Thank you so much.

Nice, is there any difference between this and the kernel nawcom published on insanelymac?
|
Hello,
Works like a charm..... This kernel is going to be better an better. Would be really great that it would possible to boot with arch=x86_64 with Chameleon2 RC5 because with RC4 it is no problem but i need to use this version of bootloader because of the injection for my graphicscard..... One thing iīve to say. It is really great that the community have people like you! I know itīs a really hard work. So iīve to say thanks for all your hard work... ;) Greetz |

The only difference is that it removes certain routines that causes reset on 64bit kernel.
Other than that it is identical. |
x86_64 's Kernel panic (AppleACPIPlatform)
Thanks a lot for this new update :)
when I use the "arch=i386 -force64" everything works like a charm, both 32 & 64 bits apps but when I use the "arch=x86_64" (with or without -force64), I get stuck with this KP related to AppleACPIPlatform FYI, I'm running the SL (retail) updated to 10.6.5 on my AMD P-II x4 & my ATI SB790 mobo (using your AppleATIATA-7 kext) http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/7753/x8664kp.gif |
If i try to boot with arch=x86_64 it allways restarts. :(
With RC4 instead of RC5 it doesnīt restart but i canīt get into OS (because of my graphicscard) so that i can say for sure that it is the bootloader. My CPU is a AMD Athlon 64 X2..... Or could this problem triggered from an kext? I use one kext where i canīt say if it is 64 Bit compatible.... (SB600_SATA_ATA) Iīm right with it that i would be not able to boot with -force64 if it is not? It would be really interessting how to solve the problem.... Greetz |

hum, anvalv isn't working with this kernel unlike the nawcom kernel, it gives me a instant reboot with 64 and 32 bit.
With chameleon 4 it works with 32bit but 64gives me the AppleACPIPlatform kernel panic, but I guess it will take some time before thats fixed. Just out of curiosity, which bootloader do you recommend us to use with your kernel? Anyhow great work! |
I use the anvalv boot loader myself.
I guess it depends on the hardware wether it works or not... For those who are wondering: I use the following one (latest) http://rapidshare.com/files/433917787/boot.zip |
Hey Andy,
i tried to use your appleatiata but it donīt work as it should. I was not able to burn cdīs or dvdīs. Do you have an idea whatīs the reason for it? Thx & Greetz |

Otherwise I would have fixed that issue some time ago. |
First of all great work to every one,
I have been able to boot the 64 kernel on my machine (wow!) I have an issue I hope someone can help me with. I have a NVidia 8500 GT and it's not working properly. Using GraphicEnabler=yes I get a black screen every now and then and some colored lines poping all around. But then with the previous kernel 10.6.5 it started working fine. But with the last release it broke again :( It is basically very annoying but you can still do some work on it. I did search for it a while a go but couldn't find anything useful. Since it seems to be kernel related perhaps someone can shed some light. By the way with the 64 kernel it works much better with minimal issues (but then my network driver breaks :() Thx |

Sadly on my AMD Phenom II x4,
it panics randomly even in 32-bits mode (booting with arch=i386 ; either with/without -force64) Warning: invalid kernel IP, wont attempt to handle trap http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/9334/kprandom.jpg |
Thanks andy
Thanks alot using this right now on OS X Server.

A big thanx to Andy and all of the people included in this project. Kernel is excelent.
Almoust a year ago I gave up from SL on my AMD machine (GA MA-790X UD4P, AMD Phenom II X2 550, 8 Gb DDR2 667 RAM, ATI HD 3850), but I gave it a try few days ago and it was a succsses :) I installed 10.6.3 SL from .dmg on my 10.5.6 installation, put a few kexts in S/L/E and E/E folders, dsdt, newest chameleon, and PCI EFI and this kernel, and I'm able to boot in safe mode. Updated to 10.6.5 and I'm stuck again with safe mode (I guess due to VGA). There are few more problems that are not related with the kernel that I need to solve: 1. BIOS resets - DSDT needs RTC patching (shouldn't be a problem). 2. USB mass storage devices not working, although USB mouse works perfectly (a saw a fix floating around OSX86 forums) 3. Audio doesnt work on Realtek ALC889A (there are a lot of kexts, I need to tryout) 4. Upon start up I need to plug out and plug in PS2 keyboard in order to work. 5. My VGA doesnt work with QE/CI in SL, will have to buy a new one. I can only boot to safe mode, upon the normal boot I get stuck with a black screen. I have a question about the kernel: I installed it after 10.6.5 combo update froma pkg installer. What do I need to patch and how? I was out of a OSX86 SL for a while, I'm a bit rusty :D Andy, good luck with developing a on the fly patcher for the kernel ;) |

Wtf
I solved the usb problem using USB kexts from 10.6.2 but when connecting some usb device like a pendrive, in a while the whole system lags.

Opteron 8 core KFN5-D SLI install
Fantastic work Andy!!
I have the 10.6.5.v1 kernel running on a dual processor Opteron 8 core server board. Used the SL10.6.2 Hazard CD for the install and replaced the 10.6.2 kernel (which didn't work well) with Andys 9.17-v1 binary. Boot option: -force64 arch=i386 busratio=12 and the patcher =-50 (probably to high). Only one outstanding issue that I can not find a solution for and that is the Realtek ALC880 sound ship. :( Absolutly great work and many thanks to Andy and all who worked on this. If anybody has an idea for the ALC880 problem.....:-/ Hardware: ASUS KFN5-D SLI server board, Nvidia MCP55 chipset, Two Opteron 2358SE 4 core (each), 8 gb Kingston ECC REG DDR2-667, Nvidia 8600GT vidio, WD 36gb SATA Raptor, WD 40gb IDE ATA, Realtek 8139 net chip, ASUS DVD +/-R/RW Optical IDE, and the crappy ALC880 sound thing. BIOS options: Used defaults. SL 10.6 installs on both the parallel and SATA drives. I mention this because of reading that there have been parallel HD install problems. I'm new to OSX so please excuse any ignorance. With the help of the forum I'll get over it. cheers :D |
my 10.6.5 is down

Hello guys,
I am just new posting to this forum but I was reading it since long time... I had installed 10.6.4 on my HP Compaq 6530b Laptop on an external USB drive, that was working great until I upgraded to 10.6.5 when my system got down. After two days of reparations using OS X installed on a VMWare I could repair the files in my hard drive but unfortunately I have lost the mach_kernel, and then I have downloaded the mach_kernel posted in this topic, I unzipped it, copied it to the root on my hard drive and applied chown 0:0 and chmod 755 on the mach_kernel using sudo -s in the terminal and rebooted using the USB drive with -v arch=i386 flags... When start loading the files, it is showing that it is loading the mach_kernel TWICE!! as per the image (1.jpg), I can see from the image (2.jpg) that the Darwin Kernel loaded is 10.5.0 which is correct I assume? when continuing with the boot it is showing messages saying invalid kernel ip, won't attempt.... as per image (4.jpg) If I am booting with only flag -v i am getting the screen (3.jpg) Can you please guys help me out on this. Thanks in advance... Ghaith |

When I was doing hardware upgrades the day before yesterday, I had to reboot my system several times (if no software updates have to be applied, I am otherwise not used to do so :p), whereby I had to discover that the kernel integrated patched dyld wasn't working all the time (sometimes 32-Bit Apps are still crashing by sysenter traps) after another reboot it was working again...
I then patched dyld manually and passed std_dyld=Yes to the Kernel what seems to have solved my problem so far, this also has resolved the messed controls and browser content in Firefox, I was expiring with all 10.5.0 Kernels before ...kinda strange.... |

Legacy kernel compatibility
I was wondering if my system is compatible with this legacy kernel:
AMD Athlon 64 X Dual core 6400+ Asus Crosshair motherboard (AM2 nForce 590) NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS Thanks for the help! |
Noob question
So I'm booting with this kernel seemingly okay at the moment.
But how do I use the patcher? I've googled, never found anything useful. Cheers Danny |
Quote:
You setup is nearly same as mine, I have the same cpu and motherboard, but I've just sold my 8800GTX as I'm not gaming anymore. Are you running SL successully on the crosshair? I had much trouble getting the system to run properly with AppleNForceATA.kext, it caused all sorts of problems from missing cd/dvd drive to huge I/O operations. It seems reasonable at the moment but I'm not convinced it's right, I'm hoping someones gonna update the AppleNForceATA or SuperNForceATA at some point and iron it out properly. Anyway, back to your question, I've installed this kernel and it seems to be running okay in x86 happily enough. Cheers Danny |
Okay I'm getting some errors in the kernel log.
--------- JNL: unknown-dev: journal replay done disk0s2: ioctl(_IOR,'d',79,4) is unsupported warning: kernel was not built with custom dyld blob warning: using standard dydl with patcher enabled --------- Whats this about and can it be ignored? Cheers Danny |

I am actually in the process of getting SL working, thank you for all of that information! Which AppleNForceATA.kext are you using? I have found several links but I'm not sure what I should use. Thanks again |

I ended up with an older one below, the TEST version. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/ind...howtopic=77071 |
Hi,
Is this the same version just posted on insanelymac.com? Also, I've been testing this version and uname reports it as version 10.5.0? I assume this is as expected given that this kernel is based on Darwin 10.5.0! FYI it boots without any flags into x86, it also boots fine using arch=i386 -force64 flags. Seems to run pretty good with the latter.
