iPC 10.5.6 won't boot
I recently burned a copy of iPC and am having problems booting from the DVD. This is the version i have: iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Universal PPF5 (Final). The Apple screen comes up with the X over it, which I've read means there is a hardware problem. Here are my system specs: Asus A8N5X, AMD 64 X@ 4200+ (Socket 939), 4x512GB Corsair DDR 400, EVGA 7600GT 256MB, an IDE 80GB hard drive, and a lite-on IDE DVD Burner.

That took a while to type. Can someone help me out with what the problem is? I don't know what any of that means. I would really appreciate the help. Thanks! |
wow that was alot. but try using ppf o matic to add the ppf patches
here is the link to their site http://pcwizcomputer.com/ipcosx86/?page_id=105 add them in order, too |
Thanks! I'll patch that iso up, and let you know how things went. I appreciate the help!
|
You forgot to install a storage driver...
|
I'm still getting the Apple with the cross over it, and the same diagnostic message, even after patching. It would be great if you could help me out some more. Right now I'm downloading iDeneb 1.4, that's my next step. I don't know of anything that could fix what's wrong, so any help would be appreciated.

I've tried iDeneb now, still can't get past the gray Apple screen with the apple crossed out.

Did you read the 'still waiting for root device' sticky at the top of this forum?
http://www.infinitemac.com/f5/possib...-device-t1467/ You need to inject a storage driver into your distribution, or use different hardware. |
Yeah, I've looked at the sticky, and I know I have to put a driver in the iso, but I don't know how to do it.
|
I assume it's a kext file I'm looking for?
And by storage, do you mean a driver for the hard drive? |
Looking at the log it seems you already have an storage driver (AppleNForceATA) that seems to work for your hardware as it is being loaded but for some reason it isnt finding any devices attached to the secondary controller thats maybe where you have the DVD drive connected to?
Check the device connections to the motherboard ports, so they are connected in the right order and properly jumpered. If that doesnt work you may try using a different connection DVD drive or installing from an USB drive. |
Ok, I tried about 30 combinations of SATA and ATA drives before I got it to install. It worked though, thanks for the help!
However, now whenever I try to open a dmg, I get a kernel panic. I've done what this thread says to do, but to no avail. Any suggestions? EDIT: I solved the problem. I just reinstalled and enabled the fix for mounting dmg files. It works now. |
