Snow Problems (Installing on a Gateway 838GM with 512 Mb of RAM)

Well today was a very exciting day. For the first time I was able to boot into the Snow leopard installer Via USB. Well fail, it got all the way to select your language, I chose English, and then it loads and says the disk could not be read or something. Please clean it off and try again. I cant clean a flash drive.. Please help!!!!

Ok well i was in a rush to try something my friend suggested...

heres a run down..
I can boot.
I cant continue the Install.
I can do everything else.

and something I noticed, None of my drives are showing up in System Profiler or Disk Utility... What going on?? It says No SATA Devices are detected... and ive never had to switch from IDE to ACHI or anything like that before... its always been straight forward and easy to boot.

Ok are you booting off usb or a dvd with boot 1-2-3? u need to replace the original ioatafamily.kext in /volumes/(name of installer)/System/Library/Extensions/ with the one i attached and your sata should now be seen.

im booting using Chameleon 2 RC3, and Netkas PCEFI 10.4, no boot 132... USB

thanks, ill give it a go.

xXrkidXx 10-24-2009 03:39 AM

nope... no change :( still only showing booting flashdrive, and the install is messed up.

scififan68 10-24-2009 03:43 AM

ok you need to repair perms by going to /Volumes/(installer)/System/Library
then do sudo -s type your pass, then chown -R root:wheel Extensions/* and chmod -R 755 Extensions/* and boot the installer with -v -f, is it working?

ill make sure i try all this stuff tommorrow... thanks for all your help :)

xXrkidXx 10-25-2009 08:25 PM

bump...? anybody???

spalek83 10-25-2009 09:27 PM

RAM: 512MB / 4GB Max, 2 DDR Channels |

are you using 512 mb of memory?

xXrkidXx 10-25-2009 11:38 PM

yea. but i used the patched OSInstall (that bypasses ALL checks on everything including RAM) i kno the minimum required is 1GB

scififan68 10-25-2009 11:46 PM

How much ram you got? you need a min of 1GB for snow leopard otherwise i dont think it will install.

xXrkidXx 10-26-2009 12:32 AM

.. theres a patched OSInstall File that bypasses the checks. i am trying to use it, but for some reason its not working. i have 512MB

It doesn't include the ram requirement, so the only way your gonna be able to install it is pick up another 512mb stick or a gig stick.

xXrkidXx 10-26-2009 12:51 AM

... the patched one i have does.

http://prasys.co.cc/2009/08/installi...ard-for-osx86/

Scroll down to the part about OSinstall files. there is one tht bypasses everything.

xXrkidXx 10-26-2009 12:34 PM

ok well i think i might have been using the wrong patch... I redownloaded the correct patch and will try it after school.. as I live in the US, and our government is mean and makes us get up really early lol. ill post back later
