How good is your computer?

Rate it! On how good of a OS X system it is! Depending on what things worked straight out of the box, and what didn't, or what still doesn't

I believe my comp would be the perfect hackmac because everything EXCEPT my sound is supported on my mobo and sometimes that even works for me :) lol

i give it a 8/10 because of my Low amount of RAM(512MB) and my Sound(Realtek ALC860)

KEEP EM' COMING GUYS!
~EDIT~
7/10, i forgot im not running retail :P Pentium 4 *sigh*

SportsGuy 05-17-2009 08:53 PM

If I could get it all working, I would give it 9/10

I have plenty of RAM(8GB) and a good processor(Intel Core 2 Quad 2.83GHz)

I just have to get my drivers all straightened out

JoesMorgue 05-17-2009 08:57 PM

I rate it 2/10.

No sound, no netwerking, poor video. Won't accept kexts.

Reads NTFS, Burns disks, creates files for my son Zune. Entire project has been educational!

xXrkidXx 05-17-2009 08:57 PM

sounds good dude :)

ouch dude, u might want to look into Pystar if its that bad lol

naquaada 05-17-2009 09:05 PM

It's not possible to rate a system by working out-of-the-box, that depends very much on the installation image. On my system Leo4All V3 was working perfect (or were the X1600Pro gfx drivers not working?), but now the image is rather old and wouldn't support my HD2600XT, iDeneb worked too, but there were some other problems, iPC wasn't installing audio drivers, no gfx drivers for the X1600Pro. The last image I tested, XxX 10.5.6 Final 2, is working perfectly, but it isn't installing audio drivers and you have to know which additional options to select. And it's also depending on the drivers, forcedeth or forcedeth-v for nForce LAN was unstable, nForceLAN works perfect.

These are my boards:

Asus A8N-E FM/S - 100%, although it is an Fujitsu-Siemens OEM board
Asus A8N-SLI Premium - 99.9% - SiI3114 not supported
Asus K8N-E Deluxe - 99.9% - SiI3114 not supported
Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe- 100%, but not in use.

In Tiger 10.4.7 my SiliconImage SiI3114 onboard controllers were supported by a modified AppleVIAATA.kext, in Leopard it isn't working anymore. But I don't need it anyway, so it's 100% at least for me. The K8N-E Deluxe is a AMD Socket 754/nForce 3-250/AGP board, but it has the same onboard components as the Premium, so it should work. I'm using on all boards ATI Radeon HD2600XT cards, AGP and PCI-E versions.

xXrkidXx 05-17-2009 09:12 PM

im just saying rate it on how good YOU think it is...

anyways i just did xBench :D 80.40, is that good? lol

naquaada 05-17-2009 09:27 PM

I would rate my boards all 100%, that's why I don't need new systems, although Socket 939 is rather outdated.

Xbench comparisons are also very difficult because Xbench isn't very accurate and is testing so much different things. For example, my Athlon 64 3400+ Socket 754 and my Athlon 64 3700+ Socket 939 (both 2.2 GHz) had an cpu-only of about 70-75, but the Socket 754 system had a much lower total result because the AGP graphics was extremely slow, only about 40-45. It also depends on the OS installation, a direct 10.5.6 installation was always slower than an updated 10.5.3 -> 10.5.6 system.

My actual system using Leo4All 10.5.3, Socket 939 Dual-Core Opteron 185 overclocked @ 2.95 GHz using 333 MHz RAM and an ATI Radeon HD2600XT and an Samsung HD103UJ harddisk (very fast) gets 141.48 points, running three tests.

SaCleoCheater 05-17-2009 09:34 PM

The sig says all!

10/10

Not really if you take the fact that most users get 140-200, but that's enough i think ;) It all depends on what do you need it for. For office/mail/messengers etc, it's more than enough. Mine got 94 points or so, and it's working good for almost every purpose.

xXrkidXx 05-18-2009 01:12 AM

oh... oh well :) it runs fine, all though i just did get 3 kernel panic screens before it booted for some reason, xD its working correctly now... lost my sound again >.<

Ali C. 05-18-2009 03:09 AM

I'd rate mine an 8/10. With this SATA drive it runs smooth as buttah even under pressure. However, everything needs something thrown at it to work well, I needed a separate card for my mobo (*shakes fist at onboard video*) and the SB700 is a pain to get an install disc to load on, but once you're past that, the rest is a (slow until the SB700 kexts are installed) piece of cake. XBench gives it 119. Blame iTunes and iChat running.:p

dpollard55 05-18-2009 05:20 AM

9

I'd give mine a 9 even though it's coming up on 4 years old. It's a HP Pavillion a1600n, AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+, 2GB DDR2 533 RAM, 250GB SATA Drive, ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro PCIe. It does everything I ask fairly well in OS X. Currently running XxX_10.5.6 updated to 10.5.7. If I pick the right options during install than everything just works out the box on this system.

xXrkidXx 05-18-2009 06:06 PM

nice guys :D they sound like awsome computers :)

MoC 05-19-2009 04:47 AM

I'd give mine a 7/10 even though it isn't much. Sure I have problems with the graphics card at times but the system has kind of grown on me for an older Pentium 4 rig. I like it, but I will be getting something this August before school starts. I have loads of old crap lying around but it's fun to mess around with it. And I have an iBook which satisfies my needs for OS X (and will continue to).

Aydinz 05-19-2009 08:13 AM

10/10

perfect retail install :) all components work. and all i need to do when i update is delete the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement kext and replace AppleHDA.kext and my system is fully working again. the system runs like a dream :)

xXrkidXx 05-19-2009 12:51 PM

you are one lucky man then ;D lol

MoC, its still a good comp ^_^

zuz242 05-19-2009 01:45 PM

right now i would rate mine 9,5/10. everthing is running smooth, any problems a well hidden (eg. havnīt checked sleep / power magagement ..)

but it took some time and lotīs of try and error to get it running as desired. esp.my passive ati 3870 did not work as easy as expected. so the score would be ovall 7/10.

next machine might be intel (or a real macbook...) but right now im fine with my amd.

JoesMorgue 05-19-2009 06:48 PM

I'm upgrading mine to about a 3. No Netwerk or sound yet, but it looks like the video problems are lessor than they were.

I did an install of another OSX that was recommened to me with all the drivers I need. I did it over the old one. I kept my settings, but not everything got fixed, and I havn't had a chance to toy with them yet, as my wife needs Vista for a while today....

I would love for it to be SSE3... :P lol

xXrkidXx 05-23-2009 02:57 PM

i have a HT SSE3 :D lol

TechSgtChen 06-03-2009 11:06 AM

Mine rates 9/10. As stable as the Macs I owned before it. Most of the time, I don't even remember I'm on a Hackintosh. Love seeing four CPU meters in iStat menus. If only I could get sleep to work, I'd be in heaven.

throttlemeister 06-03-2009 12:09 PM

Desktop (Asus P4K Deluxe, Q6600, 4GB, nVidia 8600GTS): 10/10
Laptop (see sig): 7/10
MBP: 10/10 ;)

fairlyodd 07-26-2009 03:55 AM

I would rate mine a 9/10. Simply because I can't get QE/CI or rotation enabled on my X1650 Pro. I finally updated my 10.4.6 which was very problematic to say the least. I am now a proud owner of a 99% fully functional 10.4.11 system. I am not sure it is worth the trouble to update to Leo..to many issues.;)

Ianxxx 07-31-2009 08:49 PM

As far as my osx installation goes I'd rate mine 10/10 everything works, sleep including waking from usb, can't think of a single thing wrong :-)

Installed and running full successfully Zephyroth's Mac OS X 10.5.2 Rev2 for AMD systems on my old AMD Sempron 2600 system from the first shot.Incredibly how everything's working perfectly:graphics, sound, network(pppoe service),apps's updates, etc, unless the system upgrades(10.5.8 combo upgrade) because of my unsupported cpu(AMD Athlon 3000 64bit 2,0Ghz single core).Upgraded successfully to 9.50 Voodoo kernel too.I patched the combo upgrades with Zephyroth's AMD patcher but it didn't worked, the system refuses to boot anymore with any flags. But I didn't try yet the ASU 0.5 beta software update for this.In rest the other updates from apple.com worked(itune, quicktime, airport, frontrow, etc.),patc hed and unpatched too, unless the java update and safari(still the old 3.0 version).:)

I have a Toshiba L-305 laptop and it works 100%

WIFI: WORKS!

Graphics: WORKS!!

Quartz Extreme: WORKS!!!

DVD-RAM: WORKS!!!!

Sound: WORKS!!!!!

Track Pad and KeyBoard: WORKS!!!!!!

will1384 01-01-2010 09:55 PM

I would rate my system a 9.5 out of 10, everything works, except sleep, and I think I could get it to work, I just don't care ;)

Motherboard = GIGABYTE GA-EP43-UD3L
CPU = Intel Pentium E6300 Wolfdale 2.8GHz
Memory = A-DATA 2 x 2GB DDR2 800
Video Card = Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 512MB, XFX GS250XYDFC

(1) Sound (Realtek ALC888) worked with a kext

(2) Network (Realtek 8111C) worked out of the box

(3) Video (Nvidia GeForce GTS 250) worked with GraphicsEnabler

tehsusenoh 01-10-2010 04:11 PM

I rate my new computer a 7/10

Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz
No-name Mobo
nForce Chipset
Some Realtek Sound
8GB RAM
1.64TB Hard Drive Space
GeForce 9800GT 512MB

7 because the Q8200 is the worst Intel quad core, I can't get any DVDs to boot because of the chipset, and that I have no idea what the sound is.

Running windows it's an 8 tho!

lflashl 01-10-2010 11:25 PM

a rating based on Out Of The Box, i would give mine 8/10 i have networking, but no sound or video with kext! overall i love my system planing some upgrades from E6300 to Q8400, 2Gigs to 4Gigs and new Case LIAN-LI PC-A05NB with a few mods inside paint/window/mac logo thinkin of getting BluRay Drive and have been lookin @ sound card CREATIVE SOUND BLASTER X-FI TITANIUM PCI-E there seems to some support for this card, and cause this is also my windows machine, this will turn into gaming machine when needed. Other than that nothing more is needed.
