µTorrent Mac Beta Released!

µTorrent Mac beta out. Heres the link :)

Been using the leaked betas for a few weeks. This one's much much better. Except it still doesn't pay attention to upload throttling so on high traffic torrents it saturates my upload bandwidth, thus causing my download rate to collapse into nearly nothing. :(
If they fix that I'll be happy.

eMatoS 11-28-2008 11:09 AM

Yeah, it's quite nice and stable, except for that. Hope they'll fix it soon.

@Ali C.: try deleting /Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.bittorrent.µTorrent.plist and /Users/username/Library/Application Support/uTorrent and start utorrent again. It worked for me. Found that into utorrent forum.

Ali C. 11-30-2008 10:24 PM

Thanks. I'll see if that solves the "upload saturation smash". :)

Thank God....Vuze keeps crashing Leopard

hans0m 12-04-2008 07:23 AM

Cool.
It means I can download torrent on Mac now?:-d

I just download Youtube before, with a Free YouTube Downloader for Mac

Have you not heard of Transmission? It's been around on the Mac for a loooong time ;)

Ali C. 12-04-2008 09:42 AM

Make sure your hard drive runs at a decent speed on your Hack if you use Transmission, or it will slow your computer to a crawl. Ask me how I know. :p
As for Vuze, it has nice movie trailers, but felt too bloaty. Plus it'd always hang when I tried to exit it and in turn would prevent Leopard from rebooting, even if I (tried to) kill it with Activity Monitor. Glad I never got a KP from it, though.

i cant seem to download from a private tracker website, that probably has something to do on their side, right?

lets take a look at that one again? are you a member of this private "site"? ;)

most issues with private trackers is that they are selective with what they allow to be used as a client. make sure you know its supported.

axhi 12-06-2008 05:07 AM

ya, im a member. i could d/l fine before and on any other build. but i can't with utorrent but i LOVE utorrent.

nfoav8or 12-06-2008 06:25 PM

i used to use uTorrent before but seeing as how I've paid for the software and have not been able to activate it on my hackintosh... I switched. too bad.

did you check to see if your client is on the white list for the site's trackers?

axhi 12-08-2008 09:57 PM

they recommend utorrent, so not certain...

nfoav8or 12-09-2008 07:33 PM

but is the version number on the white list...? this makes a difference. newer versions aren't always added right away because they like to make sure all the bugs are worked out and that there isn't something coded in them that will supersede the sites requirements.

80-90% CPU Utilization ?

Does any one have problem of high cpu usage while running utorrent ? even vuze run fine with little cpu usage ...

Edit : Disable Distributed Hash Table Network .. Cpu usage become normal 3-4% ( it's a bug )

Nice torrent client, when it reaches final it will be the best IMO

Yeah, the recommend the Windows 1.7.x/1.8.x builds as they have been 'allowed' for use. PM/Email the admins there and ask for the Mac uTorrent Beta to be allowed, he/she will need its Peer ID (I think its UM0090).

Been waiting for a mac-version of µTorrent for a long while now, even it it's released fully now, would be of no use for me though, still don't have a Intel Mac so :(
But from what a friend tells me, it's nice ^^
If only Apple would upgrade the Mac Mini's with better graphics I'd buy one to replace this old workhorse (G4/533mhz) that's been chugging along since before OSX was even released ^^
