Was a long and difficult way to upgrade at 10.5.3... now with the great Zephyrot's work, most of us had success.
Any comment about differences and feelings about upgrade? I made a benchmark with xbench and returned me a 132 points... something less than 10.5.2, but i think it's graphic driver's fault. Also this morning i had some system's hanging... opening a window asked a long time, and then the window on the desktop was empty and transparent. Give feedback... |
I haven't had any glitches on my system so far, and everything is running smoothly. I updated to 10.5.3 two days ago and run OS X exclusively on my AMD machine. I did use the Nvidia kexts from 10.5.2 and the sound kexts I had for my ALC888. So far so good here.

I had problems updating my 10.5.2.Zephyroth install. My system wouldn't boot after 10.5.3 update. I preformed a fresh install with LeoforAllV3 ran AU .5 and it worked fine. I have lost QE but i installed the latest nvinject added my device id to geforce.kext and everything was working again. I also installed the latest AMD 9.3.0 without any problem. I don't actually notice any major improvement, but I'm happy my system is fully updated. I may start to use my Hackintosh for fun now. Hopefully we'll be fine with these updates for a while.

After upgrade, I use Marvin's Util to check the whole disk, and find an upgraded file with cpuids:
/usr/libexec/oah/translate and I cannot fix it, what about yours? I also can not use 9.3.0 modbin kernel, just like 9.2.2 modbin kernel, instant kernel panic, any solutions for this? |
So... today i restored 10.5.2 image and restart the 10.5.3 upgrade from scratch...
Used AmdSoftwareUpdate by Zeph, obviously and worked great man!!!, ticked "modify only" option. Log wrote: Code:
47 of 47 visited files were successfully patched. System restart once and then restart again. Now system suffer of a kernel panic cpu... restart again and finally login.. all seemed ok but... usb wireless keyboard and mouse was unusable. Picked up usb wired mouse and restart.. now usb wireless worked, my ad1988b audio controller (this is normal i think) was not working, so i installed the taruga's rev.3 patch, when patch finished after a while system completely freezed. Hardware reset and now seems to be ok, even sound but, i have a sensation of instability... don't know, it's like a feeling inside myself. Maybe it's kernel. Is it possible keep 9.2 kernel on 10.5.3? I'm sure i'll not erase my 10.5.2 disk image for some time... |
system is running great and thats all i got to say about that

First time I had to reinstall the system due to some error after this update, so I tried Leo4Allv3 and it worked great!. Then I tried again to update but zephyroth's SU failed... so I tried again and YES!!!! made the package and installed later, rebooted with -X cause my video wasn't working (although I use gfx string) and installed the 10.5.2 kexts from Leo4All DVD.
Now I have my updated system 10.5.3 with 9.3 modbin kernel. Thanks to all thoes who helped building this great tools.!!!! |
@gipo: My XBench Score increased by 2-3 points. Other than that, the system is still rock solid, just like 10.5.2 before the upgrade. I love it. :-)
http://dev.infinitemac.com/gfx_efi_string.png I did not have to manually install an injecter, because I already used an EFI string. My graphic card is detected as "NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT" and works fine. http://dev.infinitemac.com/gfx_specs.png Specs (The machine was never built for OSx86 use, it's several years old): Quote:

Yeah, I'm having a problem here, look at my other thread, and please share your ideas. I ran out of them, since virtually don't have any access to the O/S except for the contents located in that partition. Thanks.
|
I dunno. I'm having really mixed feelings. My system feels really slow and not responsive at all. Mostly the internet., but everything I do seems quite a bit slower than before.
I installed over a fresh Zeph 10.5.2 Rev2 install. Booted into the install, Downloaded ASU and updated. XBench results are about 10 or so lower, but I was in the middle of torrenting so that prolly threw it off a bit. I dunno, I'm gonna give it some time, but I might be reinstalling 5.2 soon. |
I just installed the 9.3.0 kernel using the Kayaway package but unable to reboot due to a kernel panic, does any one have any ideas?
note: This was after I successfully upgrade to 10.5.3 using Zephyroth's AU .5 upgrade utility. System: Motherboard:Asus M2n32-sli deluxe 3 gig ddr2 memory AMD Athlon 4200+ CPU Graphic card:nVidia 7600gs 256mb |
@bajanboy - boot in verbose mode with -v and let us know the what the cause of the panic is.
Do you have the xcode developer tools installed by chance? |
@Voyn1x - Thx for responding.
Yes I do have xcode dev tools installed, does this cause problems with kernel upgrades?, also I booted in -v and cant really make any sense of the output and unable to capture any of the output but I did make a note of some of the output. I hope that this can give you enough to help. dsmos: Initializing dsmos:Boot and decryption contexts set ! panic(cpu 1 caller 0x001A8CD4) kernel trap at 0x477b1618, type 13=general protection registry error code : 0x00000000 kernel loadable modules at backtrace with dependancies) com.apple.iokit .CHUDKernelLib (15618)@0x477b000 is there anyway that the -v output can be piped to a file? Thanks, |
Hi bajanboy,
boot in safe mode -x, run from somewhere in Developer directory chud-uninstaller, and reboot. all will be fine. If you can't fnd the uninstaller, just remove all the chud kexts in the extensions folder. :) it's something to do with the current modbin 9.3.0 kernel being just bin patched to work on hackintosh ie. not an offical release. I had the same problem when I upgraded to 9.2.2, before that i had no problems at all. |
Hi Voyn1x,
I could not find the chud-uninstaller but was albe to delete all of the CHUD kexts but still getting the kernel panic. I remember having this problem trying to install 9.2.2 but never really tried harder. I would really like to get this to work, as I said I upgraded to 10.5.3 without any issues. I also have Leo running on another drive so I can play this without causing any problems. Is this because of the xcode tools that are installed? Do you have any more suggestons? thx |
Firstly make sure you've removed all chud kexts and that the kernel panic is still caused by the chud framework.
Secondly try flushing the kext cache by booting with -f Yes the chud framework is installed as part of the xcode :) |
Hi bajanboy,
as Voyn1x said correctly, if you still see the same kernel panic then you didn't delete the chud kexts properly. So you should try it once again! Here's a link: http://www.infinitemac.com/kernel-panic-after-installing-xcode-on-osx86/ |
I just reinstalled 10.5.2 on my main desktop computer after having done some upgrades to it and our other computers. I tried out Zephyroth's ASU and it installed the 10.5.3 upgrade perfectly. I even loaded the 9.3 modbin kernel after that worked so well. Looks great to me. Here's how my Desktop looks now (previously this MB was in my HTPC):

Hi Voyn1x and Puttabong,
Thank you both for your help. Well the CHUD issue is resolved but I am still getting the kernel panic, here are the last lines or output from booting with -v mDNSREsponder[35]: mDNSPlatformRawTime: this_mach_absolute_time 7ABDCxxxxxxx xxxxxx-macpro31 kextd[10]: IOKitWaitQuite() timed out waiting to write kernel symbols AppleNForceATA: found 0 units. |
After changing zeph-amd-v2 to leo4allv3 I can install all the new kexts and new kernel!! wonderful!

Hopefully someone will be along soon who can help. :) |
I have installed the 10.5.3 update and when I run Marvin's utility, I see that the 'translate' file has not been patched. Would it be safe to update it with the package that Marvin creates for it?
|
translate doesn't need to be patched.

Voyn1x,
Thanks for all of your help, much appreciated, as I said this is on another drive so I'll re-install Leo4All again and experiment with it, will keep you posted. |
