ATI 2600 xt pcie & Snow Leopard Troubles

hello - I am running SL on asus p5w dh deluxe everything is working except for the graphics card. I have no video just sound with black screen.

SL, Efi bootloader from lancelotu, alc882 on voodoohda.

Thankful for any good advice aside from "get a new one" :-)

I have the same card.

Usign natit + evoenabler, deleted ATIRadeonx2000.kext and ATI2600controller.kext..

Only 1024*768 resolution, waiting for something new...

I'm not tested yet.
I'll post my result

I have this video card too, which works fine in 10.5.8.

Maybe we should just buy a cheap GeForce 8600 GT from ebay? Or a 8800?

berehon 08-27-2009 10:07 PM

My MSI RX2600XT-T2D256EZ/D3 works without QE and CI, but I can change resolution. For example, now I have 1280x1024. I am using Natit (old, not silent). I deleted all ATI 2000 kext (otherwise i had just black screen). Need QE and CI.

thanks folks!!! I am afraid we will all need to go hunt for a cheap nvidia card :-( if we want all that qe and cl to work.

valdanta68 08-28-2009 08:54 PM

I'm afraid I'm in the same boat. So what's the cheapest nVidia card that supports OpenCL and is compatible with Snow Leopard?

ico 08-29-2009 11:19 AM

cheapest i could find was the best of the lower -price range nvidia cards from asus geforce en 9500 gt di gddr3 pci-e 512mb for 61 euros amozon it.

DarkJ 08-29-2009 01:12 PM

i'm planning to buy an 8800...

jtillwick 10-01-2009 08:30 PM

So, is this dead? Even though the iMacs with 2600 cards in them work fine with QE/CI in Snow Leopard, we are just giving up on the hackintosh end?

max22 10-02-2009 12:13 PM

they have a different firmware
also see http://netkas.org/?p=182

I have a HD2400 PCI-e which doesn't have qe/ci under [edit]snowleo[/edit] either, so I'm in the same boat. It will, however, play some video with Quicktime player, but since there's no hardware acceleration it uses the CPU and isn't nearly as smooth as 10.5.8. VLC won't play anything at all, oddly. I can't afford a new card, so I guess I'm stuck with 10.5.8 until/unless some genius (netkas?) comes up with a solution. ;(

Who said anything about OpenCL. OpenCL and QE/CI are not dependent on one another. I believe the issue is simply that no one is willing to put the effort forth to get the 2600 series to work with QE/CI on Snow Leopard. And that is a damn shame.

This thread is specifically Snow Leopard. You are in the wrong place.

Wow. You don't need to be rude about it. It is disappointing that a large number of people in the hackintosh community have to buy a new card to use Snow Leopard. No one is blaming any of the community developers for not fixing the problem, but the fact that there is very, very little out there to suggest that anyone is trying is a bit disheartening.

If I had the capability to help solve the problem, you can be sure I would be.

pc efi from netkas has 2600 and 3870 support now.
on netkas.org there is a install guide

max22 12-16-2009 12:50 PM

don't think this is news, ati hd2600 is supported, but no QE -> still slow

Just unterstood that the 2600XT on the imac work because they are Mobility Chips.

From netkas:
  • GraphicsEnabler now supports Radeon hd 2/3 series too, but only for Leopard
  • Added GE support for 2600 and 3870 in snowleopard, need to remove x2000.kext to get reschange, other pre-4xxx cards need to be tested yet
Sounds to me like it doesn't enable acceleration, only resolution change, and I got that working on my 2400 long ago...

jtillwick 08-18-2010 08:29 PM

Is there no way to use a DSDT hack to get full QE/CI on the 2600 cards? I have a ATI 2600 XT and a 2600 Pro. If Snow Leopard only works with the mobility chipset, is there no way to do a firmware flash to get them working?

jtillwick 08-18-2010 08:30 PM

It is so frustrating that the AGP Nvidia 6200 I have works just fine with QE/CI, but my 2 newer ATI 2600 cards wont work, and most likely never will.
