I will start off with my computer specs. Its a upgraded acer Travelmate 2450 notebook.
CPU: Intel Core Duo T2450 RAM: 1.5gb DDR2 Chipset/video card: ATI Xpress 200m Hard Drive: Hitachi 60GB 5400rpm Ultra-ATA/100 DVD Drive: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K16RS ATA Device External DVD Drive: LG External Super Multi DVD Rewriter Chipset: ATI RS400/RC400/RC410 Southbridge: ATI SB400 I got a kext for my chipset so that the dvd will boot and I can install Leopard. I used Kalyway 10.5.2. The instalation stalls at 27 min remaining so i let it run overnight and it finished (I think). When i boot up however the apple screen shows and the little wheel spins but then a no smaking sign comes up (exept without the cigaret) and it frezes. How do i get leopard to boot up? Please help. Also when formating the hd i used Mac OS Extended and i left all the options of default when installing. Thanks!!! Also when adding the kext, all i did was use TransMac and located the extensions folder (system/library/Extensions) and pasted it in there. Is this the way to do it? |
Sounds to me like it can't find your HD. Try booting with -v and see if you get the "still waiting for root device" error.
|
Yes I do. How do I fix this!!!
|
did you use the folder that came with the kalyway's release to install the kext file
|
no, should i have? Does this cause the problem?
|
yes did you remake the extensions.mkext file after you add your kext to the extensions folder of the iso
here is what you do if you are in leopard (have to be in leopard or tiger) move the whole kalway folder to the desktop in the folder there should be the iso file, the folder where you add the kext with the command file put your kext file that you want to add into the folder with the command file open up terminal type sudo -s (put in your password) drop the .command file into terminal and it does it all for you than burn the iso with disk utility |
Dam i Have to download it again since i messed up the iso :(
I will try that!! And to add the kext files do you have to be in OS X to run the .command?? |
Alternatively you can try and do it manually in Windows with either Transmac or MacDrive. Place the kext in /System/Library/Extensions/ then delete Extensions.mkext in System/Library/
Reboot into OS X using the -v -f flags. Try this before messing with the ISO, especially since you already have OS X installed |
Neither -v or -f worked so i made some changes and am reinstalling. The install process stalled at 27 min remaning like before and now it has stalled again at about a min remaning. It has been at this for about an hour. Is this normal?? Also i formated the hd as Mac OS Extended (Case-sensative)(journaled) is this the right one to choose??
|
you type both -v -f
|
O well to late now I am reinstalling it already. But, The install process stalled at 27 min remaning like before and now it has stalled again at about a min remaning. It has been at this for about an hour. Is this normal?? Also i formated the hd as Mac OS Extended (Case-sensative)(journaled) is this the right one to choose??
|
that is fine
but for the one min stall look at this http://osx86.wikidot.com/known-issues#toc0 |
When I am installing what are the best options to choose. (e.g. Patches, Drivers ect.)
|
that depends on your system you have intel
so i don't know because i am running it on an amd system |
Stil wont boot, I need some help. Do I need to install another kext or something?
Also when i type -v -f this comes up: IOPCCardBridge: :CheckBridgeBusIDs invalid sub/cardbus/pci setting of 0x0 RTL8139: :FixEnetFlow control - Flow Control is disabled Still waiting for root device |
EnchantedPlague, whats your current status, still waiting for root or have you moved past that.. still waiting for root would indicate something isnt right with the sb400 kext you added did you repair permissions on the dvd before install. whats your setup hd wise?. do you dual boot? do you have xp,vista with macdrive?.

This is the kext i installed.
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=13413&pid=86053&mode=threaded& start=#entry86053 I used transmac 8.1 to locate the extensions folder and i copied the kext into there. Then i deleted the extension.mkext in system/library Transmac did not ask to save the new disk or anything so i just quit and burned the DVD (I know the kext is on there since i went back on to the iso with transmac and it was still there). Then i booted, formated the hd (its a laptop so there is only one, no other operating system) and installed using the default settings. I am getting really fusterated and am thinkin of just installing XP Media Center onto my comp if there is nothing that will solve my problem. Help, anyone??? |
