Click the "tools" (I think) bar on the menubar. Click Disk Utilities, and format your HD to HFS+

Then choose the HDD.

How did you make the bootable stick? You probably missed to include the necessary kexts that support your SATA controller, if its not supported by OS X you definitely need to do that to see any disks.

Rebel6... please read my SL tutorial, it has many answer to your questions.

For instance, are you on a laptop? If so, DO NOT use Western Digital drives. Apple had major issues with them in real macbooks, I found out the hard way because I bought one and after 20 million attempts, the disk failed. Swapped for a Seagate and installed the first go.

Also another forum member reported the exact same thing!

In Snow Leo, after installing kext to EITHER E/E or S/L/E you must run Kext Utilities and the Repair Permissions

The first thing I'd do is find out what sata chipset (maker & model and device id if posible) you have there, then you can find out which exact kext you need, if there's one available.

It looks like your board has Intel ICH6 SATA Controller which I believe it doesnt support AHCI (you could check your BIOS settings just in case you have that option, but I doubt it).
You need a modded version or AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext with support for your ICH6 device id, your best bet would be this one from Dune, its for Leopard 10.5.8 but it should work in Snow if you boot in 32 bits (-x32 or arch=i386). Alternatively you could try this other one from netkas or this other one from sigmaris which are built for Snow, but they are probably missing support for ICH6, you would have to add your ICH6 device id to its plist.
