iPC 10.5.6 Final only starts sometimes....

Hey I have installed iPC 10.5.6 final and everything works well except that the pc only starts sometimes. I can get it to boot 100% if i first boot in windows and then restart and boot in mac then it always work but i don't wanna do that everytime. What happens when i boot in mac is that it will stay at black screen with a cursor in the corner and i can't move the mouse.
I have no idea why it only works sometimes.

Thanks for all help :)

Please post your complete Hardware.
Furhtermore, let it boot into black screen once, the boot it using your method and hit the following on Terminal: "cp /var/log/system.log ~/Desktop/system.log" (The ~ you can get by WindowsKey + N) and attach the file, which appeared on your Desktop. Maybe that will help us analyzing your problem.

I think it is something wrong with the shutdown because when i'm in mac and use shutdown and then try to start it again i get first apple screen then black and then blue and last a black screen with a cursor in the corner and can't move it. When i use Restart in mac everything works well so i guess something is wrong with the shutdown part.

Hello,

Well, you know what? I too have that problem with iPC updated to 10.5.8. Everything works perfect but to boot correctly I have to boot into Windows then restart and OS X works great, otherwise if I boot it first I get stuck in a blue screen after the apple logo. I wonder what is causing this...

Yeah i hate it. I hope someone got a soulotion...

You might try to use this Utility, to shutdown your computer:

I have tried it now but it didn't help... same problem with black screen

chico_stang 11-01-2009 02:26 PM

Imkantus, I used the utility but it did not solve problem. I also tried with the OpenHaltRestart kext. None work. On a side note, I revised the log file and found this line which I think has something to do with the problem (not completey sure though):

com.apple.PCIESlotCheck[107]: [PCIESlotCheck] Error reading PCIE lane config. Unable to check PCIE slots for changes.

I have tried if it was anything wrong with the mac shutdown put if i log in to windows and shutdown and then start computer again and boot in mac i get black screen. So only when i log in windows and use restart is the only way to get into mac.....

Just an update.

I changed the video card (GeForce 8400 GS) to a Radeon x1650 Pro. Problem is still there. QE/CI, resolution, everything works. But when I hit shut down, then turn on the PC and let OS X boot, it gets stuck in a blue screen right before going to the desktop. If I boot Windows first, then reboot and let OS X boot, OS X boots perfectly. It seems the problem is with the shutdown. On a side note, if I remove the video card drivers, OS X always boots correctly, even if I shut down. So the problem is related to shutting down and having the card activated (meaning QE/CI/Resolution).

Have tried with 3 different video cards. For now I give up. If someone has a clue as to why this happens (I have no idea) please let us know. I have searched the net and it seems no one else has this problem.

Glad its working for you. Here it isn't. And I don't think it is the card since I tried with an ATI and it does the same thing. I've also tried many drivers with no luck.

ok have you tried to install with no drives and then run Nvidia installer 3.0? I did that and i chose the NVinject 0.2.0 instead for 0.2.1 that is in iPC 10.5.6 final and that worked try it out if you haven't.

God luck :)

Tried. Didn't work. Forget it, I give up. Been trying for a week.
