Ok so I downloaded VMware Fusion and was able to install Xp Pro without a problem but I would rather have Vista well I tried installing Vista but everytime I am about 1/4 the way done installing Vista I get the Your computer must restart problem, where I have to power down my computer. How is it I can install Xp Pro and not Vista? Any suggestions?

patch vmware with marvins amd utility, theres quite a few cpuid's to be patched.. I had trouble with vista x64, but vista x86 worked fine

So should I choose Patch all cpuid's using cpuid file?

mrburns05 04-20-2008 09:38 AM

yes, but you must first run "creat patcher package, and run it on the hdd that you installed to

64 bit wont work without a host operating system thats 64 bit and until they hack a kernel for us it wont be.

That's not really true, I'm able to use Ubuntu 64 bits without any problems.

Yeah, I use VMWare to boot my XP x64 partition (Recognized as a Boot Camp Partition) some times.

still having the same issue after I patched the file. I keep getting the "your computer needs to restart.... grey screen." I thought that only popped up when there was an issue with a network adapter. Any suggestions??

try parallels :)

xx66stangxx 04-20-2008 11:55 PM

I tried that but I get "Parallels cannot be installed on this computer make sure your system meets the requirements"

modify the info.plist file

Code:

<key>TestObject</key>
<string>GenuineIntel</string>

Just change this to look like this:

Code:

<key>TestObject</key>
<string>AuthenticAMD</string>

sweet that was a lot easier than another option I was trying. Hopefully this will work. Should I still patch Parallels before trying to install Vista Ultimate?

DoiX 04-21-2008 12:20 AM

depends on your system :) on mine it worked without using marvin's utility

xx66stangxx 04-21-2008 12:24 AM

ok thanks for your help DoiX I am attempting to install Vista right now hopefully this works without me getting the "your computer must restart error" hah
