I tried to upgrade my system(iatkos 10.5.5) but it failed. I followed the instructions in the dvd. I downloaded the software updates and installed them. After the pc restarts i cant boot into mac osx. What am i doing wrong. Do i need to do something before downloading the updates. Whats the correct way?

Generally yes, though I have just read that link through i gave you. It does assume that you are using pretty compatible hardware. Can you put your hardware details in your sig please so we can give you better advice?
Also before you do anything I would advise you make that recovery partition like I mentioned in the other thread in case things go wrong. |

to make sure your mach_kernel doesnt get overwritten look on the root of your hardrive. then go to Extra, then right click on com.apple.boot.plist and click get info, click the lock at the bottom and change it so everybody can read and write. then when u can write to the file, open it and go to where it says Mach_kernel in the quotes and change it to mach_kernel.voodoo if thts the kernel your using. then just install the update. after you may need to patch your sound again, video drivers, and System.kext(to fix mounting issues, system.kext will have to be updated to 9.5.5 AFTER you install the update, search insanely mac forums. i suggest backing up all your kexts so you dont have any trouble if the need to get some back arrises.
good luck! edit also, just go to the root of your hardrive to make a copy of the mach_kernel and just copy it to the desktop, or someplace easy for you to remember. |

Come on guys... Anything
|
It's a hidden file, there are a few apps out there to show invisibles or you can just do it from the command line.
It's much easier though if you use OSX86Tools, it has options to install, backup and restore kernels |
Is there a guide for osx86 tools(just in case i have any questions)
