS bug at your laptop. Its pretty much usual nowadays at some laptops even at some desktop motherboards. The bios bug means that bios is simply not releasing some of the functions needed by the OS. Some laptops that come with pre-installed Vista have that kind of bug in their bios'. Linux would report it but then skip it and continue with installing process. OSX is definitely not, which leads to immediate system hang.

I am not 100% positive but it seems to me that's the case. So if you tried all the methods and booting options, and you are not even reaching 'waiting for root device', and there are a very few options in BIOS to experiment with, IMHO that laptop can't run OS-X. Of course, this doesnt mean its true, you can still try with some newer Leo distro or search some forums like insanelymac for posts with similar problems.

Images for all the disks i tried was burnt fine - they get to the installer on my gaming system (in sig) - well the intel based images do at least

Havent tried the Linux distros (and i have a download limit of 3gb a month - so cannot download much at all)
I have a feeling it has to do with the laptops configing of the HDD in ACHI mode maybe?
The bios is - well HP laptop - you can guess
(extremely limited) - in other words - nothing

Yes i took a glance of your posts and replies at insanelymac before i posted here for the first time. In my opinion its the bios fault why you cant boot.
Yes, disk(s) in sata->ahci mode can help you reach the installer and install os-x on your hdd before you install driver for your chipset so you can set hdd in native->ide mode later, or keep ahci mode. But you dont have such an issue here, cause you are not reaching the installer at all. I have SB600 chipset and ahci mode is needed to install OSX, you are right about that. But when it comes to it, you can inject the driver into dvd installation and boot with it (if its not possible to switch to ahci).
We (i mean you) have a very delicate situation here. I still blame the bios for it, maybe some of ACPI seetings in it.

** From my personal experience, i have one laptop which is totally unsupported. I am running Tiger on it. It doesnt support any newer efi bootloader even with older (like efi 5) it sometimes boot and sometimes just restarts itself. Its all because of the BIOS. I switched to tiger cause leopard is a bit more demanding and my gfx is also unsupported (like i said totally unsupported) so running in vesa 3.0 not much of fun. After all it looks to me like pushing an elephant into matchbox, it simply won't go, more problems than a real fun, not even for everyday easy tasks like browsing internet, email, etc. Its intel dualcore (like the first macbooks) so theoretically i could run vanilla kernel, Via chipset is supported, but bios is blocking me. So i switched it back to its default vista installation and my wife is enjoying it now playing Zootycoon and Age of Empires 1 ;-)

Maybe some of the other guys could come up with some idea how you can solve your issue, if its possible. What i would do if i was you, is stick to your desktop box. It looks to me like capable of running vanilla and enjoy all the benefits of 100% mac.
