[Discuss] Update 10.6.4 Safety !!!!
http://modmyi.com/images/10.6.4.png
It's been only 3 months since our last update for OS X Snow Leopard. Since this release, Apple has worked on a number of fixes, more than you can even keep count of. Although I never really had any problems with the last release, it appears there were plenty of problems that needed correcting. Is it safe to update on our hackintoshs? Or what to do please I have downloaded it yesterday and ready to update..... |
I have updated it successfully
and copied this Kexts to Extensions:- ======================== AppleSMBIOS.kext IOATAFamily.kext ======================== And i have rebooted and it works perfectly. Good Luck all  |
You are still using hardcoded AppleSMBIOS? What's the issue with using the Vanilla kext?

Hi, i did it without any patch. I used Apple Software Update and updated my Snow Leopard 10.6.2 to 10.6.4. At reboot i got a kernel panic (SleepEnabler) but i rebooted in -s and typed this:
mount -uw / cd System/Library/Extensions rm -rf SleepEnabler.kext reboot and it worked fine! My Kernel is: The original one from Apple. I'm not using a patched one ;) |
hi pro,, after update my mac shutdow error, please help, thx a lot, :d

I got a kernel panic... so I can't go into safety mode (-s), but if I can install mac on a flash drive (I have done before) and remove SleepEnabler, I'll be fine? |

As can you imagine, i search BEFORE ask to share THIS .kext file, because all 4 different versions that i download doesnt work. But is ok, thank you for nothing. |
I'm really stuck on this guys and I was wondering if you could help me out. I have no experience using the terminal.
So, i have the kernal panic issue with the sleepenabler. it wont boot into verbose or single user mode, but it will obviously boot from the installation DVD. Is there a guide available which will show me how to mount my drive, and disable the sleepenabler? If not, is there any chance that one of you would be kind enough to give me a quick step by step? I would really appreciate it. thanks in advance cheaps |

Hope this helps! |
I updated successfully taking caution to remove the sleep enabler kext (that didn't work anyway) and everything still works fine and dandy except for my GMA X4500 graphics crad that used to work on 10.6.2.

All I have is access to terminal (after booting up from the install DVD), and as I mentioned, I am not proficient in using the terminal at all... If anyone could help me I would be most grateful. |
I'm not the best at terminal either... Maybe try this??:
mount -uw / rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/****.kext |
10.6.1... Trying to get to 10.6.4
All,
I've got a Gigabyte G31M-ES2L and I'm currently running 10.6.1. I've tried taking a few updates (10.6.2 and 10.6.4) "naturally" via Software Update, but I keep getting Kernel Panics. At this point I've tried removing the /Extra/Extensions/SleepEnabler.ktext file with no luck. Does anyone have an idea on why I get a panic without this .ktext? Even after I've removed the .ktext from the system, I get the same error?? Does the system still think I have the SleepEnabler.ktext in the /Extensions folders??? Also, I am using SuperDuper! to create a bootable clone of my MacOS before I test any updates... If I boot into my clone backup and then try to update, there is no going back... As in, the bootable drive now has the 10.6.X update and causes an immediate Kernel Panic causing me to trash the new clone and start all over... Does anyone have a better way of "testing" the Apple builds? Is it possible to recover via "-x" or safemode? http://i46.tinypic.com/68sj78.jpg What's Under the Hood: Gigabyte G31M-ES2L 4 GB DDR2 SDRAM nVidia GeForce 8600 GT SONY DVD RW DRU-720A AppleUSBUHCI Apple Bluetooth Software Version: 2.2.3f8 |

Same happened with me, but my SleepEnabler.kext was in /System/Library/Extensions/. Deleted it, and everything is OK |
atleast you got a KP.
i was happily using 10.6.2 and i have spent weeks fine tuning it and everything, but i fought, i'll give updating ago. (never had luck with updating on tiger and Normal Leopard). so i spent 3 hours downloading the update (slow Internet times) and once it finally installed, i rebooted! then again....then again,,,,then again. Chameleon doesn't even try to load the partition. i tried to go into Verbose mode, by nothing loads (no code no nothing!). by this time, a through my keyboard out the window (it's half past 4 in the morning. and i start cursing.) I don't know what the problem is, to not load the first bit of code? anyway, i have installed the latest Chameleon 2 RC4 version, still no luck. here my specs if they help: Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2 (Nforce 430 (Nvidia 6100)) Nvidia 9800GT AMD 2.7 GHz athlon Black edition. i'm using the Legacy kernel by the way. ;D |

You are sure you made a Kernel-back-up before Update and restored the patched one before reboot? |
I did a fresh install (retail .mpkg way from ihackintosh.com) of snow leopard 10.6 and then installed MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.4.dmg update and it KP'd during "writing receipts" and I thought all was lost. . .
I then rebooted once which then rebooted by itself to finish updating and low and behold, it started up. . . I then installed legacy_kernel-10.4.0.pkg which replaced the old modbin mach_kernel.test7 kernel and had to use an older IOUSBFamily.kext all is well. . .so far |
WooooooooW
I didn't see my post from a while :) Good Luck all Using 10.6.4 I Think i have problems with (About this mac "Crash")......... I'm Trying fixing it right now |
Hi, I've installed 10.6.4 Combo update but after restart I got this screen and everything stops. Tried verbose to see what is the problem but nothing happened. I think it's a kernel problem. I've backuped kernel via OSxTools and saved it before update, but how to take it back to where it should be?
