Hi, just excited to download, burn and ... go for install. But ... it still doesn't detect my HD and even USB drive too, no hope !!!
My spec: Laptop HP pavillon dv2715nr chipset/southbridge Nforce 560 Gforce go 7150M build in graphic 160G WD HD Broadcom wireless. Does any help to fix the installer detect the HD? |
Did you follow all of the steps to make the partition that you are installing Leopard onto, ACTIVE?
|
Thx for yr reply. It did not detect my HD how could I partition ????? it is un-located new HD. This is a drive problem not a partition prob.
|
You need to blank the partitions so theres no format in the partition table you can do it with a windows disk you just delete the partition table so its all free space.
then boot the leopard disk and it should see the blank space and allow you to partition it. Can you use guid partitions in 10.5.2 because of the Efi? does that mean you can boot from a guid partition without using mbr partitioning? |
if needed format with the windows disk then delete the partitions and then try the osx and see if it sees the drive
goodluck |
Cant even get into the installer:
"Still waiting for root device" Anyone know how to solve this? Heard something about enabling ACHI in bios, but I dont have that option in my BIOS. Thanks AMD 64 3700+ GeForce 6600 GT 250gb s-ata disk IDE dvd drive |
Anybody have the problem when installing, and going into diskutil to partition your drive, the hard drives show up but no dvd's drives show up, like in 10.5.1?
|
It all works ok but I partitioned in guid and now It won't boot from the partition.
even after I do fdisk -e /dev/fdisk0 update f 2 (which is where my install is) w q at boot it just comes up as b0 Anyone got any idea's do I need to use another command for fdisk for a guid part. or do I just have to use mbr partitions? |
The easiest way is to install using MBR partitions
|
Hey zeph any reason why my cd-rom isn't showing up in the installer nor in leopard, or even in the install itself under diskutil
|
SATA or IDE ?
|
Hey zeph i just want to say first thanks for taking the time to answer all the questions you can, greatly appreciate it.
it's a TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L63M ATA DEVICE-So SATA right? The think it worked in your 10.5.1 cd |
If we use mbr then the efi doesn't work correct?
The efi seems to work great when booting with the cd its just i can't get it to see the bootloader on the drive. Has anyone managed to boot a guid install with the efi bootloader? |
like I said, It did not detect my HD, DVD, and even pluged USB drive, it means there are nothing show up in disk utilities even the booting DVD in the DVD drive.
Again, I using hirren boot CD to delete all partitions, the drive totally blank, free space, un-located. I can use 10.5.1 install to my USB drive. The problem is I want to install it into my internal HD so that OSx will be the primary OS that why I waitting for Rev2 (which you call now 10.5.2 Rev1). But it still did not detect the HD and it more worster than the old ver. (10.5.1) is show not thing in diskutilities (for my laptop). Again my laptop chipset and southbridge is NForce 560, does a 10.5.2 support it? if it is, how does it not detect the HD? and how to fix it? Please!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
A lot of people are experiencing the same error. Interestingly enough, it is not an error. I encountered the same thing, and this is what I did.
heres the deal, Make sure your partition is configured with MBR (Master Boot Record), and assure that the name of your Partition/HD Volume is one word only, i.e. Leopard, not Macintosh HD. Lastly, make sure the Bootloader you install is MBR as well. You should be on the road then. - WinLinMac01 Quote:

WinLinMac01: Do you get my point????? the installer did not detect HD How do I partition it?????
Ok What I do now is restore win Vista back to Part 1 40G,(ofcourse the HD now is MBR), un-located (free space) 120G. Boot DVD still not detect HD and DVD |
That's strange. What kind of HD is this, ATA right? Most likely I would suppose. Format the existing data and see if the drive is detectable in the BIOS, and lastly, assure that the ribbons are securely attached. That's the best I can tell since I've never encountered this in a Mac.

I tried installing 10.5.1 and I could get past everything but It wouldn't format my HD
so i waited for 10.5.2 because the nforce drivers were going to included in this one I have all sata drives I don't have the option to use IDE now i get Still waiting for root device anyway to solve this The Inspiron 531 uses a motherboard manufactured by Gigabyte (arguably an ASUS board) for Dell. It uses a nVidia nForce 4 chipset with an on-board video card. It also has on-board sound (Realtek) and an on-board gigabit NIC. It has one PCIe x16, One PCIe x1, and two PCI card slots. It has four DIMM memory slots, and four SATA connectors. The 531 motherboard does not support PATA or IDE drives without the use of a third-party controller. that is my computer ^^^^ |

@rishard10212
post hardware specs. same problem doesn't always mean same solution depending on hardware. Thanks. EDIT: Also, what variant of OSx86 are you installing? |
HP Pavilion dv2840se
AMD Turion™ 64 X2 TL-62 x2 3968 MB RAM GeForce 7150M WDC WD2500BEVS-60UST0 ATA Device (232 GB, IDE) Slimtype DVD A DS8A1H ATA Device nForce 560 His system is similar to mine, so that is why I said i have the same problem. |
I'm exhaust......
i burn the dvd at 4x & 2x speed, and ever ends (in the verification process) with "too much erros message, and the instalation is freez in someone step. Is my dvd/cd hardware crashing??? The iso's has been downloaded from here (yours links). Please, maby be truth? |
Go with a different distro. right now there are too many old problems with making that one work OOTB for different hardware. I had no luck with the rev1 or rev2 of the 10.5.2 because nForce wasn't well supported in the boot-up sequence. I've gone over to Leo4All and LawlessPPC for more adaptability to my hardware. Give them a try.
