Install OSX SL using Ubuntu
Hi, I'm using Ubuntu, but I just decided to try out Mac OSX, I've downloaded a SL, but I've been told that it would not work, and I need to emule it to work. I'm a kind of a beginner so I don't know how to emule it. Any help or a guide would be appreciated.
Thanks alot :) |
Emule is actually a P2P program that you can use to obtain the disk. What you really need to worry about is if your hardware is supported.
|
And how would I know if my hardware is supported?
|
Post you're hardware specs... maybe we can help :)

Processor: 2.50 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor T9300, 6 MB Level 2 cache
RAM: 4GB Graphics Card: NVIDI GeForce 8400M GS, up to 1407 MB (128 MB dedicated) Display: 14.1” WXGA High Definition BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800) Hard Drive: 320 GB Wireless: Intel Pro/Wireless 2200 802.11b/g Integrated Wireless LAN Any more specifications required ? |
Yes, chipset please? And audio?
You can run vanilla kernel You can use EFI strings for video Wireless might work for you not sure... |
The chipset is Intel I guess, but I just can't get the model. Sorry but it's not indicated any where. I do have HP dv2860ee.
I think the audio is Conexant High-Definition SmartAudio 221. |
Chipset as in ICH8/9/10/Nforce?
|
Thanks, I just checked it again, it is ICH8.

You can get detailed info from your hardware using lspci while in Ubuntu.
If your SATA controller supports AHCI installing Snow Leo should be easy, the rest of the hardware you would have to make it work bit by bit, lots of research and lots of trial and error and plenty of patience. Keep in mind you also need to repartition your HD or use a spare HD, You can use gparted to do that from Ubuntu. Installing from a USB stick or a spare HD partition is much easier than using a DVD disc. |
Ok, thanks alot.
Just a couple of questions, I'm still a beginner. How do I know my SATA controller supports AHCI? Any guide on how to install it from a spare HD using Ubuntu? I have already downloaded a version of OSX SL, can I install it? Someone told me I have to emule it, how can I? Or I need a custom version? EDIT: After using lspci, I got this: Code:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile PM965/GM965/GL960 Memory Controller Hub (rev 0c) |

They probably told you to emulate it, running it in Emulation with VirtualBox, VMWare or similar, not emule. Thats different than installing it in real hardware. Installing in real hardware will add another OS to your computer, installing in a emulation environment will only let you run it from inside Ubuntu with limited performance. I think you should do a little bit more of research before you know what you want to do with OS X... |

Can I use the version I already downloaded, or I need to download a custom version to work with me? |
I got no clue what version you downloaded, but I think there is only one custom version of SL and reports tell that it doesnt work so well so it would be better, though much harder, to install the original retail disc.
You cant straight install it though, by just putting the disc in the reader and rebooting, you need a bootloader like chameleon or netkas pcefi, a way to make a bootcd, some needed kexts or someone with a working os x to copy the disc to a disc partition. |
I downloaded a retail version.
Unforunately, I don't know anyone who already working with a OSX, what are my other options? |
The version I downloaded is in .cdr form, how can I use it?
What is iATKOS? And is it better to use it or I can use the retail version I downloaded? (I read that the last version of iATKOS has 10.5.7, not 10.6) |
Your other options could be:
- Installing Leopard first with iAtkos or similar, then make a USB installer or a BootCD for Snow with the installed Leo. - Using BootThink to make USB loader and boot the retail Snow DVD, you would need Windows from that, never tried it myself but its supposed to work. |

Now, I got iATKO v7, installed MacOSX Leo, but it just doesn't start, after it finishes installation and reboot, it just stops at the white page where there's Apple logo, and the loading circle under it, but nothing loads!
I reinstalled, but the same thing goes. Any help would be appreciated. |
