|

|
Thanks for information

backup your kernel, system.kext and before reboot replace it with the old one |
Can you replace the old kernel and system.kext after the reboot? My install is broke from that update =(
|
[EDIT: sorry misunderstood the question :) ]
|
are you in windows? you can use macdrive or transmac, copy the old kernel(root) and the system.kext(/system/library/extensions), then copy the patches folder to the leo root and boot with -s and type
mount -uw / cd /patches ./replace.sh ./patcher cpuid.txt |
I don't have my old system.kext, Is there anything I can do?
|
use this zip file
|
My install is screwed up after update. I even replaced the old kernel and system.kext. I ran Marvin's utility and it found some decrypted (loginwindow and mds) and few cpuids but its not patching when I run the patcher using -s mode.
Please help!!! |
guess i won't be installing this update
|
Maybe a silly question but have you remembered to mount your OS X partition before running the pacher in -s mode?

My mistake. I forgot to run the replace.sh script file. Everything is okay now.

Thanks for the zip, I replaced everything but things still aren't working. I'm getting a kernel panic after about 10 seconds. I'll run the patcher and get back to you guys.
|
Ahh. fuck this. it just destroyed my system, in spite of my backing up system.kext and kernel and carefully applying replace.sh and the patcher.
Apple, you are pissing me off. I have a parallel installation of tiger running - anyone has an idea on how i can save the system? |
works great here, but doesn't fix the time machine "backup volume not found" bug.
|
"scrapped my last comment"
|
forget it :)
|
It brakes system, hell, I'll try it then, yeeehaaaaa!
No luck yet Jbeckers? Same here lad, post your pc spec and what has changed since it worked the last time. I changed SMBIOS but tried reversing and no luck. Sorry for those who broke the system with the update, had the same deal with 10.5.2 update some time ago. I suggest waiting for Eddie (or asking him) when there are major updates that could brake the system. |
roisoft, did what you wrote, but now I get at kernel panic at start up.
Noting els to do, that do a reinstall :( |
My system is broken as this update. Damm...
Anyone success this update? |
I have installed everything except kernel and system.kext
gonna try those in a minute Install method download, install using pacafist everything except kernel and system.kext without rebooting run marvins and create patcher file reboot -s run patcher and replace.sh Done. |
@ Mulan, what kind of panic?
|
just pic that tells you too reboot
|
boot with -v and post the error, please...
|
it stops at
"kernel version darwin kernel version 9.2.0...." |
try with this one, they are the 9.1.0 version, and if it works you can replace them after repair the system.
|
all went fine for me, i ran marvins amd from tiger, replaced mach_kernal and all is good
edit** and replaced "System.kext" of course |
Yeah, I always say the same, people with amd systems must to have a second working leo/tiger for the updates, this is the safest way.
With Guid is very simple, with a success install of leopard split the disk and make a partition, (8-10 gb enough), open disk utility and click on restore, drag&drop Leo(1) into the source and drag&drop Leo(2) into the target, apply, and thatīs all, you will have a second working leo for the updates and patches. |
now after I restared back to windows, I can't see my mac drives with macdrive, they all corrupted now, fuck apples file system, pice of crap!
can't even boot up with "-s". |
Roisoft or anyone, could you post your loginwindow and mds?
I suspect the one in the archive is actually corrupted? When i unzip the file (on a perfeclty healthy macbook), i get two files which are not stricto sensu considered applications (i.e. : can't show package content, and doesn't have that ruler and pencil icon or whatever). Are you sure your file is healthy? |
they arenīt the apps only the binaries, they must be placed in
/System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/Metadata.framework/Versions/A/Support |
New RAW update for aperature and iphoto installed without problems.
|
Theres is a new security update through Software Update. Is it safe to install? I'm afraid as hell to break the system as it works flawlessly now :))
|
You can install the latest security update without any issues

Lol....and yet apples is 1000 times better than windows, keep in mind were running this on computers it wasnt meant for...Do some research before getting in over your head dude |
EDIT: DISREGARD. FIXED ISSUES WITH 9.2.2. SEE THREAD HERE: http://www.infinitemac.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=894&page=6#Item_10
roisoft: I have a second working leo partition that I'm typing this on now. Unfortunately, my first leo partition is hosed with the software update, and I've tried the 9.2.0 and 9.1.0 kernels and system.kexts posted here. I've also tried the kernel and system.kext from my fresh install. I've also rebooted into -s mode with the new install, chroot'ed to my first corrupt install, ran the patcher and replace scripts after each kernel replacement, and I'm still left with the kernel panic described above: http://img261.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00303rr8.jpg Hope the bbcode works, none of it seems to be showing up right on the forum right now. Let me know if you can't read the text in the picture, and I'll take a better one. |
hey i'm using zeph's rev.2 with all updates except of timemachine (i dont need time machine and airport but it messed up my last install with a lot of bugs), using kernel 9.2.2, system.kext 9.2.2 and latest smbios.kext
everyting seems to be working flawlessly. when i set shares of soulseex (about 9000 files) the mouse is buggy during the scan, and i dont know why. it has always been so, with all os x versions i ever had on my pc. but it is really annoying everytime i run the program. anyone knows why that is and maybe how to fix that? then i have another question: after updating software i ran marvins utility from the actual boot partition in terminal. patches seem to be working but i didnt mount the partition. is it bad? or is it not necessary under bott prtition running? soory the english cheers |
hi roisoft or anyone else that can help,
can you reupload the patches.zip file posted in an earlier message on this topic? when i click on that link now, the file that downloads is not a valid zip file. i would like to patch up the loginwindow.app and CoreService.framework binaries to get them to work. thanks! |
Not sure if this is directly related to the Time Machine software update, but see my issue in this other thread: http://www.infinitemac.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=285&page=1#Item_4 . It is really annoying, as I don't know what's causing my machine to load OSX, but don't load the Finder menu bar (nor any other startup programs). Help, please!
Thanks |
@edgargoncalves:
i think the issue is related - the time machine software update includes updated loginwindow.app and CoreService.framework and these have cpuid's that have to be patched. there is a patches.zip link earlier in this thread, but it's not to a valid file. i have requested for the file to be re-uploaded. it might help you to run the patch if/whenever it's available again. |
@whodat:
Thanks, I had tried the patch before, but as you''ve said, it was invalid. I trust that a "real" loginwindow.app and the other file (i.e., taken from a Macbook running an up-to-date leopard) won't work either, right? those are the only ones I can access to. Unless there is a way to fetch those files from the Zephyroth's instalation disc - do you think it is doable? |
I suppose this patch can fix our troubles. It's on another thread on this forum:
Quote:
|
:( it won't work... the command ./patcher cpuid.txt fails, telling me it cannot read the information from there... any clues?
|
You need to move the patches folder to the root of the hard drive. Now boot into single user mode with the -s flag and type:
Code:
mount -uw / |
Correction - it works just fine! just a problem with the copy from Windows to MAc using TransMac (something to do with permissions, i suppose). copied the zip, unzipped it in the Mac shell and voila! It's done :)
Cheers! |
