Hey guys I did a search in the forum but didnt find much. My problem is that I installed both ilife 08 and iwork 08 on my Zephyroth AMD rev 1, but when I open the apps they all unexpectedly quit. All of them keynotes, pages, iphoto, imovie, etc. Garageband just forces me to restart. I did update all the software, like it said on another post on this forum but it did not work. Any suggestions on what I can do? I would really appreciate it.

Read the forum, run marvins
on revision one opengl framework needs patching |
Do you have Quartz Extreme & Core Image enabled? I believe that these applications don't work without.
|
mine work fine
after patching i burn all my dvd through idvd |
hint: AppleSMBios.kext........
and Marvin's |
Thanks guys! I will run Marvins Utility after I figure out how to do it. I will also check the qe+ci. Also what is applesm.bios.kext? Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. Although I am not on my pc till tomorrow but I will let you know what happens.
|
well marvins utility is a little confusing. My question is: do I just patch everything?
|
you run the 2nd option
than there will be a folder call patcher there should be a cuid text file in that folder now you select the 3rd option where it say cuid file put that cuid text file there than in the folder option put the folder that you ran the 2nd option in there run it in sim mode first too see if you get errors if you get error look at the log file that comes up and look for the errors than go in to the cuid text file and delete the errors than run it again in sim mode to see if you still get errors. If no error uncheck sim mod and patch if you have more question ask |
My pc says quarts extreme is not supported! :-( May i need a driver or am i screwed?
Here is what it says in the Display/Graphics: Type: Display Bus: PCI VRAM (Total): 256 MB Vendor: ATI (0x1002) Device ID: 0x5954 Revision ID: 0x0000 Kernel Extension Info: No Kext Loaded Displays: Display: Resolution: 1024 x 768 Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Software Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Not Supported |
well i ran marvin on my extensions folder and no decrypts were formed so i got no text file. what volume do i run marvin on, is it a specific folder or the whole leopard drive? thanks
|
run it on your apps folder
|
i ran marvins, and it patched some things. Thanks for your help guys! Although my Quartz Etreme says its not supported, maybe i need a kext or something. any idea guys. My other apps dont work without this.

what is your graphics card???
|
This is what i got from the product info from the website (it says integrated graphics) :
Video graphics -Internal onboard graphics using system memory -PCI Express x16 slot Base processor Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2 GHz 2000 MT/s (Mega Transfers/second) Socket 939 Chipset ATI Radeon XPress 200 Motherboard Manufacturer: MSI Motherboard Name: MS-7093 HP motherboard name: Albacore-GL6E Here is a link to the site page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00361528&lc=en&cc=us&lang=en&pro duct=483902&dlc=en EDIT: I did erase a natit.kext but i dont know if that has anything to do with it. After installing leo, it kept saying it had a problem with that kext so i tossed it. Also I appreciate so much you taking the time to help me out. I am also searching for possible solutions, but your help has saved me so much time. thanks. |
you can try these files for your card
http://www.mediafire.com/?9mmyejzvxom and if that doesn't work go here and see if you can find something else that will work http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=34068 |
I now tested Toast Titanium 9 and it is only working on 10.5.1 RC2, not 10.5.1 + Update or direct 10.5.2 RC1 installation. There are a lot of progs working on 10.5.1 but not on 10.5.2. Is the 10.5.2 RC2 image available yet?
|
yeah there is 10.5.2 r2
|
Hi naquaada, i can confirm toast 9 is working in 10.5.1 rc2 (updated to 10.5.2 using eddie11c patch)..
|
popcorn even works on rc2
|
I think, not sure, that my problem is that qe+ci is not supported therefor not on, so that is why these programs (ilife 08 and iwork 08, although I did get Iphoto to work after patching) dont work. They open but just kind of freeze and dont do anything. Garage band does not work at all, it just makes me restart. I did find that there is not really any support for my "crappy" graphics card. This sucks! If your ideas dont work, I think my only option is to buy a new compatible one. I will let you know what happens when I get off of work. Unfortunately it will be until later tonight, tomorrow the latest. Thanks again for the help.
|
your graphics card as far as i can read will not support qe-ci because the driver isn't there for it and there is no fix for it at this time
if you want to run leopard and these programs your best bet is to buy a different card |
@hey, You are right. iLife & iWork don't work without Quartz Extreme & Core Image. And unfortunately there are many more applications which don't work.
But think about it. It's not possible to use Cover Flow in Finder, it's not possible to see any Graphic Rendering, it's not possible to use many Applications, and after all, the system doesn't run smooth. :( If you are looking for a cheap & perfectly working graphic card, buy a GeForce 7600 GT. It's cheap and one of the best choices for Osx86 use. You could also consider to buy a GeForce 8800 GTX/GTS/GT if you need the best performance. :-) |
Well I have decided to get a new graphics card. Leopard works well with the one I have it is just certain apps that dont work without the qe+ci. It should be easy to install, right? Just replace and reboot? I hope so because I am tri-booting xp, vista, and leopard and hopefully this wont damage anything. I will order one and will let you guys know how it goes. Really appreciate the help. I have an idea about how I am going to do it, but if you have anything that would help me do this as smoothly as possible I would definitely take it into consideration.

DLing 10.5.2 RC2 now. Hope it works... It's only bad that X11 isn't included in the system, I'm using Crossover. Have to extract it from the old DVD.
Some problems with disk images: Has anyone the problem when he's mounting an .dmg image with the type 'CD/DVD' or older CDs that there are a lot of disks mounted, fe. diskXs0 disXs1 diskXs2... up to diskXs6 and so on. Sometimes it's problematic to eject disk images, you have to eject them from Disk Utility, not from the desktop. Sometimes they are still listed in the drives sidebar, even if they were already ejected. While I'm just talking about disk images: Try to use them more often, they're great. If you want to archive files you also have to decrunch them always. Using a compressed .dmg you have much easier access to the data. Create with Disk Utility an empty .dmg in the size you need, add about 10-20 MB more. Always select 'No partition table'. There are two types: the normal .dmg which is so big as you selected, or the .sparseimage which only needs so much space on you harddisk as it's using. Put your files into the .dmg, change the Volume name and convert it with Disk Utility to a compressed dmg. If you select compressed (bzip2) it saves a lot of space, more than zip archives. But they're also great for burning Mac CDs/DVDs: Create with disk Utility an empty .dmg or .sparseimage as above. Now copy files, folders or compressed dmg's to this disk. Now you can give it special disk icons, change the background color or use a picture (for each directory), the icons could be in different size as normal and so on. Looks great, much better as a simple Data DVD burnt with Toast. To create icons you need only the prog FastIcns and the usual Preview program, even 512x512 px Leopard icons. If you have a lot of pics or movies on a DVD, maybe switch off the 'Preview' function, otherwise it could take long if it displays all thumbnails. After this you can burn the disk, also with Disk Utility. I attached some self-made disc icons, only uing FastIcns and Leopard's Preview. |
i am a little confused... The above comment was not for me, right?
|
yeah i don't think that was for you
|
@puttabong, i had cover flow when i was using the ati x200 integrated card..:)
@naquuada, i also use crossover on 10.5.2 RC2 but i don't need x11 |
Hey guys I can get the geforce 7600 gt or the geforce 7900gt. I know the 7600 works but is the 7900 just as compatible, because I would rather get that one. What do you guys think?

@ DoiX:
the X200M is working now? Full CI/QE or only software emulated CI? |
you can't get qe-ci in the x200 you will have to get a different card
|
lol :) naquuada, i had cover flow in finder not itunes :) and no i didn't have qe/ci, i managed to get ci: accelerated using a combination of kext (slice callisto and others) but it wasn't stable.. btw i have the x200 card not the x200m(mobile)
@bhast2, i have a 8600 GT card now |
I guess either one. The 7900gt should be slightly better so I will get that one. I will just use the NVinject. Thanks guys.
|
I finally got my card installed and did nvinject! qe+ci is now supported! Although my other apps work but garageband still forces me to restart. any ideas? Thanks for your help, I am now running an almost perfect leopard!

well i got a cracked version of macdrive and it let me move the patches over. I will try the fix and see if it boots again. thanks for your help. i will let you know what happens.
|
hey guys I am trying to boot with -s but it just loads some mach kernels and reboots again. It will not even let me type anything else. This is what I am trying to do:
for patches boot with -s and mount -uw / cd /patches ./replace.sh ./patcher cpuid.txt Einstein over here did the time machine update!!! Just when I had got it to work!! |
Looks like you replaced the kernel. you could change that and the system kext back to the ones from the dvd, by booting up with the dvd
