My first earning doing OS X...

I recently made a complete upgrade package with all improvements (kernel and kexts built specific for the system) and custom DSDT mods (added the custom Apple devices MCEH, PNLF and SMS0, HDEF fixes, and power button fixed) + EFI strings (enabling audio, video and ethernet fixes...) for someone...
As a thank you he just deposited 100$ on my Paypal account...
I tend to say to this person: a really big thank you for that...

I could adapt it if I had VoodooHDA codec dump + Linux codec dump...
Use the getdump utility in the sources of VoodooHDA...
I could then adapt AppleHDA for the purpose...

I have also my own opinion about that. I would agree with that cause i think it is quite ok. Someone may or may not agree but that is just my own opinion.

To become really experienced with running osx on pc hardware it requires lots of time and effort, and knowledge. It will take months for someone to explore all the sources and build as perfect and stable system as possible. It will take even some more time to narrow things down, get familiar with DSDT, and use all that knowledge to make real Mac clone. We, here at our forum or at insanelymac, or at other forums and sites on the internet are willing to help, give instructions and help people out who wish to build their own hacks. But again one has still to find out, on his own, so many things. So if someone don't have time to explore and learn things on his own, or simply can't do it, he can get a readymade box from psystar or german seller (forgot the name) or the efix dongle, or buy a real Mac. Building packages like you did Andy is a time consuming process, requires both the time and the knowledge. To receive a small fee as a thank is absolutely fine. It is well and honestly earned money.

Good job bro ! don't spend it all in one bar ;-)
Regards.

Could you do this, i send you my ioreg dump and you record a screenscast when you're doing the patches? So i can see what you're doing and learn from you.

I need more info to adapt AppleHDA...

xXrkidXx 05-02-2009 07:27 PM

Start up with Linux install DVD like Ubuntu (one with live boot...) and open a console or terminal
type cd /proc
next cat asound/.../codec... > /media/<usb_stick_name>/LinuxCodecDump.txt (replacing ... with path to codec)
For VoodooHDA dump you need VoodooHDA installed and running while running the getdump utility (see getdump.c under voodoohda source folder...)

That's great, Andy. I wonder if this forum could support developers by setting up a wanted section, whereby users with annoying problems could set up bounties for talented developers to fix.

I've added the PNLF device to my DSDT for the backlight, but I don't recognize MCEH or SMS0. What are they?

SportsGuy 05-24-2009 03:07 AM

I can't even get the sound to work on my Ubuntu, I think sound might be hopeless for me, anyway...

MCEH = MacPro3,1 feature for rebooting PC on power failure.
SMS0 = Part of AppleSMC.kext (SMCSMS...)
