It can't boot up after install 10.5.5

Hi all,

I'm pretty new in Hacknitosh world, I installed iDeneb 10.5.5, system won't boot up by itself, you need to inset the iDened DVD into the DVD drive, then it can boot up. Am I missing something?

Intel D945GCLF2 Mini-ITX board, Atom 330 CPU, 2G ram, 250G HDD, DVD burner.

Many Thanks. :)

Sounds like you missed installing the bootloader or it didn't install correctly for some reason. To fix download and install Chameleon :)

mumm..... you mean my source is bad? Can you tell me more detail about? Thanks. :)

Voyn1x 10-23-2008 06:04 PM

What I meant is that when customising your install options you may have missed the bootloader.

gmow 10-23-2008 06:06 PM

Oh....... thanks, let me check it out. :D

@ gmow - When you say "system won't boot up by itself, you need to inset the iDened DVD into the DVD drive, then it can boot up" this is pretty characteristic of a bootloader problem. It doesn't mean you did something intentionally wrong, or even that it was your fault at all. When installing OS X, the Install DVD needs complete access to the HD you are installing to in order for it to finalize the script for the drive to boot when called upon. This is what the bootloader is.

So from the sound of it, If you need the DVD to initialize your drive before you can access it, just install Chameleon once you've booted into OS X and on the next boot you shouldn't need the DVD in the drive anymore.

Voyn1x posted a link for you in his first post... Did you even click on it ?

Here:

http://chameleon.osx86.hu/file_downl...-installer.zip

Download Chameleon by clicking that link, double click to install then reboot without the DVD to see if it worked.

oh....... sorry I miss that, let try then, thanks for everyone.:D

what partition scheme is your disk using? find this out in Disk Utility. Also, you did format the disk to HFS+ right?

gmow 10-25-2008 08:14 AM

I have a way to solve that already, I used some some tools to make the drive become active and it can reboot by itself. Thanks guys. :D

nfoav8or 10-25-2008 08:17 AM

mind sharing what they were? boot-132, chameleon, or pc_efi?

gmow 10-25-2008 11:14 PM

Sure, that is dos application which is called "Hiren's", it come w/ a lot of tools, like Norton ghost, Hard Disk Utility (IBM, Seagate, WD), Partition Magic and so on. :-d

By the way, I have one minor issue, which is the system can't shut down, every time when I shut it down and I will see the screen as "You need to restart your compute. Hold down the power button for several second or press the Restart button", is that anyway I can solve that?

first-
@ christian_ger - when you see the 10 second countdown press any key and enter
Code:

-f -v
as boot flags (-f is a forced load of your extensions folder and -v is for verbose mode)

being in verbose mode will allow you to let us know what kind of panic the system is going through. my guess is that you didn't customize your install correctly so the system has unnecessary things in it or the wrong things installed.

@ gmow - This is a kernel panic during your shutdown process caused by (again) the wrong installation of customized packages in your original installation. Try using the new voodoo kernel (still in beta production but working great on my machine). maybe you'll have better luck with it. If it doesn't help, we may nee to look at reinstalling your system and making it more customized.

Thanks for the info, am I need to reinstall it again? And where can I find the "Voodo Kernel" and how can I use that? Can you tell me more about that?

By the way, I have one more minor issue, which is the resolution only 1024 x 768, how can add more into my system? I'm using Intel 945G all-in-one mainboard (950 video chipset).

Many thanks.

oh...... sounds like no solution. :'(

nfoav8or 10-31-2008 12:54 AM

Check out: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/in...L_10.5.2#Intel and scroll down to the "Intel D945GCLF2" board type. This will give a better description of how to best install... note: this was for the 10.5.2 Hardware Compatibility Charts but you'll be able to upgrade to 10.5.5 through apple.... I would recommend using Zephyroth's ASU still, but select "Intel Installation" to ensure it will still work with your board.

Thanks nfoav8or!! :D
