Photoshop CS4 crashes upon startup
 

whenever I launch Adobe Photoshop CS4 It crashes on the screen that says "Reading Preferences"

If anyone knows a fix to this it would be greatly appreciated if you could share it with me =)

we need a lot more info, like your version of OS X and your hardware. just a quick solution which worked for me in this situation, i fresh installed Leo4All v3 10.5.2 and it worked fine, that was posted on this forum already, you should search before you posted...

do you have CI/QE support? and yes, please tell us a little more about the issue by relaying your system specs.

I have no idea how to check if I have CI/QE support

the problem i think is to do with 10.5.5, when i was using Leo4All 10.5.5 it wouldnt work for me, and crashed also at the same time as you indicate, i manually patched my OS to 10.5.5 and it sounds like you have as well, so there must be something wrong with the AMD Patched Updates that causes Photoshop CS4 to crash, when i went back to 10.5.2 it all worked fine.

Sounds like that would be the problem but I wonder if theres a fix? the reason I had to update to 10.5.5 was to install something to get my graphics card to work.

does it work with 10.5.4? I would say have a test partition you can run it on at 10.5.whatever and then your regular 10.5.5. little unnecessary right now but I think the issue will be fixed when we can natively update via Apple with Voodoo.

when I had 10.5.4 a while back, It did work as a matter of fact. and I have no idea what Voodoo is haha. I keep hearing about it but I still haven't found out what it is =)

its a kernal in beta testing right now, you can find out about it and download it from the news and releases section here, im using it now, its fairly good :)

Did anyone ever figure out how to fix this or what is wrong? It seems like allot of my questions that I post seem to get discussed and my problem doesn't get fixed. I know that I should be happy i'm even getting help but If there isn't a fix for it can you just let me know?

No one here knows of a fix, the only way i solved this problem like i said before was to downgrade OS X back to 10.5.2

why not sit on a 10.5.4 system and run it if it is known to work?

what did you need your system to 10.5.5 for graphics for specifically?

I cant stay with 10.5.4 unfortunately because my graphics card is a GeForce 9500 GT with 512mb ram and I couldn't install "NVIDIA 9000 Series Driver v2" because it would not install unless I had 10.5.5 installed.

If I didn't install that I would not have been able to get my grafix card to work. I wanted it to work so I could use cover flow, play games...ect you know..

If you can be patient try waiting for the new Voodoo kernel - it won't be long now. I'm absolutely positive that it should fix the issue that you're having :)

allright I'll wait for that. I have no idea what the voodoo kernal is though? can someone link me or something to information on it please =)

sorry its just really annoying how some people ask silly questions that have already been answerered in the thread.

some people don't know what a "kernel" is when coming from windows. Get over it. Sometimes they need that little bit extra to get through it so we give them a few chances...

I don't think that that says what it is. It looks more like a changelog or what is in the package...and No I do not know what a kernal is. Im still kinda new to this and I have never looked into the Voodoo kernal thing. I don't like to download something and use it until I know about what it is and if it is worth the risk of messing up my computer (If that can happen with voodoo)

Thank you. Thats pretty much what I was looking for =) since I know what it is I installed voodoo and it fixed my photoshop problem and my earlyer quicktime problem. Thanks for all your help guys =)
