iatkos install fine but no booting back

i posted my situation on http://www.infinitemac.com/showthread.php?t=1751 .
Now i tried again changing installation options and this was what i selected and what i got:

i select on customize this options
PCI EFI v9
AppleDecrypt
SMBIOS Enablers (all of them)
Kernel: voodoo 9.5
ACPI: x86 ACPI
Disabler kext
Remove PowerManagent
OHR
Remove Thermal
from drivers:
VGA:
Graphics Update
GMA 950b
X3100
EFI string for ...
System:
Intel SATA
Intel AHCI
SpeedStep b
ext2
ntfs3g
NetWork: 8139 driver

Code:

i installed fine and when reboot:
got this:
mDNSResponder started
Alkor: Starting
Chosen model GMA 950
Alkor: Setting built-in=<data not shown>
Alkor: Setting AAPL,HasPanel=<data not shown>
Alkor: Setting AAPL,NumFramebuffers=<data not shown>
Alkor: Setting AAPL,NumDisplays=<data not shown>
Alkor: Setting AAPL01,Depth=<data not shown>
Alkor: Setting AAPL01,Pipe=<data not shown>

after this it hangs

any help, thanks in advance

nfoav8or 12-18-2008 12:15 AM

boot up with -s and remove the video kexts that you installed from the DVD. reinstall them once you have a system that is running. The default graphics will work until then.

OR...

Erase and reinstall the OS only this time do everything BUT selecting the video options. Too many people expect a fully working system right after install. Hackintosh is about fiddling with your machine to get it to work instead of expecting it to.

worry about the video, audio, ethernet, etc. later. it can be fixed later. First get a working system from an initial install. :)

erick2red 12-18-2008 02:10 PM

i'll try that now, my point to think that it should work is that i have kaliway 10.5.1 working now and when i run:
Quote:

kextstat | grep GMA
i got
Quote:

80 0 0x20dbd000 0x36000 0x35000 com.apple.driver.AppleIntelGMA950 (5.1.8) <78 72 17 12 6 5 4 2>
so that means to me that GMA driver works so, i thought that should work....

nfoav8or 12-18-2008 10:17 PM

Well then it is probably hanging on the next step before the printout comes.

Why were you never able to update from your Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD?

I know the jump from 10.5.1 to 10.5.2 was impeded by most hackintoshers because of EFI but what was your specific problem getting updated? Were you able to update at all above 10.5.1? Zeph's ASU allows for an Intel update... have you tried that?

erick2red 12-19-2008 04:04 PM

no, i haven't tried that, i even check now, i tried to update when i got kaliway 10.5.1 so a few months ago, and cause i've following the howto i found on the net and update still not working i dropped away, and wait until i can get an iatkos or leo4all hackintosh distro. ahh what was happens, i update to the not restart point, then change the line on the init/1 script to dsmos.kext and when reboot nothing the systems hangs itself...

so, now, i boot into 10.5.5
i erased these files from /System/Library/Extensions/
Quote:

AppleIntelGMA950GA.plugin
AppleIntelGMA950GLDriver.bundle
AppleIntelGMA950VADriver.bundle
AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext
AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext
AppleIntelGMAX3100GA.plugin
AppleIntelGMAX3100GLDriver.bundle
AppleIntelGMAX3100VADriver.bundle
AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext
AppleIntelGMA950.kext
and rename /System/Library/Extensions.mkext to /System/Library/Extensions.mkext.older so the system can't find it

the other issue i booted into here after try on the boot prompt with:
Quote:

-f -v -x cpus=1 platform=x86pc
i didn't reboot yet but i don't wnat to have to do that every time i boot, and i haven't graphics kexts, how do i install it?, i can't find it on the DVD, and i haven't audio either.
ahh so many thanks. really i wouldn't do this alone

there's so many questions here, sorry but more help?

i saved those kexts from the DVD install before remove its and now when reinstall it with UInstaller (pcwiz utility) the system give the same issue and didn't load anything, now i will try installing the olds one to see what i get?

the other issue the same i still boot into with:
Quote:

-f -x -v cpus=1 platform=x86pc
and got safe boot at the login window

erick2red 12-19-2008 05:44 PM

i load my olds kexts from the kaliway and finally get 1028x1024, but still no audio, i'll gonna make search an still booting into "Safe boot" with
Quote:

-f -x -v cpus=1 platform=x86pc
how can i skip this

erick2red 12-19-2008 11:41 PM

i still don't know how to load the kext, and make a normal boot?
there is this other issue, i use the old kext from kaliway and get 1280x1024 but i can't get "Quartz Extreme" and in Kaliway i do have...
i would like your help about 10.5.5

now i'm updating with Zeph's ASU the old kaliway, maybe crash, i hope not

nfoav8or 12-20-2008 01:27 AM

If I were in your shoes I would stick with the Kalyway 10.5.1 install DVD and update your system with the new Voodoo kernel manually. Then ensure you have AppleDecrypt.kext, Disabler.kext, and AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext files I've PM'd you as well as Chameleon. Then just update your system using single-system updates available from Apple's download site until you get to 10.5.5 where you need to install the DSDT patch (I'd use the patch app made by PCWiz over at his site) if I were you. Then you will be ready to update to 10.5.6 and fix your audio and video.

i just read your post, i got your files, updated the kernel, now i and load the kexts, now i'll reboot, wish me luck...

how do i update from apple updates, the old way?
remove PowerManagement kext and run the ComboUpd until restart option then rewrite intial/1 scripts?, this way?
thanks for all the help?

is this only after putting the kexts and kernel in place?
The voodoo kernel works with P4's.

What kind of error is it? a Kernel Panic?

next time you boot, add in the boot flag "debug=0x100" then let us know what the readouts are. Also, check the Console (located in your Utilities folder) for error messages and info on the kernel "errors".

Well thats a little funky... How did you install the voodoo kernel in the first place? manually or via the installer?

Oh well, you got it working again... I guess its better left alone then huh...

I thought you already got your system to 10.5.4. What happened?

milanca 12-21-2008 06:33 AM

Damn! erick2red you really have hard times getting your system working. Reading the posts I can't figure out the status of your installation, whats already installed and whats not, and whats working and what isn't. Please follow nfoav8or's suggestions so you can make your rig working; also post your actual system status. I will also try to help you get that rig running smoothly.

nothing more that always happens, the system crash after push the restart button.

So now, i reinstall 10.5.5 cause i lost the kaliway installation and i'm trying to make it run without "Safe boot(-x)" bootloader option and trying to get graphics kexts working...

Right now i will reinstall 10.5.5 (iatkos) without selecting any graphics option, to see whats happens.

milanca 12-22-2008 03:28 PM

Yes, smart decision to start from scratch. Do not select to install anything you are absolutely sure it is needed for your system.

What is exactly your motherboard model number? Is it Asus P5GC? What's the model, and we'll start from there.

lost my kaliway install and the DVD for reinstall, so i installed 10.5.5 (iatkos) with the same options as before but without any graphics options, like before the system hangs, so with "-x" flag at boot created my account and installed gma950a.pkg from iatkos ISO and reboot. Again the same the system hangs telling something like

I don't think "identical" PC is the right way to put it because there could be some minor differences unless you ordered both at the exact same time to the exact same specs. For example, I've got a Dell Inspiron 531. but that was back when they were using AMD CPUs and some cheaper motherboard called the R201. They also sold Intel variants of the same model number (the Dell Inspiron 531). So we definitely need exact specs (or at least an exact model number of your motherboard so we can be sure we are giving you sound advice and not run-around answers that should work on a generic level. Please post anything you can (even if this means opening up the case to look at the motherboard). Thanks.

I'll try and help with the info you've given but then I'll have some more questions for you. I'll post in a few minutes after I do some more research for your specs.

So in your first post and now your last post, you are saying the system thinks it has a GMA950 GPU in it... does it really? or is the option you selected above accurate?

VGA:

950 and X3100 are not the same so I'm wondering why you were trying to do this.

moving on... at least you can boot (even if it is only safe mode).

Here's what I want you to do. You're going to delete the video kexts so the system uses a generic driver. Then we will adjust it as necessary later.

I know you didn't install any video drivers/kexts/EFI strings in this latest install but the system still installs its generic variants of them.

boot with -s
Code:

/sbin/mount -uw /
cd /System/Library/Extensions/
rm -Rf GeForce*
rm -Rf NVDA*
rm -Rf ATI*
rm -Rf NVinject*
rm -Rf AppleIntelGMA*
cd ..
rm -Rf Extensions.mkext
reboot

now it should boot normally (not in safe mode) but without proper graphics, this is an issue we will fix shortly. Let me know how it is coming along.

what happens?
i followed wht u said and when rebooted, apple keep spinning until i got the grey box telling me i have to reboot, the i booted with -v and got this
Quote:

so when i tell at boot "cpus=1" the it hangs but no show that last line
. so i tried with "-x" and still boot but....

like something curious i notice that in some point it says:

answering what you said i check X3100 cause i don't know really well, but if those are drivers i thought then it could not harm anything,
and the other issue, yeah that my board, cause the pc it's identical, we didn't ordered at the same time cause that's not my situation but yeah i'm sure it the same, exactly the same...
