Who said it was better than Leo4All?

This isn't about "better" or "worse" but about the choice people have. That's all.

Just to note, pcwiz and I are not trying to beat anyone else, we support the use of other distributions, we just wanted to make something that has a little more to offer, because we did notice that a lot of times, some distributions work for some and not for others, and we want to bridge this gap, and I'd say we've done a pretty good job so far, even for a Beta.

I feel that the goal for iPC OSx86 Final would be a virtually universal boot and install. Even if we only get to 80-90% of that goal, it would be great. But again, we do support using another setup as long as that is what works for you. We're for the community as a whole, not to try and take over. That would be silly.

OK, downloading now.
After iAtkos i4 & i5 failed, I hope this works ^_^

I do not know why the beta with 1 through 5 ppf applied stops on a critical error about boot.efi file as determined by watching the full log window. Operation not permitted related to boot.efi
The MD5 for the ppf 5 patched iso matched the published MD5

The IPC beta with ppf 1 and 2 applied worked perfectly until tried installing the final, but now I can't even complete that install it fails relating to boot.efi
I can not and will not format any partitions.

AMD Athlon X2 2.8GHz 5400+
4GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM
1TB HDD
Asus M2N61-AR for HP Acacia-GL6E
HDD only has 3 partitions.

Is there a way to put my original Mac OS X back in place with out too much trouble (Ipc with ppf1 and ppf2)

cmdshft 02-03-2009 03:15 AM

Are you trying to install over a previous Mac OS X install?

foster 02-03-2009 03:52 AM

Yes I am over ipc beta with ppf1 and ppf2 applied.
Formatting any of the partitions will not happen.
If I have to go in and remove a few files to get ti install that is ok as long I dont have to recreate my user on the system.

cmdshft 02-03-2009 04:41 AM

Well the issue is because you are trying to install over an old installation. You need to format and then install.

foster 02-03-2009 04:59 AM

Can not and will not format any partitions I am not going to erase data.
The installer scripts should be able to handle an existing Mac OS X install, exactly like Apple does.

Come up with another idea like how to recover previous working Mac OS X on that partition

cmdshft 02-03-2009 05:01 AM

No.

You asked why it's erring on boot.efi, I told you why, it's up to you to figure out what to do at that point, it's not my responsibility.

If you don't want to lose any data, don't use Mac OS X then.

foster 02-03-2009 05:19 AM

I use Mac OS X so I dont have Data loss.

My point is this, the installer scripts should be able to handle an existing Mac OS X install just as easily as a blank partition.

cmdshft 02-03-2009 05:59 AM

Well they don't, and for good reason. It's to prevent borking a system that may have conflicts with a "upgrade".

Backup your stuff somewhere else and start fresh.

foster 02-03-2009 08:14 AM

I just deleted the System Folder, it installed the final

I didnt apply nforce 1.1 ppf or whatever it is. (the one after 5)
I do not have the looking for root device issue.
So I don't think I need the fix unless it fixes the following:

any DVD will not mount and trying to look at System profiler then Serial ATA or starting Disk Utility to see if it will mount the dvd that way, or even trying to eject the disk via iTunes, or eject icon on menu bar, causes System Profiler, Disk Utilities, iTunes, etc in Force Quit Dialog Box to show up as non responsive, this occurs with any non blank DVD in the drive.

Update: It thinks these DVD's are blank.

well, at this point i can only say this distro is Working. the other i've tried are Leo4All and iAtkos.. which didn't work with my AMD box.

this one works :), i'm just not getting sound (i choose ALC850, it should be AC97), graphics look sluggish (Geforce 6600 + nvinject kexts.) and i can't get ethernet (choose NforceLan something.) . if someone including distro developers, have a clue on what is affecting my osx86 install performance, and why i'm not getting audio nor ethernet connection please help :).

I'm leaving my specs here :

AMD 64 3500+ (skt939) @ 2.5Ghz
ASUS A8N-SLI (NForce4)
ASUS Geforce 6600 TD (256MB Vram)
Nforce4 Onboard Audio (AC97 ?)

SATA & IDE Disks are properlly detected :)

PS : NICE WORK, we owe.. for life :D
PS2 : How do you take screenshots with a "Mac" ? i tried ctrl+alt+3 or shif+alt+3 which seems to be the default key bindings... but doesn't work lol :s

peace
