Snow Leopard AMD?

Hi,

I am new to these forums. I came here from InsanelyMac because they do not have a Snow Leopard forum.

Anyway, I would like to know how to go about installing Snow on my AMD laptop. I don't understand everything with OSx86 but I have learned a lot.

Thanks for any help,
Agg23

if you are novice maybe you would wait for full featured non legacy amd kernel, that be only after realese 10.6
legacy kernel has some limitation.

agg23 07-28-2009 07:51 PM

What are some of the limitations? Snow Leopard will be only for fun since my graphics card will never be supported.

You could try running DmitriK's Legacy kernel from the first post in the topic in the link posted above.

What build of Snow and how do I install the kernel?

Sorry if my question is very noob like.

Ya gotta start somewhere ;)
  1. Open up Terminal
  2. type (without quotes) "sudo -s"
  3. then type "cp /path/to/kernel /Volumes/SnowLeopardPartitionName"
  4. Thats it! Reboot

Thanks for understanding :) It seems like most OSx86 users expect you to know everything.

Back to the subject,
How should I install Snow? With Pacifist? Is there any build (of Snow) you would recommend?

Thanks again,
Agg23

The best Snow Leopard build image to start off with is 10A380. There are instructions on how to install in this guide:
http://www.infinitemac.com/f57/how-t...on-a-pc-t3137/

agg23 07-29-2009 12:17 AM

Should I follow the complete guide?

Also the DmitriK kernel that is posted says it is for Snow Leopard 10A394. Will this work with 10A380?

With the install process on the topic you linked to, will all of those tools needed work on Tiger? I will me replacing my Leopard install with Snow so I cannot use it.

Thanks

Ah, in the guide, some of the packages in the file I included in the Download links only run on Leopard+

I'm guessing you could extract them using Pacifist and install manually. Other than that everything else should work.

It would be a good idea to follow the entire guide for now, of course if you get stuck, you could post that here on on the guide' topic.

DmitriK's kernel might work for 10A380, I'm pretty sure it will.

agg23 07-29-2009 01:04 PM

OK

I'll try it out as soon as my download completes. My average speed has been between 20 and 40 KB/s.

In step 4, instead of installing the kexts with OSx86 Tools, will the Terminal code you posted work?
In step 6, what is a custom DSDT?

Sorry for all of the questions

agg23 07-31-2009 05:38 PM

It is finaly done downloading! Should I just start following the instructions?

agg23 08-02-2009 02:27 PM

I got started with the guide, but when it says:

Step 1
Extract Snow Leopard Files Updated.zip and open "Chameleon-2-1.0-r431.pkg". Install the package.

Step 2
In Snow Leopard Files Updated, install the Chameleon v2 Snow Leopard support from Netkas' PC-EFI v10 (MAKE SURE CHAMELEON V2 IS INSTALLED!)

Do I install on these packages where Snow will be or on my current boot drive?

agg23 08-02-2009 05:10 PM

I am now at the step where you patch the DSDT. I have tried both the GUI program and the command line and it always comes up with errors.

What can I do?

Also, I don't have a dsmos.kext to install.

agg23 08-02-2009 06:08 PM

Anyone????

agg23 08-13-2009 07:53 PM

I can't get it working. What should I do?

I can't even load the Chameleon bootloader.

My specs are

~Compaq Presario F768WM
~AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core Processor TK-55
~2GB DDR2 RAM
~GeForce 7000M Graphics Card (Shared Memory)

About dsmos.kext, can I use the one from my Leopard install?

Also, is the Chameleon bootloader necessary?

Thanks,
Agg23
