Post installation help.

Successful install...
Biostar 790GX
X2 550BE
GTS250
Maxtor HDD
Leo4All AMD only 10.5.4

But it won't boot without the DVD in the tray. How can I fix that? Also, resolution is only at 1024x768, how do I properly install a kext for my card so I can have resolution options?

Thanks.

What's the problem, if you try to boot without the DVD?

Maybe it'll help you to install the Chameleon v2 bootloader...

punk_zappa 09-06-2009 06:47 AM

Thanks for replying.

If the DVD is not in the tray it will just reboot constantly. The only way to boot it properly is with the DVD in the tray and wait. Successful all the time but I would like to boot it with just the HDD so I can have a dual boot option later on.

How can I add the boot loader to the OSX install so I don't have to use the disc?

Dano77 09-06-2009 07:56 AM

Have you tried booting without the cd with the -v option so you can see where it's kackin'?

Also, with the CD in, i believe up in the utilities menu there shoudl be an "install bootloader" section up there.

Imkantus 09-07-2009 03:38 PM

@Dano77
What more than nothing should he see, if it just restarts?^^

@punk_zappa
You can try to make use of a different Kernel, or as I recommended above try to use latest Chameleon Bootloader > Download - just install the pkg from within OS X. :)

punk_zappa 09-09-2009 07:58 PM

Thanks.

That worked. Never thought it would be a simple fix. I just installed RC2 since it is auto install and works like a charm.

Any ideas how to get the proper resolution working? I tried editing the string and now it is stuck at the Apple logo with the spinning wheel.

punk_zappa 09-09-2009 08:29 PM

Resolution is fixed by using this;
http://pcwizcomputer.com/index.php?o...d=31&Itemid=32

I just found out USB aren't working but my keyboard and mouse are USB but when I connect my flash drive it doesn't detect it.

Imkantus 09-10-2009 12:42 AM

Open Terminal & hit "uname -a" command, then go to /System/Library/Extensions" right-click on system.kext and let it display Informations. Compare the Version of you Kernel and the system.kext - maybe there is a mismatch...

punk_zappa 09-10-2009 07:46 PM

What should I be looking for? There are version and info plist, either one doesn't match what the terminal says.

From Terminal, Darwin kernel v. 9.2

From version.plist, CFBundleVersion 9.4

Thanks for taking the time to help me out. Highly appreciated.

Nope, much easier - just click "Get Info" ;)

Well OK, here is System.kext v9.2.0 - just install it using KextHelper b7 - this should do the fix for the USB issue. :)

punk_zappa 09-11-2009 07:19 AM

Thanks. That worked.

Just another one: You might like to update your bootloader and to add an EFI String for you graphiccard, what should gonna work as it's just a different brand for the 9800GTX+ as far as I know. :) This should give you fully working graphic acceleration (QE, etc) what's definetly better than just having a higher resolution.

punk_zappa 09-11-2009 04:03 PM

Do you mind giving me instructions on how to do that?

Sure I can. :)
I don't know which bootloader you're running but even if you've selected PC_Efi v8 on Setup, I would recommend to update it to at least v9 before you continue - if you're running the Darwin Bootloader this would be essential.
Then create a back-up of your /Library/Prefernces/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.boot.plist
Get the latest OSx86 Tools, open them and choose "Add EFI String / Boot Flag" Option, click "GFX Strings" - if you have 512MB you can try if the predifined 9800GTX one will work for you, otherwise select "Custom GeForce", first field is freeform, second your VRAM, the last your output configuration. Next select "Import String to Boot Editor" and "Apply changes to com.apple.boot.plist"
(If it doesn't take effect immediataley you might have to copy your boot.plist to /Extra folder first.)

Thanks. I am running Darwin.

Also, can you give me instructions on how to update my version to 10.5.8? I have iDeneb combo update and I am not sure if it will work properly as I've heard it is not ideal to update from .4 to .8 directly. Your thoughts on this?

Imkantus 09-13-2009 10:54 AM

- forget about the part of my text I removed from here, I missed something out, so it didn't match onto your configuration -

Get the latest AMD Patcher by Zephyroth, download every Update separatly and patch it with that tool. The more Back-up your complete Extensions before you continue. Out of my own experience I can tell you, that updating a fully patched system is very painfull procedure, it's a big profit if you have some Unix skills.

For the Graphiccard you can try this: http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=370 instead of using EFI Strinsg. :)

punk_zappa 09-13-2009 06:58 PM

Thank you very much. I won't be able to try these as I am working for the next few days. I will let you know the result.

punk_zappa 09-14-2009 07:56 PM

Updated to 10.5.5 using Zephyroth's AMD patcher and it is running good. I have options now for video resolution. Thank you very much for the tip.

Imkantus 09-14-2009 09:33 PM

Glad everything is fine for you so far.
Remind to do some back-ups from time to time to prevent you from the vexation of loosing your current status. ;)

Just the resolutions? Or is Quartz Extreme enabled also? You can check this by opening Systemprofiler and go to "Graphics/Displays" section. If QE is not listed as supported, I can give you futher instructions onto this:

You still need to put your device ID in NVDAResman.kext and NVDANVX0hal.kext (depending on the GPU generation).
Reboot.
What will enable it. :)

punk_zappa 09-15-2009 07:11 PM

It says QE is supported.

USB headset doesn't work.

I have a Microsoft LX-3000 USB headset and it doesn't work when plugged in. The volume control and mute button works though. I tried using it with SKYPE and I only hear sound coming from speakers and not from headset. Also, SKYPE keeps crashing during test call. Any tips on how to get software like that to work?

Thanks.

punk_zappa 09-16-2009 06:01 PM

Solved

I had the headset connected on boot and, VOILA, it was there and SKYPE doesn't crash anymore.

punk_zappa 09-19-2009 07:34 PM

Another problem occurred after updating to 10.5.6, it cannot mount .dmg files anymore as it asks to be restarted every time. Same result using Pacifist. I have matched my Darwin version and System.kext version but problem still persist.

My kernel is 9.2, there is no seatbelt fix for that version. Can I upgrade my kernel and system kext and get the appropriate seatbelt.kext?

EDIT: My system.kext was 9.8 before I went back to 9.2 thinking it will be fixed that way and forgot to backup it up. Will it fix the problem if I revert back to 9.8 and install the seatbelt kext for it?

punk_zappa 09-20-2009 11:58 PM

FIXED.

I was able to extract the 9.8 System.kext from the 10.5.8 update and installed Seatbelt.kext for it.
