Hope you guys can help me with this one

Mar 18 10:35:11 d54C18B21 /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[237]: Backup failed with error: 18
Mar 18 10:41:56 d54C18B21 /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[305]: Backup requested due to disk attach
Mar 18 10:41:56 d54C18B21 /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[305]: Starting standard backup
Mar 18 10:41:56 d54C18B21 /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[305]: Error: Volume at path /Volumes/TM does not appear to be the correct backup volume for this computer.
Mar 18 10:41:56 d54C18B21 /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[305]: Backup failed with error: 18
.
I've tried erasing, renaming, fixing permissions, deleting com.apple.timemachine.plist, reselecting disk. It has been a few weeks since I did my last update but nothing major changed in my OS so I'm stunned.

Thx for the help in advance

Try with this fix

Snow 03-18-2008 03:32 PM

I think I've already tried this but will do it again, thx for the speedy reply bro ;)

Same deal bud :(

I don't know if it's normal but I cannot repair permissions on any of the USB volumes (Storage, Tiger and Time Machine)
Mind you, I didn't have any probs a few weeks ago.

roisoft 03-18-2008 03:48 PM

do you see the error 35 in your logs? if so, try with this

Snow 03-18-2008 05:56 PM

No error 35 as far as I can tell, just above error and in Time Machine prefs it says that it cannot find backup volume.

Like it keeps searching for previous backups.

Snow 03-18-2008 06:21 PM

Another error in console:

"failed to get MAC address for machine"

My net works though and Ethernet tab shows adress.

any ideas?

I have this issue too, it seems to be an issue with the MAC address that cannot be found indeed. flexlm has that too, so e.g. maple won't activate.

Those with a working time machine could you please share the IONetworking and SMBIOS kext you are using, thx.

Getting the similar error here, this is a fresh install of Rev. 2 I used the IONetworking.kext provided above and that got rid of the MAC Address cannot be found error.

WOOT! I don't know what the problem was... I went to Time Machine Pref's turned Time Machine to Off, clicked change Backup Disk; selected the same disk and it works!

Well Snowman, looks like you've got a little update to occupy yourself with for a while:

Yes I've it working and have re-installed a full back up from it.

gaz919 03-21-2008 03:09 PM

Ive had it working fine, you just need to press yesterday in a folder window the first time to kick it past the crash it gives the first time you try to look at your backups.

And network timemachine kext fix prob helps a little too.

Good Luck

I don't have a clue what happend here. No matter what I don't even get the slightest progress with this issue.

I think I tried just about anything now. And I won't give into trying the new Zeph release. I've done my share of reinstalls for now.
Hopefully it'll start working without any reason some day, cause that's how it got broken too inthe first place.

You guys using GUID or MBR drive partition?

jbeckers 03-21-2008 03:57 PM

both fail in my experience.

Is the MAC address error important for this issue?

jbeckers 03-23-2008 01:45 PM

yes, time machine uses a disk-specific ID that is somehow based on or compared to the MAC adress of your computer. google once told me this, but I cannot find the page right now.

when you check your startup log, you'll probably see that there is an error message that "no network card can be found" or alike. I guess this is the same issue.

Snow 03-23-2008 02:12 PM

Odd cause we do have net and a MAC adress. A whole friggin reinstall just to get TM working, awesome. I need a break :/
