Hey there,
overall 10.5.2 works pretty well for me. Nontheless i have two things giving me a headache. First thing is my screensaver. I've set it to "Never" and the screensaver still comes up after a few hours. I guess my second problem is a result of the screensaver. As soon as the screensaver come up i can start to count the minutes until my first program crashes. Sometimes it happens a few hours later, sometimes only a few minutes. No matter which program, they all crash with the usual "Program closed due ... blabla" error message. Nothing more and nothing less. Once and a time i can restart the program and it's pretty stable then but nontheless it's annoying to loose stuff i have done in Photoshop. So i could really need a helping hand. Thanks in advance, Tom Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ RAM: 1 GB DDR 333 GFX: XFX GeForce 8600GT 256MB By the way, i can't modify the RAM-timings. My god damn cheap a-- MoBo doesn't support modding or overclocking -.- 26.02.08 13:35:23 com.apple.launchd[134] ([0x0-0x19019].com.adobe.Photoshop[257]) Exited abnormally: Floating point exception 26.02.08 13:36:27 com.apple.launchd[134] ([0x0-0x14014].org.mozilla.firefox[209]) Exited abnormally: Floating point exception 26.02.08 16:14:29 com.apple.launchd[134] ([0x0-0x27027].org.mozilla.firefox[406]) Exited abnormally: Floating point exception |
I have a feeling not being able to stop the screensaver might be an apple bug rather than an osx bug.
Just a thought but have you run marvin's on your system? |
Until now not, no. To be honest, i'm a little afraid that it could crash my system. I'm not a crack if it comes to OS X and every crash could result in a complete reinstall which would take me a few hours (last time it took around 4 hours).
So is there something i should have taken care of before running Marvin's tool? |

choose second option create patcher package when completed check log for errors, remove any corresponding errors from cpuid.txt copy patches folder including patcher and cpuid.txt to root of your drive boot -s mount -uw / cd /patches ./patcher cpuid.txt thats it. Just remove any errors, don't think there is much chance of it wrecking system at least it never has on mine |
Thanks for your time lanxxx, i'll give it a shot =)
|
nevermind...

Hm ... now i'm unsure again ^^
I don't think there are errors except the one at the bottom ... nontheless i've zipped the files in the log folder. Would someone check them please? Like i said, i prefer to ask twice to make sure that everythig is ok =) __http://rapidshare.com/files/95134258/Archiv.zip.html If everything is ok i'll proceed with the next step. |
There are errors but they shouldnt cause any probs.
|
Ok, so i'll go on and report what happened =)
//edit So far everything looks ok, thank you very much! Let's see if those annoying crashes are gone. Bye and greetings, Tom |
Update:
My system is absolute stable now. No crashes since yesterday, no jumping mouse and no scratching audio. lanxxx, you've solved all my problems. Now my system is perfect. Thanks again!! |

i have some similar issues (safari and other apps crashing) and some more:
- USB problems - scratchy alert sounds - time machine doesnt work i tried marvins but i am not sure if i did it right. i choosed "create a patcher package" and selected the system volume. then i ran the application. i got following log: ************************** * Marvin's AMD Utility v.25 - 2008.02.28 16:29:38 ************************************************** ************************************************** ********** * Input arguments: * target_dir="/" * dmount="/" * cat="leopard" * do_make_patcher_pkg="yes" * simulation_mode="yes" * undo="no" ************************************************** ************************************************** ********** Searching for binaries in: /Applications Searching for binaries in: /Backup Extensions Searching for binaries in: /BaseSystem.pkg.142RyhlY9 Searching for binaries in: /Library Searching for binaries in: /System Searching for binaries in: /bin Searching for binaries in: /home Searching for binaries in: /private Searching for binaries in: /sbin Searching for binaries in: /usr Done searching for binaries. I've got a Realtek ALC850. What sound card do you have? I'm trying to find a different driver that works. Apparently the Azalia driver from the Jas 10.4.8 dvd supports the ALC850 but i can't find it anywhere :( |

First, when i wanted to try out the sound i recognized those scrytchy alert sounds - so i looked around and tried different kexts. Then i found out that - even with the original kexts - sound works fine (itunes, alerts from third party apps, even from mail). Only the original alert sounds make that noisy sound - if they are played by the system. All kexts which i tried didnt solve the problem. |
i tried the Azalia drivers from 10.4.9 Uphuck too - they worked fine when i was running that system. But dont work now with leopard.

lanxxx, thank you for the instructions. I will try it out as soon as i have installed leopard again. For now, i switched back to tiger, because i have the feeling that some of the problems which appeared have nothing to to with installing leo on pc - i guess those safari crashes etc. are a leopard specific problem in general. i found a lot of topics in forums where people had problems with leopard (people who own a mac...).
by the way: those problems confuse me a little bit: i was thinking about getting a mac this year and now i am not more sure if osx is really that stable like i thought before... well, maybe wait for 10.5.3 and hope the best ... |
To be honest there seems to be one or two bugs, as you would expect with any new operating system, but we're not talking the scale of a microsoft new update.
The only bug I can find that I can put down to Apple is that I can't turn off the screen saver. I think that's about it. Safari doesnt crash. Firefox does but not very often. But that seems to be a well known fact. Though I must admit I don't think leopard is yet as stable as Tiger, and yes bugs are being ironed out all the time. I'm sure the amd community and Zeph will have much improved the next DVD release even if it doesnt have new apple updates |
yes, i guess that can be true - so i am looking forward to the next release and hope that the apple people have an eye on the community and will integrate the improvements in the next update.
the screensaver issue appears on tiger too. so i have set "put the display to sleep when the computer is inactive for:" to 15 minutes and the screensaver to 20 minutes. that works fine. |
well, this leopard-thingy makes me restless - just backuped my fresh-installed tiger and tried again to install leopard...
this time i didnt wait after freeze until the computer reboots itself - i waited about 10 minutes after that"1-minute-before-end-freeze" appeared and then i rebooted. now i tried to find the install.log - but it doesnt seem to be there. is it possible that it is written in the last part of installation? |
now i ran marvins again, here the log:
