GMA 950 stuck at 1024 x 768

I have installed iPC 10.5.6 with no trouble except the video is stuck @ 1024 x 768
hoping to get it to 1280 x 1024.

hardware:
Intel board -BOXD945GCLF2
ATOM 330
North Bridge Intel 945GC
South Bridge Intel ICH7
Onboard Video Chipset Intel GMA 950

Samsung LCD SyncMaster 931bf using VGA connection

This is my first install, 95% working - from i read, i should count myself lucky.

other issue is i need the dvd to boot and no sound, but those can wait.

There seems to be lots of information out there for these issues i am having, but most take for granted that i know what they are referring to.
I am a TOTAL OS X newbie.
All my experiences are Linux and MS.
Not afraid to get in there, but not sure where that is.

Specific direction needed - thanks very much.

osx86 tools fixed it up good 1280x1024x32@70Hz
if anyone has a good step 1,2,3 for the booting issue however...

xXrkidXx 04-22-2009 12:51 AM

i use 60Hz, it works better for some reason, 70Hz is a little cut off my screen

which is? We need to know so we can help.

cloudster09 04-22-2009 04:28 PM

i am also having problems, with 1024x768 only. I am using iATKOS 5i (105.5). I have ATI Radeon Xpress 200. Everything works, sound, network, etc... however i only have 1024x768. Not sure if its the monitor or what. I hope that if i plug in a bigger monitor i will have more choices in resolution.

Also the problem with the ps2 mouse/keyboard not detecting during bootup randomly bothers me as well. Gotta keep rebooting until it works

erick2red 04-22-2009 04:40 PM

for your ps/2 problem you could try this

You know, i do not know, intel lists the audio as "5.1 channel high definition audio" its on board... but no specs that i can find as of yet...
intel link here my board chip combo is the first column

but OSx86 tools comes up with the following information when i run the "view PCI Device /vendor ID" tool. This is from the Ispci.txt output.

00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller [8086:27d8] (rev 01)

erick2red 04-22-2009 07:59 PM

that's what we need to know. There's a post here in the forum about some new HDA controller, which i donwloaded but not try out, you could start but that point. Here is the thread

I had the same problem on my atom board desktop, what bootloader are you using? If your using chameleon or pc_efi you can load a DSDT.aml file on boot and it solves all GMA950 problems on desktops.. enables full 3d acceleration, res change, and rotation.. it hardwires the GMA950 address, because its a desktop card thats being used, Mac OS X had trouble finding it because all Macs that have it have laptop versions of the card :/ anyway, here ya go, if you don't know how to use DSDT files, let me know.. :)

erick2red 04-27-2009 01:27 PM

so, are you telling us, if we use DSDT patch, we can use stock kexts without patching it?

Yes. On desktop versions of the GMA950 only though.

EDIT: If you use this fix, you NEED to use the stock kexts, not the frame buffer from tiger, otherwise it WILL NOT work.

already tried that one, not working at all.

NebKiwi 04-27-2009 05:57 PM

damn

What device ID do you have? Mine is 0x2772.. and after the DSDT fix, its all perfect.

check out this

erick2red 04-27-2009 06:09 PM

That's the one i tried,.
My device is the same as yours.

NebKiwi 04-27-2009 06:13 PM

Chameleon 2.0

Sorry about asking this, I know it sounds like I am treating you like a noob, so I apologize, but sometimes it takes the simplest solutions...

where have you put the DSDT file? in chameleon 2.0, it doesn't go at the root of the drive like it used to, it now goes in /extra. Which bootloader are you running?

erick2red 04-27-2009 06:18 PM

doesn't have chameleon 2 yet...kinda afraid cause if chameleon II don't works the i had o reinstall the old one, and i had to do it through terminal, and don't know how...so still with the old chameleon.

NebKiwi 04-27-2009 06:22 PM

Chameleon

Ok, so have you got the DSDT file at the root of your boot drive? if yes, are you definitely sure that you have the stock kexts and only the stock kexts? (no natit etc) I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work :s it works with my card, and our cards are identical..

erick2red 04-27-2009 06:30 PM

i got the stocks kexts, (the one about graphics) from ComboUpd, and then tried with V3 and V4 from that page you referred, didn't work any of those, so go to the patch, to manually create the DSDT.aml myself, and it stop at the point when i had to find "Scope (_SI)" cause my DSDT doesn't have it.

NebKiwi 04-27-2009 06:32 PM

hhmmm

That is very weird :/ Well, theres not much I can think of now :(

erick2red 04-27-2009 06:49 PM

let's try this one, send me your DSDT.aml sand a list of what's kexts i had to replace. so i can check against mine.

Ok, no probs.. DSDT is attached... the kexts are as follows..

AppleIntelGMA950GA.plugin version 1.5.36.25
AppleIntelGMA950GLDriver.bundle version 1.5.36.25
AppleIntelGMA950VADriver.bundle 1.5.36.25
AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext 1.5.36.25

If all goes well, you should have full res and acceleration..

This is what i got. When use your dsdt.aml

NebKiwi 04-27-2009 10:17 PM

ok...

Can you run the patcher on your hardware and then send me the DSDT.aml? I will attempt to decompile it and add in the neccessary code in, once optimized for your own hardware it should work.. I'm going to get some shut eye now, will do it sometime tomorrow :)

It contains the following audio controller:
82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller
You could try a linux codec dump or VoodooHDA (if it works without distorting...)

Here it goes, dsdt.aml and Debug folder that patcher make. I ran "patcher -newHPET", so....take a look, whenever you can.

NebKiwi 04-28-2009 09:41 PM

hmm

Hmm, your DSDT doesn't make a lot of sense :/ You have to run the patcher on a boot without any other DSDT's, otherwise the patcher is influenced by info injected on boot, are doing a clear boot? If not, then I am not sure where to go next, I would turn to the experts in DSDT fixes... I would contact Roisoft on insanelymac and send him your DSDT.dsl, see what he makes of it.. sorry buddy.

I don't know if i SMBIOSEFi or something else is getting in the middle of my "clear boot", but i can make a boot without dstdt's. Here is.
