10.5.2 Update for AMD only, eddie11c

I am in the testing phase of making my own 10.5.2 update just for AMD machines. It does not include the 9.2.0 kernel since not everyone has EFI installed. But what I was wondering is, what's the best way to get a few people to test it out? Just in case it isn't working quite right.

AMD 10.5.2.mpkg.zip

Feel free to try it.
Thanks to cgsheen for uploading

laxattack 02-14-2008 11:19 PM

i will gladly test it out if you would like

damnesiac 02-14-2008 11:29 PM

Just torrent it. Write a ncie nfo saying what it does etc and include the 9.2 kernel if you can. Installing efi is a piece of cake so I don;t see why people shouldn't do it.

iero 02-14-2008 11:51 PM

What sort of update ?

eddie11c 02-14-2008 11:58 PM

ok just did a fresh install of 10.5.1 and upgraded to 10.5.2 without any issues that I can see. Will have to test out some of the programs to make sure they are working. Will check back in after.

eddie11c 02-15-2008 01:33 AM

well you can check tpb for the update for AMD. I tried installing it a few times, with and without kernel and all seemed to work ok. Others are welcome to test it also.

palmpje 02-15-2008 01:54 AM

Does efi work with sse2?

eddie11c 02-15-2008 01:56 AM

I believe so, as with all AMD machines you still have to use the modified kernel anyways.

palmpje 02-15-2008 02:15 AM

thanks i will search for it
gonna try your update

Could you please elaborate on how you did the update?

eddie11c 02-15-2008 04:14 AM

I made my own update, you can find it on TPB. I make no guarantees, but it should work for you.

neolight 02-15-2008 04:30 AM

Got an error right as it starts the install process. Using zeph rev1 with efi installed.

braindead803 02-15-2008 04:34 AM

im downloading just to seed. since i never got 10.5.1 to work on my laptop. so im just waiting for 10.5.2 rev 1. but hopefully my upload speed helps a bit.

eddie11c 02-15-2008 04:34 AM

no idea whats causing your error, you have 10.5.1 installed? Did it prompt you for the root password?

neolight 02-15-2008 04:36 AM

yes pretty much a fresh install with just efi added.

eddie11c 02-15-2008 04:37 AM

I just ran it again on my system, without issue.

eddie11c 02-15-2008 04:37 AM

you can try installing with pacifist, see if you get the same error. Also you can open up the console and see if you get any specifics of the error.

braindead803 02-15-2008 04:46 AM

is there anyway to put this onto a bootable cd/dvd so once i install 10.5.1 i can put this into the dvd slot and boot from it and install the update?

what comes with your update?

Ath 02-15-2008 05:01 AM

I have no issues so far.

Thanks!

neolight 02-15-2008 05:16 AM

Well I ran carbon copy cloner before i tried installing with pacifist. Not sure what did it but i ended up not being able to boot. When it goes to boot the drive nothing happens, no darwin etc. Ill just hang on some more until zeph's 10.5.2 is released. Thanks though.

pαuℓzurrr. 02-15-2008 05:26 AM

How would i do this on 10.5.1 without EFI installed? Could someone please tell me :)

eddie11c 02-15-2008 05:38 AM

Just install without the new kernel in the install options. Just know ahead of time if you have graphics with QE/CI its going to sit for about 2 minutes before the desktop loads. Screen will go black then to standby then eventually it will load.

eddie11c 02-15-2008 08:02 AM

So has anyone downloaded and got it installed? If so, does everything seem to be working?

Ath 02-15-2008 08:41 AM

Yep, look's like it is working just fine...At least so far.

jrangles 02-15-2008 09:30 AM

In Piratabay, it is the update of OSX 10.5.2 for AmD.
I installed it and works perfect.
In a single package that installs everything to you, including new kernel... very simple
... and it works perfect
...It requires to have installed efi

braindead803 02-15-2008 02:06 PM

so there is no way i can update from tiger to this 10.5.2?

althon 02-15-2008 04:50 PM

Thank you man! Its working for me without any problem

what do you think?

damnesiac 02-15-2008 06:47 PM

I hope 10.5.2 will fix my mouse issue and also fix Toast. Toast has been crashing ever since upgrading graphic kexts.

WinLinMac01 02-15-2008 07:04 PM

any way the the efi patch can be included within the 10.5.2 installation? Or its just isn't possible? If I don't need efi, I'll try to install the amd 10.5.2 package only. I'll let you know my results in a bit.

Firewalk 02-15-2008 07:09 PM

Hi Alll, I managed to install this update, but then i updated the graphics thing from software update and have now lost QE/CI. i was using atinject and ati x1000 kexts. my video card is a radeon x1650 256 m/b. is there any way i can set video up..

or is it a format reinstall?.

Firewalk

WinLinMac01 02-15-2008 07:39 PM

Results, I installed the update without EFI, and it still works, however, I would have to wait for 2 minutes or so for a display to show up. Anyway to fix this? Also, is there anyway to install kernal 9.2.0 separately and configure EFI without USB Drive? Please help, thanks.

About the 2-minute wait: it said so in the description of the file in the bay: "If you don't have EFI installed be warned that you will sit at a black screen for about 2 minutes waiting for the desktop to load with the old kernel(9.1.0)."

eddie11c 02-15-2008 08:39 PM

Glad to hear its working for people, until a new kernel is released that works on non EFI machines the only way i know of avoiding the 2 minute wait is running in VESA mode .ie no QE/CI.

As far as configuring EFI. You need to have some other source to store the files to set it up. I think it could be done from the install DVD from terminal, but you still need a mountable source other than your OSX drive to run the startupfiletool.

damnesiac 02-15-2008 08:46 PM

eddie is right, im pretty sure a spare fat32 formatted drive would do the trick. as logn as it's read/write i guess

CyCLoBoT 02-15-2008 09:38 PM

I installed the update and everything is running smoothly but one thing I noticed is that in System Profiler, for the number of cores its just showing 1. I have AMD X2. Before the 10.5.2 update, it was showing 2. Also is it safe to install the Graphics update?

cgsheen 02-15-2008 10:15 PM

Same here - just shows one core. Both are working so it's no big deal though... I (stupidly) went for the "graphics update" from the Apple Software Update. Shouldn't have done that! It just brought back the NVDAresman kernel panic for my 8600GTS and I had to find a graphics installer that worked again. PITA...

Otherwise the 10.5.2 AMD Update was GREAT! Thanks!!!

I'm running 9C31, EFI, with the 9.2 kernel

(oh, it crapped out Toast... I don't have a problem with anything else, just Toast...)

damnesiac 02-15-2008 10:24 PM

Yep, toast don't work here no more either. Photoshop recognises my graphics card perfectly though and 3d acceleration seems to be working.

Well for me, i downloaded the lastest NVinject.kext 0.2.1 (search for it in Google "nvinject.fr") and Netkas SMBIOS.kext (located in PC EFI V80 folder) Sudo Chown & Chmod both of them, repair disk permissions and reboot it and everything worked out perfectly "Toast", "Time Machine" ...hope it helps

cgsheen 02-15-2008 10:30 PM

Thanks! I forgot Time Machine!

zephyroth 02-15-2008 10:38 PM

Is anybody experiencing the "Info.plist exceptions" issue with this update or by using the Netkas method to update to 10.5.2 ?

damnesiac 02-15-2008 10:42 PM

Nope can't say I am, although my marvell yukon is only working at max 60kb/s and I'm getting this error

Code:

Feb 16 02:17:33 davos-mac kernel[0]: AppleYukon2: 00000000,00000000 sk98osx_dnet - recovering from missed interrupt
Feb 16 02:18:03: --- last message repeated 4 times ---

Stupid missed interrupt, back to nforce for me.

Puttabong 02-15-2008 10:44 PM

Eddie, your Torrent has an average speed of about 5 KB/s for me, I like 1 MB/s :D

Please upload it to a different Source other than Torrent :)

cgsheen 02-15-2008 10:49 PM

I'm uploading to MediaFire right now, but it's going kind of slowly... Strike that - it's too big for MediaFire.

Puttabong 02-15-2008 10:57 PM

cgsheen, Thanks !! but you will have to split the file to upload to mediafire I guess, because it has a 100 MB limit.

Use Megaupload! 500 MB File Limit!

lag0matic 02-15-2008 11:33 PM

This torrent is making me cry.. 6.8k/s .. terrible.

And, it keep stopping, drops to 0.0.. and I have to restart it.. lol

damnesiac 02-15-2008 11:34 PM

I'm doing the best seeding I can fellas.

cgsheen 02-15-2008 11:44 PM

Sending now to Megaupload. I'm at work - DSL connection... It'll take about an hour to finish.

Puttabong 02-16-2008 12:05 AM

Thank you cgsheen :)

No, looking through the console as it installs doesn't show anything out of the ordinary for me.
